Little older than the car..and the car is a tad more modern than the average car here..since this picture I have added a few more more detailing items. I have a couple yet on hand to install. This model does grow on you..I was not fond of the solid one piece windshield or the unibody rear fenders but have come to admire the overall lines this car has plus the fact it is outfitted with the majority of the trim pieces from the factory, two door and an automatic with the larger engine..adds up to a unique little car..

Whats a muffler man? Heres a better shot of the viking

Muffler Man (or Muffler Men) is a term used to describe large molded fiberglass sculptures that are placed as advertising icons, roadside attractions or for decorative purposes, predominantly in the United States. Standing approximately 20 feet tall, the first figure was a Paul Bunyan character designed to hold his axe.[1] Derivatives of that figure were widely used to hold full-sized car mufflers, tires, or other items promoting various roadside businesses. International Fiberglass of Venice, California constructed most Muffler Men.

Your post got me curious so I googled and found out the history of that big statue. Somewhere else in that same general area of MN is a giant Paul Bunyan and Babe.

Big Ole - Viking Statue

icon_fieldreview110.gif

Alexandria, Minnesota

Symbol of Minnesota Viking pride, Big Ole was built in early 1965 as a second-year addition to the 1964-65 New York Word's Fair (Fiberglass sculptor Gordon Schumaker also built the Smokey Bear in International Falls and the big Bluegill in Orr). In December, after the Fair closed, Big Ole was trucked to Alexandria, where he was erected on a traffic island on the north end of Broadway. He was an impressive sight, visible for many blocks down the wide boulevard, and at 28 feet tall he towered over most of the buildings in town.

Big Ole's conquest of Alexandria, however, was far from easy. In 1967 the town dressed him for the holidays in a Santa suit -- into which someone shot a flaming arrow that sent Ole up in flames! His sword was snapped off by another vandal, he was knocked cockeyed by a freak windstorm, and once, when he was lying prone for repairs, he was partially crushed under the collapse of a snow-covered roof. Through it all, however, Alexandria rallied to their Viking lord, footing the bills for his patch-ups and repaintings and celebrating his return every time.

In 2002, Alexandria moved Big Ole north a couple of blocks, and essentially out of town, to a small park on the south shore of Lake Agnes. His shield still boldly proclaims "Birthplace of America," but Big Ole has been given a less stressful spot for his middle age.

Hello Mr. RiffRaff. Welcome to the forum. Nice coupe you have there.

I notice that the rear fender openings are larger than the average P15.

Are the fenders perhaps from a 1942 Plymouth? Just curious.

What part of the country are you from?

Thanks for the kind words. I too love the patina the paint and body has...wish I could leave at is but our province won't allow me to register it for collector plates unless the paint look...in there words..."Decent".:(

The front end was one of the things that attracted me to the Desoto. I just love that big toothy grill!

Please post some pics of the new 48 when it arrives.

Never heard of that in Ontario

I too like the patina on your car and would hate to lose it.

Rented a vehicle for a commercial once and they painted it up as a "hippie mobile" flower power and all. The paint was temporary but looked great. It washed off easily and that was that.

Maybe it would work for you.

keep the patina!

If I do a temporary paint job just to take the pics and send them in to get the plates I could run into problems down the road. Here in BC we have a provincial run Insurance corp, ICBC, and if you were ever in an accident adn they checked the photos to your actual car and they did not match...well no insurance for you!!:(
