Am using original set of Chrysler wire wheels removed from a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker back in the 1970s.  I am running BF Goodrich branded

radials purchased from Coker Tire.     ********Oops......in looking thru earlier posts I saw that I had posted similar pictures ....oh well.....I still

use the wheels and still like them.  I also have a set of 15 inch original style wheels with wide whites on them.......plus the original 16 inch rims that came

on the car, with a set of black sidewall radials sitting around to use on them.  They need to be cleaned up and painted first.  Then there is the set of 15 inch

painted Chrysler wire wheels which also need to be cleaned up and repainted, plus need new center caps.  Always something in the garage on which to spend

time and money.

Painted factory wire wheels.....got them on a 54 Plymouth Savoy fourdoor purchased in a neighboring town.

Sold the car with a different set of rims on it.  Am thinking yellow to match the car.

Original 'Triple Ripple' Hollywood Flipper caps by National.
It took me years to find these. When they arrived they were in their original carton, wrapped in 1950 dated newspaper.

Bump to this old thread.   Does anyone have any new pix to add?

 

I'm looking at wheels/tires for Elvis right now.  We're leaning toward some kind of open 5 spoke pattern (Cragar S/S knockoffs with conventional conical lug nuts).  If anyone is running anything like that, I'd love to see pix.

 

I've convinced the owner that 1) some cooling air over the brakes, especially the front discs would be a good thing, and 2) People who invest that much money and time behind the wheels (I'm doing a custom front disc conversion with 302mm rotors) usually like to show off those nifty brakes.

 

Right now we're looking at 15x6 for the front with 215/70R15 tires, and 15x7 at the rear with 255/60R15 tires.  Those sizes will definitely be RWL tires, although I may do some wide whitewall treatment to the black side of the tire.

When I got her, in her current state of being in my adjustable ventilation workspace. Stock Wheels and hubcaps with BF Goodrich 4ply Polly White walls.

Actually, your pix were a big help.  They confirm that 255/xxR15 tires fit and look decent back there. That's a helpful data point for me.

I am currently running P255/50R17's in 2008ish Mopar steel rims, think Charger or Challenger.  In the rear.

 

The standard mopar 15" rims like those that were on my 87 Diplomat are pretty much what I ran for the test fit.  RockAuto used to sell them new, but I don't see them anymore.

Here's a question: did Mopar paint the rims only one color, or did they paint them to match the color of the car? My DeSoto rims got squirted all over with the body color, when the P.O. did a sketchy dust-in, so I don't know what's going on underneath. The guy with the paint gun even managed to get it on the tires themselves.

I’m kinda partial to the rims being the body colour of my old Mopars. I’m pretty certain that’s how they came from the factory.
