ruff1148kr Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Well Spring is here and despite the Lack of a garage and the off/ on rain I have been able to get a few things mocked up at least, on my project truck. It's not going to be alot of members cup of tea but I decided to do a Indian Motorcycle tribute shop truck out of my 48. Since it was just a shell of a truck to start with that my girl brought me for building her D100 Utiline that she takes to car shows. I thought I build something a little different. OR at least try (no Mechanical talent) the Plan is 360/727 with windor shifter under dash and a Indian gas pump tank in the bed, AC, PS, Mustang II front end with Cherokee rear. Well I might have bit off more than I can chew but slow and steady will get it done some day. Quote
Robert Thornton Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Very creative nice work love gages and tail lights. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Looks like you're moving along quite well. Keep going. It should look pretty cool when done. Quote
RodFru2u Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Wow that's going to be a Great truck when you get it on the road. Good luck with it Quote
gramps1951 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 looks like you have a great deal of talent too me. looks like a great deal of thoughts gone into it too. neil Quote
ruff1148kr Posted April 23, 2014 Author Report Posted April 23, 2014 Thanks guys kinda expected to get blasted for all the crazy changes, but the truck was a real basket case with not a lot of original parts to work with so it was not like I ruined a great original. Have some different idea's for a few things and borrowed a few great idea from members on how to make the drive train work. The Black box is a slide out under seat tool box like they did in the late 30's. The front fenders already had hole for turn lights so they will get the Indian lights also only shaved down to sit flat on fender tops. The rubber flooring was inlayed with rubber Indian motorcycle bar mats. All I need to do is start saving my pennies for a Old Indian Bike to haul around in the bed LOL 1 Quote
pflaming Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Those gauges on that 'flat black' dash really make that dash. Absolutely fantastic. Keep going, no argument here. I love creativity! Quote
Merle Coggins Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 I really like your theme idea and I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. (Especially if you can find an 'original' Indian to haul around in the back) Nothing against the new ones, but... Merle Quote
ruff1148kr Posted April 23, 2014 Author Report Posted April 23, 2014 The paint on the dash is just rust reformer I put on after I sanded it down to repair a large rust area. But someone else said they liked the flat black look with white face gauges. I guess I will put it on the list of possible interior colors it would also make the seat frame blend better with the seat Quote
Drifter99 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Sweet good job my buddy just sold a 48 Indian he bought out of the Steve McQeen collection over 20 years ago it's in a museum now but would have look good in your truck. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 I like the idea of a theme truck. Couldn't be much better than an Indian theme either. Have fun with it and hope to see an old Indian in it some day. One of these days I am going to load my 49 AJS 500cc off roader in mine and head out to the desert. Jeff Quote

Jeff I like the idea of a theme truck too. Jeff, I'll be right behind you in my green truck hoping for a chance to be instructed and an opportunity to drive the AJS. Maybe in two years. Hank Quote
ruff1148kr Posted April 23, 2014 Author Report Posted April 23, 2014 Thanks I've seen a hundred Harley pickups over the years at car shows and not one Indian and not even a hell of a lot of Dodges so I thought I'd take a run at it. Some year when its finished can't wait to take it to a large Bike week called Mountain Fest here in WV and just put in the parking lot with all the old bikes 1 Quote
1952B3b23 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Don't worry about "getting blasted' for being different, its your truck so have fun with it and do what you want. In my opinion keeping everything original is boring the factory already built it one way. Why not make it your own and stand out from the crowd. I think you are doing one heck of a job and it looks great, cant wait to see more progress. I also think the Indian motorcycle theme is a great idea. -Chris Quote
ruff1148kr Posted April 23, 2014 Author Report Posted April 23, 2014 Thanks Chris, Hank , Jeff, Drifter99, ggdad1951, Merle, Pflaming, gramps1951, RodFru2u You have no Idea how great it feels to have any encouragement from others that you might be on the right track. Sometimes I start to doubt the idea and loose my motivation to face the weather or let the aches and pains get to me. You've got me recharged and out working today. Thanks. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 as stated, it's YOUR truck, while some may disagree, I think EVERYONE appreciates your desire to work on your truck and the work you put into it! I can't wait to see how it finishes out! 1 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 You are off to a good start. And as you can see we are on your side. I think the tough part is going to be finding the Indian. Best of luck on that.....they are a special part of our motoring history and are priced accordingly. Jeff Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 get a nice little Suzuki Savage and scratch out the Suzuki and scrawl in crayon the Indian label..pretty much what they doing in today's repop world..actually a good little mini bike would be just as useable.. Quote
Todd B Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Cool little details, I love the fringes on the seat and the cab roof lights. We put the same gage and speedo units in DC Pete and they fit perfectly in the existing brass rings. I was watching American Picker and they dug a 1917 Indian frame out of a ladies back yard, all rusted to pieces and gave her $3,000 plus paid $1,000 to have her lawn repaired. The originals are very cool. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 There is a company here in the Cities that specializes in Indian parts...might have a line on any for sale... Kiwi Indian Motorcycle Parts 5301 Edina Industrial Blvd Minneapolis, MN 55439 (952) 657-5245 Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 my favorite is Kramer's personalized license plate episode...that plus the note left on his windshield had me rocking with laughter.. 1 Quote
Dave72dt Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Lots of different styles of trucks here ranging from originals to full blown customs so yours fits right in. Some of your mods are similar to my own. As far as the Indian in the back, the only time it should be there is when you bought it. After that it should be ridden. My opinion only. Others may vary. I won't fault you either way. Quote
