Looks like a good time was had by all. Sorry that I had to decline the invite. . . I spent Saturday discovering things that needed to be attended to on the under carriage of my '33 before we depart Tuesday morning. I'll try to keep that weekend free next year.

Marty I went back to the picture site and couldn't find a single picture of your award winning Flathead. Your car but not the engine. Care to share one or two.

Anyway congrats on the awards, sure looks like everyone had a good time.

If you go to the link listed below, there's a couple on the front page, specifically 7407 and 7408.

Marty

Post edit;  just saw the photos that Don posted; one change since then is that the head has been polished since then, so the engine compartment gleams!  It's also gotten new bumpers and a few other things since those were taken.

BBQ Pictures are posted:    http://www.flickr.com/photos/clementsbbq/

There's a lot of them.  Guess better too many than too few.

Merle the green one is a 41 plymouth. I wanna know about the multi color looking one. Sounds like Marshall owns it. Is he a member here? If so whats his screen name?

How 'bout that... I totally missed that. I even talked with Jerry briefly, but I guess I was so busy checking out all of the other trucks I didn't get a chance to look closely at that one. My appologies. Now that I think back on the day, there are a few things that I wish I had done. Oh well, maybe next time.

Well, the totals are in...

Round trip air fare Milwaukee (MKE) - Sacramento (SMF) = $556.60

2 days of car rental = $70.11

Gas for the rental car = $25.87

3 days of parking at the MKE parking garage = $36.00

Spending a day at the Clements BBQ = $$$ PRICELESS $$$ B)

There are some things money can't buy... For everything else there's MasterCard Visa. :P

So the trip cost was $688.58, or as I like to think of it, $0.40 per minute of fun. :D

I'll say it again... for everyone who hasn't been to this event, you MUST make it a high priority item. Even if you have to fly out there for it, it is still well worth the effort. I'd do it again in a second. It may not become an annual pilgrimage for me, but I do plan on doing it again someday... with my truck.

And the beat goes on! Miles 360; driving time 7 hours; fuel investment: 101.00, lunch on the return home $8.00; pain and suffering two days later, just bareable but the memories "SWEET". Will do again next year, make it a 2-dayer, and bring my wife.

Time for some more Aleve, some black coffee, and a good basketball game tonight. In respect for Merle, I'll be routing for the wolverines.

Don't do that for me, I'm a Badger fan. Although they are representing the Big 10, so I suppose it's OK.

LOL... I agree it would be a HARD pill to swallow. Good thing they don't use those helmets in basketball too. :D

Amtrak come anywhere close? I don't fly, know too many people who work for Boeing... And the 49 won't be anywhere near ready for a cross country run next year (will be lucky if it is back in one piece by then)...

Looks like a great get together, wish I could have attended.

The Amtrak ride from Denver to Sacramento is a spectacular ride up a DEEP canyon in Rockies and tunnels through the Sierra Madres. You make it to Sac and I will pick you up or find someone who will.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the BBQ.  It was my 1st time and I really enjoyed the experience.  I will definitely be back.

Also, I want to say how much I enjoyed meeting everyone who attended and to put a face with a computer name was great.

I want to put a big "THANK YOU" out to Tim and all his helpers for all the planning, awards and work they did.  Tim I really enjoyed meeting you, talking and visiting with you.

I think the Sierra Madre is in Mexico, though there might be more than one mountain range with that name.

The Amtrak route from the east to Sacramento through the Sierra Nevada (Spanish for snowy mountain range) mostly follows the original 1860's transcontinental railroad built by the Central Pacific and now owned by the Union Pacific. The original tunnels and line across Donner Summit have been bypassed by a longer tunnel but I think much of the rest of the line follows fairly close to the original line.

The last of the travelers have left for home this morning.
Makes me sad.

But I have to say, this BBQ was an impressive display of people of the
highest quality! Gary and Lavonne Martin showed up on a Wednesday to
drop off the 48 Panel, allowing me time to snoop around the masterpiece to
better understand my rust bucket. And on the day of the event, they
brought extra food for everyone and a Giants championship banner for my
20 y/o baseball fanatic of son Zac. Incredible....

Thursday Kev showed up in his camper and helped with the raising of the
banner for the show. I love the new "gateway" banner...it turned out way
better than I could have hoped. Thank goodness Kev was there to get that
thing up in the air. He's like a brother, challenging every thing I did, and
getting some big laughs out of me in the process!

Bud and Cher were not far behind with their trailer, setting up right next to
Kev. What a great couple of campers! Bud is a kind man, and I hated to see
his trailer pull away at the end of it all. He's the perfect neighbor, a true
gentlemen with a wonderful wife.  And like Merle said.... a few good BS
sessions around the fire pit with the crew, awesome. I was fortunate enough
to have a few days with all of these people and have made some good
friends because of it.

Speaking of Merle. He showed up on Friday afternoon and dazzled me with
his Wisconsin accent and his knowledge of country living. Being raised on a
dairy farm, Merle had similar experiences like mine, having come from a
beef cattle background. Merle is the real deal, a good guy and hero in my
book for making the trip like he did. He fit in perfect, helping me get the
deal together and getting Paul down the road. I want him out here every
year!

Jim Shepard is a regular fixture in my life and always jumps in with a
helping hand. What can you say about a guy who is right there for you.
Bob Koch is the same kind of friend, but has been missing due to his
pursuit of happiness.....thank goodness for the BBQ , I get to see him then!
The kind words from all the people who show up, my family, the growing
friendships......I will do this for as long as I can, because it is so worth it!

And as I would say to my friend Tom in Hollister, I would say to all....

I love you too man!

The second time out to the tailgate BBQ was the best one yet! Sure was good meeting new folks and checking out trucks and cars I hadn't seen before.

It's unavoidable to get so busy gabbin' wth folks that there's not enough time to thoroughly look over every vehicle!

Thank you Tim for being such a great host, and glad we were able to do some parts tradin' too! Hope to swing by through your area again soon (before next spring).

And ... Once again I had a great time driving those back roads. Our trucks were made for them!

To Tim and the hole gang

Both Christiane and my self had the best time of all the events we have attended. Were still talking about it at 12:39 AM Tuesday morning. Tim and your crew were amazing. As soon as I walked up the drive way, I was greeted and I new this was the place to be. For us being outsiders with our stock 34s (HA HA!!) We couldn't believe how great that each person was at this function. Tim, You know the story about Christiane losing here husband 2 years ago from a stroke. They built Dodge City Vintage in Jamestown Ca. I have not seen here have a good time from all the functions that we attended. I asked her how it was different. It was the people being genuine. Ages from 18 to 94. We got home in Sonora about 11:00 Sat night, couldn't get her to leave the camp fire. She especially loved the bird show. She loves animals. We got up early Sunday morning to go out to the pastor to pick out a truck to redo for the next event. It's not a pilot house truck, what we pick is a 1946 Dodge dry box truck that was used to deliver cookies in this area. Next year, were planning on being there for a couple of days. Were going to try and bring a truck load of Mopars. Thanks again for the good times. Dave and Christiane 2013
