  2. my jeweler had a guy that could work on small parts. they can solder tiny stuff and work with snall parts. worth a try. capt den
  3. synthetic oil just burned thru my engine a little faster than the old conventional oil. the manual for my car [54 windsor] calls for oil changes at 5000 miles. i do it more often. the old filter is a mess to change and the filters have gotten costly. chrysler did not even put a drain plug on the cannister. why the heck not? i use 10w 30. capt den
  4. if new to these cars remember the left side lug bolts are left hand threads. good not to let a tire shop try to remove them as they do not know this and will cause damage. good luck with the car. capt den
  5. when i had mine done i think .060 was the limit. i had mine milled only .010 as i just wanted to have a flat surface. i have also taken heads off and put them back on with no milling.just check for a good flat surface. capt den

  8. my 54 windsor is 4.5x5 for the rim. i have a 51 plymouth rim for my spare and it fits. also, the 235/75 tires will rub on the tie rod ends on the front. i had to use 225x15 to avoid that. capt den
  9. dorman makes a core plug that you put on with a wrench and a socket. part # 568-010. they are about $5 each at any parts store. you may have to order them, or look online. they are supposed to be temporary, but mine have been in my 265 block about 8 years. easy to install with the engine in the car.
  10. i know tis is an old post, but i have done business with them. i recommend them. good people, fair prices. they actually call you back. capt den

  13. i have settled for the blind spot mirrors. tried others, like the swan necks but could never get one to be useful. i have spots on my 06 chevy truck, and on my wifes honda.they do the job and make driving safer. dennis

  17. Bob, measurements are good for my car.i need to know where to get one.you can email me at captdennis29@gmail.com, or just post here, or i can call you. i got a shroud from french lake auto parts [just as an aside they are great people to deal with.]. thanks dennis
  18. Bob, i think we talked about the 6 blade fan. is it 2 inches or less deep? the fan on my 265 is very close to the rad. is it no more than 18 1/2 inches from tip to tip? it may fit my engine.let me know if these measurements will work for me. dennis
  19. Keith used to make the tool you see on bernbaums site. he sold his for 100 but that may have include shipping . not sure about that. however, i bought one and it makes a big difference in how the brakes work when the job is done. to me, worth every penny. dennis
  20. thanks for the clarification. i have put grease in the plug on the diff, so i think those bearings are fine. have not pulled the front wheels yet, waiting till after the weekend. it is mothers day AND the wifes birthday.
  21. soth says there are grease fittings for the inner bearings on the diff. never saw those on my 54 windsor. i have packed grease into the outer ones by hand. hope i am not missing something. i thought the inner bearings were lubed by the oil in the diff. capt den
  22. i should have time this week to look at this. thanks for the advice. capt den
  23. i recently asked a stupid cooling question and got a smart answer that helped with the problem so, here goes. within the last 2 months i have been hearing a noise which as it gets louder it sounds like a whining/grinding noise but kind of smooth and not extremely loud. wierd thing is it goes away when i step on the brakes. i am thinking bearings. i recently did the front brakes and greased the bearings there. i could replace them as that is an easy place to start. the rear is full of oil, no leaks. i have pushed grease into the holes on the axle, but not sure if they are not the problem anyway. maybe someone here is familiar with this noise/problem. i think replacing the rear bearings is beyond my skill set, but i am usually willing to learn new things. i will start with the front bearings as i want to at least check if everything is tightened up as they should be. why would the noise go away when the brakes are applied? the answer to that may well be the answer to the problem. i am afraid to drive the car now. i have no other shaking or vibration issues. thanks for any advice. capt den
  24. remember chubby checker? do what he does and it will come out. capt den
  25. i like going to car shows as a participant. 25$ is an amount most would spend to buy something for our cars that we don't even need [fuzzy dice, fancy valve stems,,do not touch signs, and many more]. by the way, i have all those things that i do not really need. guess i need them. anyway, i enjoy sharing stories and info with the people who come to the show. i have an old yellow convertible nicknamed spongebob. i have collected just about every spongebob stuffed animal character and i display them around my car. the kids love it all. at yard sales/flea markets/thrift stores i collect every spongebob toy i can find if they are cheap enough, and i give them away to the kids that come by.the smiles from the kids and the thank yous from the parents are worth paying to be able to sit there and do that. car shows afford you an opportunity to interact with other car people, share stories and get advice and info you can't find elsewhere. people love to talk about " the car they once had" or the one their parents or grandfather had.we get to educate people about old cars or to learn something from them. i agree with some of the negatives about some shows, so you have to pick ones that you like.i have never been to a show you cannot leave when you want to. if that was the rule i would not go unless it was important to me to be there. the last show i went to cost $20 to enter and i got back way more than that in goody bag stuff.last week i went to a car display at a local auto repair shop, free t shirt, mugs, othe trivia, food, and a $20 gift card to walmart. like anything else in life, you see what you want to see and you hear what you want to hear. dig! by the way, i am still looking for a Mrs Puff figure. capt den
