Went to the Pomona swapmeet last Sunday. As usual there was nothing much there for an old Dodge truck. In fact as far as parts and goodies go nothing specific. My buddy was actually blown away by the lack of literally anything Mopar truck. And we took our time and walked the entire event. Now any of you who have been to this swapmeet knows that you could easily build a couple of hundred vintage Chevy trucks from the parts laying about. And that was true again......that stuff was everywhere along with an equal amount of trucks for sale too. Heck even the literature booths leave most of their Mopar manuals back at the shop......

And then we came across the one forlorn Pilothouse at the event. I wasn't sure whether to cry or laugh.....but thought I would share this with the rest of you.

I love the heat gauge setup. Looks like someone rode it hard and stabled it wet! But hey, he has it licensed and it hasn't been crushed,

$8000.00 for that POS? :eek:

I woke up to see that idiots price on a real beater... I'm going back to bed!

Every time I go there I come home with more woodworking hand tools. Haven't gotten a truck part yet.

Before I had my truck running, and Tim was working on a frame section for me, I saw a '52 1-ton there for sale. It was $8000 also.

Yep, every time I go, I end up coming home with tools. Try finding parts for a '38 Plymouth Coupe.....maybe a lug bolt that will fit, or some engine parts, but not much early (30's/40's) Mopar.

Sorry Bob.......but it was under the title "the sad state of things here".

While we were there looking at it a potential buyer offered him $3900.

It was relisted in C/L this week at 8k so I have to assume he turned that down. :huh:

IMO he would be doing better than great to get that much.

But surely that is the beauty of owning a Dodge and not a Ford/Chevy! :D

Who would want to restore a car/truck when the first time you took it out for a drive you saw ten others just like it. :(

Geekay;

I need to put this into perspective. The Pomona Swapmeet is the largest event of it's kind in the western US and less than an hours drive from the Greater Los Angeles area. It is huge market place with literally thousand of parts booths and around 2500 cars & trucks for sale. So to see nothing in the way of parts is a bit disheartening. And to see one old beater priced the way it was is the height of absurdity.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing a few more of these trucks out on the road. In fact it wouldn't bother me a bit. They stand out (or not) on their own merit. Besides there is absolutely no chance they will ever be as common as say the GM trucks of that same period. There seems to be quite a few non runners for sale in my area. I think though that for the most part they will stay that way....non runners...for quite some time to come. I think that is because of the lack of aftermarket parts and general awareness or exposure to these models. It might also be because there is no real restoration guide either. Let's face it ....as things stand right now they are not a project for anyone that is less than fully committed.

Fully committed is right......that's what I feel like needs to happen to me...a nice rest in a rubber room with no more bodywork to do!! LOL

The owner of a local salvage yard who regularly exhibits at the Turlock, CA and Pomona swap meets told me he doubles his local prices at Turlock and doubles those prices for Pomona meet. I buy local and never pay full pay even here.

I hope you didn't catch any disease from that truck or the  bone head trying to sell it! :D

Paul;

Well if he is at Pomona? he doesn't bring any old Mopar stuff...... 'cause it just aint there.

Jeff, that's for two reasons: 1) he has very few Mopar parts and 2) they are not as profitable for him.

'Cuz they are all in Minnesota at Mark's place ... ;)

Well, I did find a 41 taillight lens about 9 years ago. I was so shocked to see anything that fit my Dodge that I could not remember which side I needed. Seller wanted  $8 dollars.

When I told him I could not remember which one was broken he said he would take $ 5. I bought it anyway, It was the wrong side. But I did not care I now had a spare. The correct one later cost me $35 plus shipping. I am still Happy!!

JD you have every reason to still be excited by that find. It must have been like the proverbal needle in the haystack. :)

And Paul you should tell your friend to bring what Mopar stuff he has.......as there are people looking for it. Does he ever go to the Long Beach meet? If not maybe he would do better there.

Not selling mopar stuff because it's not profitable  my experience is that anything off a mopar is marked up double the ford and chevy stuff. I get pissed because a few people have all the mopar stuff and sit on it and want to retire by selling one piece. their desire for profit is keeping these mopars from ever getting back on the road  just type the wood pilothouse dodge in ebay and look how the prices are triple and owned by one guy.

Jeff -

That "For Sale" sign has one "0" too many on it...or, if that is the market for a truck in that condition, you need to stop driving your $125,000 truck and sell it to one of that guy's customers :) . Very few old Dodge's come up for sale around here (SA, TX), but even those usually aren't priced as crazy as that.  BTW, Texas swap meets seldom have any Mopars of any type or age, either.  If I ever see or find anything, it is usually just the case of a" blind hog finding an acorn.".

Bobacuda;

You are right about there being one too many zeros. When we saw this my buddy said if the seller get's this amount then yours is easily worth 60K. We had a good laugh and left.

It is a good thing we have this group and a few vendors plus ebay otherwise it could take decades to put one of these trucks back on the road .I are sure glad mine was relatively straight and complete.

I have stowed more Dodge truck parts in my attic from random acquisitions than I have seen in any of the swap meets I have attended in TX...before I knew better, I would ask if a vendor had any...and they would laugh & laugh :rolleyes:

Why go to Pomona looking for Dodge parts when members here have all the parts we need, plus others on ebay.

It's a lot of hot asphalt to traverse amidst a sea of homies, gangstas (lokes and OG's), and thugs....haha!

During last time at Pomona, I left empty handed, but a "run-in" led to the eventual acquisition of my fuselage c-body (the only C-body there that time...an equal sad state of affairs). So Pomona has been good to me.
