  1. No difference with the 727 and 518. However, the A500 (904) does not work with an EarlyHemi because the starter position was moved about ½" higher and it collides with the block. With a TF package, you will have a block adapter and a crank flange adapter and a hand full of bolts. The flexplate is the 'other' part that may cause some issues since the current B&M 10231 only has the 'smaller' 10" bolt circle for the converter so you have to verify what the converter has. Most late stuff is the smaller BC.
  2. If what you want is simply a 5th gear then look at Robert Horne's swap. Perhaps there is a similar gearbox in your boneyard that could be used in similar fashion and not involve alot of shipping costs.
  3. ...we tend to be a patient group.......
  4. ...how about pipe wrap tape ? https://www.homedepot.com/p/2-in-x-50-ft-20-Mil-Pipe-Wrap-Tape-53550/100179778 and use lotss of talcum powder.
  5. Yup, plenty of differing displacements as well as the 23" vs the 25" lengths. Add a little confusion with a couple of the same displacements in both... This is a reasonably complete listing: http://www.t137.com/registry/help/otherengines/otherengines.php If you choose to install a 25" engine in your car you will need to talk with Don Coatney.
  6. Play with this online calculator and see what you get.... http://ctny.audiworld.com/mark/s4/gears/gear_calc.html
  7. How did you get the car to its current location? Did it roll on all four w/o issue? Any noise? I know that these gear sets can and do suffer breakage and will lock-up the rear... Curious to hear of what you find.
  8. Looking Good! Glad to see that you extended the engine mount across the top of the frame. While you're in the vicinity you might also move the shock mount.
  9. The little 23" 201-208-218 Plymouth flywheel is the problem, not the bellhousing. The Ply crankshaft is different from the 230.
  10. All of the pre-62 v-8, Hemi, Poly, and 'A' series, are a direct swap in terms of the transmission/bellhousing. Rebuild parts are available but a bit expensive.
  11. The 341 is an excellent engine!!! Heavy? not so much. I just finished a 330 rebuild and on the scale it was right at 600lbs (w/alt, no exhaust, carbs, fluids). There are plenty of finished swaps and the Dak ifs works well. Here is a DeSoto swap with the Dak in a PilotHouse, may, or may not, be helpful: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/52-dodge-b3b-hemi-project.742584/
  12. ...old car + bandaid.....sounds about right... The general procedure is outlined in a service manual.
  13. ...so the soil has a 'high iron content'...? You might think about renting a metal detector some weekend when your bored.
  14. Should be similar. I have a 315, complete with PF, maybe I should hang it on the scale. And at 600lbs, probably similar to the 230, not sure.
  15. I just finished a 330 rebuild for a customer and weighed it for shipping. Fastenal, $175 to SFO, for those interested.
  16. Agreed; Charlie is one of the good guys. He, like alot of us, are getting 'less-young' and want to focus on other things.
  17. IMHO, a 53 ¾t would be a poor choice to drag a 5th wheel of any size. The 53 is not a heavy as a newer ¾ and any side wind would push you all over the road...assuming that you could stay on the road.... Depending on the trailer, even some of the small 5th wheel units will have 2,000lbs or more in the bed and gross weight above 8k.........
  18. I agree that a v-8 would make Mr. Douglas' sedan a better road car, but I doubt he is interested.... Any of the late 5-6-8 speed automatics will entail some major R&D for an adapter as well as the computer to make them work. They are becoming horribly overburdened by technology. That said, you might also look at the Mopar units from the 5.7 and such.
  19. The various vendors have differing parts included in their 'kits'. You might be able to get a 'near-complete' package from them but it would likely be cheaper to get the 'extras' from rockauto or ? store. Vendors include AAJ, RustyHope, Scarebird, ECI and probably a dozen more these days......
  20. ....there is a reason that there are several vendors making 'kits' to put disc on the early cars....
  21. Considering the costs to rebuild the stock system you might want to reconsider the disc and save some long-term money.
  22. Perhaps an option to what dodger says, rather than to copy someone's truck, is just to shop around and buy a finished (or 90%) project.....
  23. Restore? Or, hot-rod? Restore says all original to me. As for swapping, IMHO, the simple answer would be none. Nothing easy about swapping a v8, of any brand, into a 52 truck. Yes there is enough space if properly positioned but that is just the start of a very long process. You will also need a newer rear axle, a complete change to 12 volts, a new (er) radiator, and the list goes on.......... Read through this thread for some insite:
  24. I'll suggest that using housing width or wheel track numbers will not be as efficient as using the WMS numbers: wheel mounting surface. Axles projection from the housing will certainly vary between various makes/models and the wheel track is determined by the wheel. If your housing is 56¾ flange to flange (noted above) you can guess that each side adds 2" for the WMS. Best bet is to measure the WMS. Here are some additional axle widths to consider: http://www.qualityengineeredcomponents.com/?page_id=1023
  25. Just a short re-cap... •The Dodge 241, the Plymouth 260 (259 for some folks) and the Dodge 270 are all essentially the same block but they do have different cores for the cylinders. You simply cannot bore out a 241 and get to a 270, and getting to 260 is not going to yield a useable block. Core shift is a very big problem in all of the EarlyHemi engines. •You will also find, that if dealing with the Poly head engines, you have some stubby little ¼ ø pushrods and the head is not drilled for anything larger to pass through. We have successfully converted the poly rocker to adjusters (needed for reground cams) then shortened and heat treated the solid pushrods. It is likely possible to drill through the head for a 5/16 tube to pass be we havent tried it. •The little Dodges did not come to market with harmonic dampeners. •LA distributors are a direct fit to the blocks. •The 270 has the 'short nose' cam.
