capt den Posted September 30, 2021 Report Posted September 30, 2021 i want to do a vacuum test but the only vac. source is the line from the dist. to the carb. is this enough of a source to get accurate results? my problem is there is obvious black/carbon smoke in the exhaust, poor idle when warmed up, and bad gas mileage.seems to run good otherwise. there is a plug on the intake manifold but i am afraid to try and remove for fear of breaking the metal around the plug when turning it out. i think it is for the power brakes which are not hooked up at this time. capt den Quote
Sniper Posted September 30, 2021 Report Posted September 30, 2021 Well, I believe the line from the carb to the distributor is ported vacuum, at least I believe so on my 51. If it is, that is not what you want. When I did my vacuum testing I removed that plug in the intake you mentioned. 1 Quote
Doug&Deb Posted September 30, 2021 Report Posted September 30, 2021 The plug on the intake manifold is what you need. Try soaking it with a good penetrating oil before removing it. Quote
knuckleharley Posted September 30, 2021 Report Posted September 30, 2021 You might also try warming the engine up to normal temps before trying to back it out. Quote
Kilgore47 Posted October 1, 2021 Report Posted October 1, 2021 I use the connection for the vacuum windshield wiper motor on the P15. Pull the hose off and attach the vacuum gauge. Quote

greg g Posted October 1, 2021 Report Posted October 1, 2021 There should be a taped and plugged hole in the intake manifold. Intake vacuum is what you want to check. 1 Quote

The rat-a-tat seems to loosen things much better that lots of even torque. 5 minutes ago, capt den said: i will try some penetrating oil and heat to remove that plug. thanks Quote

That'll sometimes break it loose Quote
