Nose interchangeability

I did a search, and found only one reference to this. I have a '48 1/2 ton that I've been collecting parts for. I recently came across a real nice '50 Fargo 1/2 ton that's complete and in much better shape then mine. The only problem is the nose on the Fargo is beyond repair. Would the two be interchangeable? The one topic I found with the search says that they are from 48 through to 50, but I figured I'd better ask to be sure.

I believe the 48-50's are interchangable among those years, the 51-53's used different hoods and the noses had a different setup for the radiators on top.

A 50's Ford doghouse might work also! LOL 

Not even close on this one.  None of the body lines would match and the mount points are all different.

Or their Ford 8" rear diff. or non power Mustang bucket seats or tilt steering column, power rack and pinion steering.  Function before brand names.  So far, all the other brand parts have been getting along just fine.

I have seen a few of these nose interchanges done in the past.  While out and about scouring the area around an Illinois town I was temporary assigned I came across a shop that seemingly was the area go-to for this.  A few vehicles sat around the shop in various states of nose massage.  The most notable and cleanest looking transplant was that of a Dodge Charger nose stuck onto the body of a AMC Gremlin...the vehicle was trimmed out in a nice orange color..tried my best to score a Bricklin from one of those scouring trip..three visit over a course of couple months but I could not sway the owner to sell.  One of the cars you will always wonder what happened to it over the course of time.  Only vehicle I scored on this trip and easily transported back to my home was a Honda 250 Elsinore that I affectionately named Thumper..

Whoa!!! let's be careful....some of us quite enjoy their Ford rims and power leather seats ;)

I've had too many junk Fords to justify to myself using their stuff (Chevys and Nissans too, there's a reason I've stuck with MoPars as long as I have!).

I don't pledge allegiance to any one brand.   Near as I can tell, all the brands have service departments, all sell parts and all stay equally busy.  I've had a few other Mopars and can't say I've fell in love with any of them.  If it wasn't for the five window cab on my pickup, I probably wouldn't have bought it.  The minivan we had went through 3 transmissions and had uncomfortable seats and poor legroom on the passenger side front, the convertible my wife uses is worse as far as comfort and ease of me getting in and out and the pickup we had for a service vehicle back when I was in the implement business I badly wanted to take a sledge hammer to the carb on it,, couldn't because the boss WAS a diehard Mopar fan.

 

Back to the op 's question, you can swap B1 and B2 doghouse with a B3 but you have to swap all of it and I believe a B4 will swap as well, still need all if it.  Grille whiskers on the B3 and B4 as well as park light housings are often well bruised and/or rotted and good ones are somewhat difficult to find.

"Stuck" is sometimes the operative word....there have been many great and bad creations out of all auto companies...Ill use whatever ones from whomever that can solve or fix a problem, or make things better. Too each their own, but I'll get out of a jam with a Ford part any day of the week, then to let pride be my judge

When you park a '50 Chevy, Ford, and Dodge side by side and look at them from the front, you will see bars for grills and two head lights. Gosh, seems one is like the other, so whats the big deal?

Before you cook up another suggested swap like this you might want to consider this. Most human faces share similar components.... right? But if you were to put your nose on a beautiful girl's face it would make a mess of it. Call it a recipe for disaster if you will. :lol:

Well, I sure got something going here.....

In regards to the nose, thanks for the compatibility info! as it turns out, the company I work for just laid off 330 workers (all hourly employees, though all the staff get to stay....) including me, until at least Jan. 3rd, so this truck will unfortunately go to the next lucky guy to find it

I've been through one layoff and beat feet as soon as one was announced at another job.  I worked two years at a plant in north central Missouri that drove the local economy.  It has been for sale for over 16 years with no takers.  Local economy was already in decline with numerous unoccupied houses.  New corporate CEO made some drastic changes in the company (outsourcing entire departments, selling divisions, and relocating corporate headquarters to Chicago) and this plant is slated to let go of most of their employees by June of next year, and close completely in 2018.  According to posted city council minutes, code violations for house abandonment, and no upkeep have already quadrupled from a year ago.  It will be "interesting" to make a brief visit in a few years and see just how much is left of the town vs. what it was like when we left in 2012.  I'm gonna guess that the only retail businesses left will be the Cenex and the Subway, and an economy driven largely by Medicare.

if you can, give it a year before you bail out on the project all together. you never know, this could be a door opening and in a year from now you could be back at it :)

I'll be keeping my '48, even if I sell it, I wouldn't get enough to make any difference. The town I live in is also mainly kept afloat by the mine that shut down, there are a few other mines within a decent distance, but if they close as well, the town will die quickly.
