  1. Yes , not me , but a prior owner . He turned the square shaft a quarter turn and drilled another hole . Of course by now you know that it should be a last resort . It doesn't seem to have weakened it too much .
  2. The little bit of foam that I dissolved in gasoline just instantly turned to liquid . I guess you would need to turn in the left over liquid at the hazardous waste dump .
  3. I noticed that styrofoam also dissolves quickly in gasoline .
  4. I read the copy from the local library .
  5. What renewal dues ?
  6. I used bicycle inner tubes for a few years . In 2012 I bought a pair of chain covers from Roberts Motor Parts at $10 / pair . Their part number was T157 at that time . I like the Roberts chain covers much better than the inner tubes .
  7. If you don't already have a flat piece of steel to make a plate , I made a plate from a electrical box cover plate from the hardware store, it was about 4 inch square to start with . Heavy material and cheap .
  8. John , I can't tell if your photo shows a duct made of sheet steel or the cardboard material . If you can't find one you might have to patch up the one you have . Others have patched up the cardboard with fiberglass and matting , then painting with good results . Sheet metal ... welding .
  9. Will a C - clamp help to hold the parts together while you start the bolts ?
  10. Got it ! Thanks guys . I first tested the brake light switch and it was working OK . Doug mentioned the horn relay and I had been working with replacing the horns and some horn wires . The horns were disconnected at the time of the problem but the horn relay wasn't . I had accidentally energized the low amp side of the relay permanently when working on the horns and the relay was drawing the battery down when parked . Now I don't show any electrical flow between a battery terminal and its disconnected cable clamp , as it should be when everything is off .
  11. Something drained my battery . I notice that when I disconnect my recharged battery at the terminal that a small spark appears . Am I correct in thinking that when I put a test light between the battery terminal and the battery terminal clamp , that the test light will light , and that when I disconnect the offending connection , when I find it , the test light will go out ? I will first try disconnecting my ignition switch (2 wires) as it feels a bit sluggish .
  12. There is a long screw on the back that you remove . After the screw is out , grab the chrome bezel and pull it straight out . The lens , reflector with the bulb should then pull straight out too . The screw holds everything . Perhaps rust is making things tight .
  13. Vintage Power Wagons recommends submerging the oil pump in motor oil and spinning the shaft until no bubbles show , prior to starting the engine .
  14. The 6 volt flashers came in HD too . I am using one in my truck . A very old NOS item . I also had troubles with the imports and no trouble with the old American made one .
  15. Jeff and Desotodav , I installed arm rests that look just like those in Desotodav's post . I got them from the boneyard from an early 50's mopar car . As I only had sheet metal to mount them to in my 1941 truck , I bought an inexpensive thread inserting tool from Harbor Freight . The thread inserts were for 1/4 inch coarse thread bolts and made from aluminum . They have been working fine . The tool set comes with various sizes of inserts , 1/4 inch diameter bolt hole was the largest .
  16. What hasn't been said is that the truck 3 speed boxes were synchronized starting in 1941 . ( second and third gear ) . I recommend finding a truck 3 speed synchronized transmission to make things easier .
  17. Vintage Power Wagons has been selling the cone shaped locking nuts . They sell the studs too .
  18. Some of the heaters have nuts on the fire wall under the hood holding the heater in place .
  19. A six point socket will sometimes grab where a 12 point will slip .
  20. The battle is over ... you won . The before and after photos are stunning .
  21. You can put the old spring back on and try it , if you still have it .
  22. When I needed a new castle nut for a 1939 axle I just went to the local hardware store and bought one . It was a common thread .
  23. You will also find that some of the studs/bolts go into the water jacket so a sealer is needed . I used the thick anti-seize compound .
  24. Your four cone shaped nuts and washers go on the outer ends of your exhaust manifold and the taper of the nuts into the cone shaped washer acts as a lock washer . No other lock washers are used on the manifolds . You can buy these special nuts and washers from Vintage Power Wagons . You won't be able to get a torque wrench on most of these fasteners and have to do it by feel . I have also seen the cone shaped washers and special nuts on ebay . I think there is one bolt that is hidden in the middle and comes out from down below .
