  1. Thanks to all for your helpful comments. The top speed I am getting appears correct for the 4:11 gearing. So, it is what is is and that is OK. When I restored the truck I kept it original except for front disc brakes, seat belts and turn signals.
  2. The tires are LT215/85R16. I have not measured the diameter but Tire Rack shows the diameter to be 30.7 inches. All suspension and drive components have either been replaced or rebuilt including front wheel disc brakes. Not having driven any other truck of this vintage, I was just curious as to what is the normal top speed that these wonderful old trucks can reach. I never put it on the highway. I drive it around 35-40 mph on the streets and asphalt rural roads.
  3. I got new curved glass about five years ago for my Pilot House. Contact Carson Hobson at Street Rod Glass 1-888-876-1116 in Riverside, CA. Carson told me today that they still have it.
  4. I have a 49 B1B with a 4-speed transmission and a 4:11 rear end. On level ground it tops out around 45 to 50 mph. For those of you in the know, is this max speed about right? The truck is restored and well tuned. Thanks for your input.
  5. Thanks guys for all the nice compliments. And, it IS done, all I need to do now is drive and enjoy it!
  6. Attached are additional photos that did not attach to my original post. As you will notice, the windshield wipers are not on because I do not yet have correct blades for the original arms.
  7. My 49 B1B frame off restoration is now complete after a three and one-half year process. Everything was rebuilt, replaced or refurbished. I installed Charlie Aker's disc brakes on the front but other than that I tried to keep the truck as close to original as possible although the red paint is not the original "red" color and "DODGE" on the tailgate was painted black rather than the original white. The bed kit came from Horkey's, John Nida provided the interior, used Steele rubber pieces except wing vent rubber was from Robert's, Juliano's lap belts, Kepich exhaust system, and window glass from Street Rod Glass. I have no association with any of these vendors but I thought some of you may be interested in my sources. I have done very short drives up my street to make sure all is sorted before taking it out on the streets. Attached are some photos of before and after.
  8. When I turn the original ignition switch in my 49 B1B to the full on position it does not sent current to the coil and consequently will not start. However, if I turn the ignition switch counter clockwise just a fraction the switch will make current contact sending it to the coil. My test light goes on and off when I repeat the process. All wiring is new and connections are good so I know the problem is within the switch. What is likely the internal problem with the switch and can it be opened and repaired?
  9. I am getting near the completion of the frame off restoration of my 49 B1B. I am ready to install the under dash wiring harness and dash instruments, cowl vent opening arm, and electric windshield wiper motor with actuating arms. In the installation of these items is there a preferred order of installation that will help to make the installations easier or does it matter? For example, I would hate to first install the cowl vent part and find out I should have installed something else first. Your tips on installation will certainly be appreciated.
  10. My truck is missing the panel light switch and I found one locally at a wrecking yard yesterday in a 49. Are these switches operated by push and pull or by turning? This one did neither so I did not get it. If I know how it is suppose to operate I will get it and try to make it work. I understand the head lights need to be on before the panel lights will work. Thanks for your help.
  11. Thanks Keven and Hank. I will use nylon washers against the paint.
  12. I have a fresh painted grille to mount to the fenders of my 49 B1B. All four grille bars and the Dodge emblem have been straightened and polished. Can these be fairly easily attached to the grille after it has been mounted to the fenders and X braces? I am concerned about scratching the grille bars if I attach them beforehand. Thanks!
  13. Was the original factory glass for the 1949 B1B clear only or was there a tint option? I like a tinted glass but I prefer to replace the glass in my restored truck with what is correct for the period. Thanks!
  14. Thanks Brian, that is what I wanted to see. From your photos it appears that the spring is placed on the inside of the brake band between the brake band bracket and the left or driver's side of the mounting arm. The bolt is then inserted into the brake band bracket passing thru the spring and into the mounting arm, correct?
  15. The vehicle is a 1949 B1B with a 4-speed transmission. The emergency brake has been relined and the band assembly pieces on the passengers side have been put back together. That little spring, screw and safety wire that goes on the driver's side of the band assembly is what I would like to see a photo of if anybody has one they could post.
