  1. I don’t post much but I use this forum as a weekly reference on the journey to improve my 52 Cranbrook over the last 8 years. Just wanted to let everyone know how helpful the information here has been as I have done the following repairs 1) total tune up 2) carb rebuild 3) wiring the lights 4) installing new temp gauge 5) timing the car 6) making new plug wires 7) cold valve adjustment ?replace shocks 9) replace gas tank drain gasket 10) replace u-joint dust cover 11) replace coil 12) replace battery 13) list goes on… I started this journey with no knowledge of car repair and thanks to this group as well as some YouTube videos and the old repair manual have been able to do this myself. Thank you all!

  3. Is there an explanation offered for this phenomenon? Premium gas causing dirty oil and carbon on plugs?

  6. The voting is almost over, and it looks like I only took 8th place. I feel I would have done better if I had time for an elaborate paint job. Personally, I like this more than any bike I have ever ridden. I improved the shifter spring, removing the extra clamp on the handlebar. Also I raised the headlights one inch, and mounted the Tokyo bell. Except for a tail light, I think it’s finished for now.

  7. Today's job is to give the Plymouth a once over to make sure we are good to go after a fantastic weekend at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival and Vintage Race weekend. Our Daisy had no issues on the Glenora run, a 60 mile tour of the Finger Lakes wine country, or its two laps around the old Watkins Glen street circuit. Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend.

  8. If you are going to be running stock rims and tires then the track width change really isn't an issue. Plenty of room. But if you are going to run P255/50R17's in the front it really matters. I've detailed the issues on my Rusty Hope swap, not to ding on them but rather to give you the understanding of what the issues are are NOT addressed on the website or the instructions. No personal experience with Scare Bird though, but looking at the design I like that it does NOT change the steering arm to spindle mount. It does require some machining to the stock drum hub, not really an issue for a competent machine shop, I'd suggest converting to wheel studs at the same time though.

  11. We will be international this year. I have it on good authority that Great Britain will be well represented at this year's Picnic USA. One from England, 2 from Ireland and a couple of Canadians. Be glad to welcome our commonwealth friends. Hopefully our common languages will not be a problem...

  12. "Hardtop" would be the name for that body type when and where I grew up with in the 1960s. I don't recall seeing a Plymouth hardtop from the early 1950s though.

  14. Indeed. When it comes to the car’s various systems “Rebuilt” has many definitions. “Rebuilt engine” might be the biggest mis-leading statement of all.

  16. That striped broadcloth looks just like my 48 DeSoto upholstery. But it looks brand new! How can that be as they don't make that style anymore?
