Tim, Many points brought up. I do not know if i can respond to all in one post, but yes in my 50 Suburban I did install with Fatman's stub. Power R&P (my choice over manuel) both BOLT on. Your choice. Front A arms? Use stock or all the way up to $$ polished stainless. Many choices, maybe too many! Again your wallet. Steering, require some U-joints to hook up. How does your stubs steering hook up? A u-joint, rag-joints? Rad. mounts built into sub.frame to mount rad. in stock position on the Fatman stub plus the stock bumper mount hole are predrilled in the stub. Bumpers fit stock location. I made a choice to fab a replacement gravel pan and fiberglass front bumper to make a look simular to 49 Ply. bumper as 49 bumpers where going for $350+ at the time (7-8 years ago) I changed front sheet metal and grille to 49 parts, I like the look more. As for the install, just using the stock front suspension before removing it, mark the center lines on the spindles on the floor plus rad. mount centeron on the holes on the floor and match the holes with the holes for same with the Fatman stub which slides Into the stock frame on three sides tightly after cutting off some of the stock frame. Measurements given in the instructions. The fourth side is split at the bend edges and folded inward. Drilling plug weld holes on all four sides and after checking all measurements and center lines, tack welded. Fatman also supplys several fish plates to make sure it is strong as stock or more. Where marks match, weld up. No need for any boxing, frames aleady 4 sided, Fatman stub is not, but with the center crossmember to strenghten I saw and see no need. Running 500+ HP? Maybe then. I have no problems with other stubs used when properly, safely installed as does the Fatman stub require, particularly if one with the correct track width and especially if it can be bought cheaply. I have never done a take off stub replacement job, but have have seen many ugly, poorly done by others! Includes my best friends son (now his) 57 Chev. truck with a Camaro Stub. Front sheet metal barely mounted as are the front bumper. Done before his kid bought the truck. Said to drive well by the kid, but plan to do a cafefull check with my friend who plans to finish the truck to sell. Needs to be at least safely done. If a stub from a donor and reasonably priced as Tim found ,that fits and you have Tim's drive, experience to go on your own I have no problems and tottaly endorse and support you! Go to it! Best to ya all, Doug

Tim, Fatman stub frames are now over $1000 plus shipping. Price of steel, labor went way up?? Still, ease of install vs. cut off pieces of frames of other cars/trucks does help. Rad. mounts, bumper brackets-stock fit, etc. on Fatmans are easier if more expensive for sure! How fat is your wallet and talent to do alterations? To each their own. As long as done cleanly And Safely! Do what you can do and complete. Merry Christmas to all. Stay Warm. Doug

I believe that's at diif. type of seal that was also used-later? Diffinately cheaper and seems radily avail. lots of places. Goggle the brand and #, lots on places for sale, but did not see anything on a quick look at the Rock price memtioned, did not look at Rock per se but def. avail. cheaper if that's what your motor uses. depends on engine year I guess. Best, Doug

Obviously pics not taken with Pauls camera! Or does it only work in the dark? Good on ya Paul! Merry Christmas! Doug

Bought a real seal from Berbaums a couple a years ago, and told during call to Andy to cut to fit. I tried. Did not like it! Bought an replacement from Egge. Cost 2 x plus but fit perfect. Too hard to redo in car! Recheck their price online today. NOW their price $63 plus shipping!! Crazy! Googled the part # jv134-9 Found the place mentioned before in previous post: HDengineparts.com same part # for $23, Shipping? did not check. Buy the proper fitting part, do not cut to fit! This year does not use a rope seal, but a neopreme seal made to fit without changes althought two diff. type main seal caps for the edges were used and usually? both came in the real main seal gasket set. By looking a your sealing edges at the main cap it will be pretty obvious which seal is required. Instructions on install had pics to show which, also! Best to ya, Merry Christmas, Doug

I like em, but boy the price hike on Ebvay since I last looked about a year ago! Was about $300 tops for most, even a NOS adjustable. Now +++++ price wise, but with some looking $40 and up. Make your own mounts?? Find a 3 piece as most all were then adjustable as to the width of the car and fit Most cars! Mounts? Modifiy to fit. And brands? Fulton seems to be The #1 brand ou there but there werre others, who really cares, as long as it has some patina!! Maybe contact the fellow with the old junkyard in the hills for a 3 piece visor with a patina complete for reasonable $$, the one you bought the Vert. from ? Perfect Patina! Keep at it Paul. Doug

Quite a selection of odd tools to take to a U-Pull. A Miller brake adjusting/drum measure tool ($400+ Ebay prices) plus a few others! Doug

Check shipping for less than 125 lbs. prices with somewhat smaller dimentions. I shipped a OD trans from Ca. to NC. for $125 1 1/2 yr ago on Fed. Ex.Ground. Took some pushing to get my local Fed Store to take it without having to go Fed. Ex. trucking, instead of reg. Fed Ex. but it did fit within the co,'s weight limit and dimentions for reg. ground at $125 v.s. about $350+ for truck. After you check, if so, lighten up that overkill shipping box! While it for sure is heavy duty and big but it puts you into a diff. class on shipping! Best, Doug

If Paul Accidently backed up his car over the camera he's been using and let his family know about it, maybe Santa will get him a new one, would not miss his pics in the mean time! Doug -

According to my interchange manuel the door shells themselves do Not have same #'s in this book so probably not. However the parts of same may interchage as this book does not cover the bolt on pieces. Someone with both parts manuels will have to advise on that. Good luck, Doug

How did you keep the garage from being RED also?? Years ago I painted my 37 Ply. bus. cpe. in the garage and Everything had a coat of overspray on it including my mothers washer and dryer, she was NOT happy! Fortunately it was lacquer paint and was just a dry dust! Spent a full day cleaning, washing up my mess. We were temporarily rented this house also. You better be the nicest, law abiding driver on the road with that color! Great paint work, going to be a real standout sooon! Doug

So here is MY brake story....scratching my head.
DJ194950 replied to Bmartin's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Sorry a mistype. Meant to say plus 60 thousants= + 0.0060. So 10.0 =Stock inside dia measurement , a max of 60 th. oversize = 10.0060 at measured accross the inside dia. of the drum after turning to clean up the surface. A proper inside micrometer in required to measure this. A brake shop can measure yours and make a determination before turning if they can be done within the limit. You find your drums measure for example + 20 thous.,+ 30 on another, third may be +40 for example. Not a problem. Especially if a local shop can grind the arch of the shoes to match the drums (best way to go if you can find a shop to do this), adjust shoes to fit drums per instructions with tools. Just need to keep shoes matched to the drums together. Was not suggesting Berbaums. Just one place to get a price on the parts and easy to look. Shopping is yours to do , I always look around. Best, Doug -

Just checking brake part prices on one site- Andy Berbaum (oldmoparts.com), New wheel cyls. $65 x4 New MC $185 x1 New shoes $65 per axle X2 New rubber hoses $19 x 3 $632 plus shipping Thats all new, if your MC and wheel cyls can be rebuilt by you you can probably save over $300 off that price. If your brake drums are 10" stock, most people will say +.060 oversize after a turning. Any brake shop can check for you. The adjustment tool is the biggest help to get them adjusted, but others have made their own versions, a search on same will get some ideas. There used to be someone on this forum that would rent you one with a deposit. There also used to be a tech article on brake adjustments, start positions on adjusters, tec, but I could not locate it tonight. I'm sure someone on the forum can still show you where to find it! Most suggest on a total brake update to do new steel lines at the same time, up to you and your abilities or wallet! Good luck and enjoy the new car! Doug -
Like it overall, But those wheels, tire and wheel color combo SU__! Just a opinion. Doug

Very intrigued about how you made the reverse curve in that front bumper and the chrome is still pretty intact. Please share! Thanks, Doug

I just used a bathroom scale first set to my weight to match the dr.'s office scale and added 10lb. to make sure I was covered when shipped. Came within a buck or two after cheaking shipping online prices. I use my motor hoist a lot to lift heavy pieces and neighbors , friends to help get them further than the hoist will do. Couldn't get some things done without help, I thank them daily for the help I recieve! Doug
