And my swap meet finds. NOS P15 parking light lenses and a very nice 39-40 Plymouth truck hood ornament. Does have the back mounting ear broken off but I think that can be dealt with. Also got a 46-54 commercial color chip chart.

I seem to remember mine Merle's and Tod's trucks being the only ones at the BBQ

No I didn't hear any banjos and I did hear a report from someone that people were actually riding around on those tractor seats in the "box".

That's my Dad on the step and from the left Todd, Merle, Michelle (Merle's g/f), and Jeremiah (ram man 02 he has the blue truck in the group shots)

Do you recall what was going on with the corner windows on the truck. I'm guessing duct tape. I haven't seen anyone successfully cut those down yet.

They were filled in with the same metal the bed was made out of.

Looks like it's sitting on a 4 x 4 chassis too. I guess you can see almost any style build at the show. Any you really didn't like?

Yah the corners were corrugate steel.

not likes?  Well, the WAS that semi.....:P  the one just discussed could go away IMO.  Found the blue one from Mopars in the Park, I still don't like what he did/how he did it but seems a nice enough guy and was surprised he won at Mopars.  Beyond that, not many crap rods that I can like...just ask Todd!  Some really nice ones tho, which way outweighed the bad!

Merle mentioned the highlight of his trip, mine was watching Jeremiah start his truck with an original hand crank.  Not that he needed to but just because he could.  Very cool.

That would have been awesome sad I missed it!

So, now that I'm home and have my computer to type on, instead of just posting from my phone, I can tell "the rest of the story"...

On my way up to Michelle's house on Wednesday evening I had an encounter with a deer. She walked across the road well ahead of me, but stopped at the shoulder on the other side of the road and turned to look at me. I was slowing down, but as I got near she turned and dashed back across in front of me. I was hard on the brakes but just when she disappeared in front of the truck I heard and felt the thump. I then pulled onto the shoulder, stopped, and got out to inspect the damage. The deer was nowhere to be seen, although I didn't go searching for it.

As for the truck damage... Well, you have seen pictures of my truck. Did you see any damage? It's one tough truck. There are a couple of small dents on 2 of the grill bars, and the upper one scratched the paint on the front panel when it flexed under impact. Other than that the bumper may, or may not, be slightly closer to the front panel. I have no previous measurements to compare it to.

And to make the trip even more memorable my voltage regulator crapped out. It began going shortly into the trip. I would need slightly more RPM to get the circuit breaker contacts to close. Then all would be good. By Friday it was up to 1500 RPM needed, Saturday afternoon it needed over 2000. By the time I got back to Appleton on Sunday it would take over 3000 to get the regulator to kick in and charge. On the way home from Appleton today I only had generator output for about half of the trip. Time for another new voltage regulator. This one was new last fall.

'Tis true. I witnessed it for myself.

Merle;

I am sure you are not too happy about the damage........but it is another chapter in the history of your truck. Heck I purposely left dents and dings like that in mine before it was painted. No big deal. In fact I think they look much better with a few here and there. Shows you use it.....and that it can take a lickin'. It is after all a truck....and not a cream puff.

Jeff

ps....that wasn't the regulator I gave you was it?

you came out better than I did and the deer did somewhat the very same thing that happened to you...crossed in front and I saw her early and had slowed way down...she make it over...and as I am about to go past..blamo she is bounding back across the road..well almost...I watched with horror as her fat arse rolled into my headlight as my bumper takes her out at the back knees...headlight assembly shot, front fender shot...rest faired pretty well...still was 1300.00....I have yet to fix it..have new lights, fender and paint here on hand..just to blasted hot and nasty for body work..

Trying to start a dodge truck with a hand crank doesn't cut it!

I could barely pull it up to 12-O'clock!

I need a step ladder too.....

Not likely, Bob. Those pictures were taken after the truck was cleaned a couple of times for the show. Those are 'driving home' bugs.

Just curious how high that bumper is to the top of it.  I have no clue how tall you are but assuming the wall girts are 24" OC. it appears the bumper is much taller than my 2.5 ton semi.
