Try sitting in the front center position like a third pass. in front. How much higher do you sit? These old springs get weak with years use, the wires that tie the coils together break, etc. They can be replaced, many on here trade srings out with ones from the center to the drivers position and tie them all together where they touch together with wire or hog rings (avail. at any decent upholstery shop) and replace the padding on top of the springs. Make a world of differance! Best to ya, Doug

Paul, Would you take a drive to Modesto and drive my 50 4dr.? 230 stock only slight cleaning up arround the valve pockets with an OD and 3.9 gears. Easy cruise at 65+mph. I believe the drive may you rethink this new plan? A newer slyle AC compressor only uses about 4-5 hp to run. Not a killer when driving, maybe a touch slower on take off. Past posts have documented AC on our flatties. The Furd 302 is basically a reliable motor. Buy a carb intake and carb., Distributor etc.= $800 + exhaust shorty manifolds(still probaby need mod. to clear steering) $300+, build motor mounts, trans mounts,recess fire wall, on and on. $$$$$ I know you plan to live much longer,But? If you decide to do it, I know this forum will support you all the way, with ideas, tips, encouragement! My 2 cent. Best to ya, Doug

I've coated two 50 Ply. tanks that have floating pickups with a filter(screen?) and no matter how many times I rotated the tank and when almost dry by watching and blowing air thru the fuel outlet, placed upside down and rotsted upright again and shaking tank just before 100% dry, both got almost totally plugged and would only drip fuel out after reinstalling the dryed almost full tank! I ended up blowing air in until the tank appeared about to burst and then a loud POP! Then the fuel finally came out in a reasonable amount. Did I clear out the screen? Blow it off? Get the floating pickup loose? I don't know! At least it now works. How many tank reliner Co.'s know about the pickup/screen to even do what I tried and still did not work? Good to know some real craftsmen still out there! Someone who's finished product they care about and their reputation. Getting very very hard to find here in Ca. My local Napa still puts up with their PITA old car parts customer. Now that the car is mostly completed they all still reconize me and are nice to the old fart! The best for help is an older woman who hands down knows with a brief discription what i'm looking for and gets it often without looking at her computer! I say good on her! As for the big box home repair places, I always go first to a local Ace or true value to get some help if needed from someone who actually has a clue even if it will cost more! Doug

All this info I find somewhat strange and interesting, but I've only looked on Ebay for 49 and 50 Ply. parts the past 10 years. All new NOS, old replacement and used taillights were plastic. The original front turn signals were also plastic. I have 1/12 sets saved for? Pretty cloudy and checked! 99.9 % of advertised replacements non-NOS were glass for the turn signals. A very few were advertised as plastic replacements, then a few I believe found out that they may be NOS plastic and boy the prices went way up. Were plastic replacements made aftermarket by someone for a time? Seems the plastic could be either NOS or aftermarket. Still not what was advertised, I'd certainly contact the seller about the Discription. Expect what was advertised! Doug

Quick look at their website, bendpak.com shows many models with specs, videos of oper., faqs, phone # for other q's. Check it out. No experience with that type but their have a top rep. Doug

The window 37 Ply. crank handle folds over and down and appears just round when folded. The two round metal parts just below and slightly spread and two slide out ashtrays, too cool! Looks just like my 37 Bus. cpe from many years ago. Sure wish I had it now. The steer wheel I can't say. What was on it when I bought it and was replaced with the best one I could find at a wrecking yard that had quite a few old dodges and ply.s years ago. All were cruched about 1974, new owner.

Paul, I was surprized that Ebay had tutorials on their site for mig welders, pro/con on sizes-features. I was googling mig welders and instructions, etc and it was one of many, then on the ebay site also many. For mig welding on new to old sheet metal I strong recommend Mig with a gas bottle and a unit with separate temp. and wire speeds controls. Here in Ca, you can rent bottles with the gas. Or buy one time and do Owner bottle type exchange of bottles, no waiting a week or more to fill Your bottle. Once set up with a supplier just take the empty in and pick up a full one and just pay for the gas in it. I have a 125 bottle. We are not resticted as to the owner sizes. Actually I wish that I bought a smaller bottle 12 years ago as it's very heavy even though it's in a cart with the welder and I only need to fill it about once per year. Sometimes a little more often when doing a lot of sheet metal replacement! You have too much welding to do to get "thrifty" on this purchase. Buy a good one and you will find welding so much easier and less time with a grinder! One place to compare prices: eastwood.com Others Miller/lincoln and Hobart on the lower side. Get to it! Doug

If you were closer and paid for the metal I'd be happy to help! My friend already has 3 projects in line that I'll try to learn on and he works and pays for them! But he's got many other distractions it's slow. Doug

Paul, experience, training with experienced people, Expensive tools are required to do the larger pieces as shown, Nothing against the posts at all. We can all learn somehting from all of them. Don't stop your posts, keep trying and learning, It helps keep the brain young! Even with some cheaper tools and Some experience, I have to make parts in Pieces and the weld together and grind, grind, grind the welds., but I do eventually get er' done. Friend bought a Harbor Freight english roller and a good 4 foot box brake, But now I don't have project to try them on! I want to learn how to make bigger parts too, but !! Doug

Condenser change with the 12v. changeover? Won't think so, but thought I'd throw out the question. Doug

Ok, forget the tools, but spare fuel pump,maybe a generator and regulator, etc. So that when you use the card the car can be towed to a repair shop and they could fix it promply and back on your way. Reminds me of my dad's cousin who worked for years at Cape Canavral (spelled wrong I know!). His house was where in his yards poision snakes came arround, He always carried snake bite medication with him- even when he traveled.Old Grandad?? just in case! Always changed oil in his vechicles at 1000k. Not him but a shop, never forgot his medication for the wait. Never drove faster than 55mph on his 45 mile daily trip to the Cape. Said forks on the commute where always friendly as they stacked up behind him. Lots of hand waves! Doug

A couple of old throw couch pillows (if none, your wife won't mind if you borrow them off the couch ) for your head, a magnetically held light, feet over the back cushion of the front seat and a tool person to get the tools you forgot to get within reach. Best of luck, its like a stretching exercize and prep for an space voyage! Too much blood to my Head!! Doug.
