*The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid  . It's pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.

*To carry Coca Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly Corrosive materials.

*The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Drink up! No joke. Think what coke and other soft drinks do to your teeth on a daily basis. A tooth will dissolve in a cup of coke in 24-48 hours.

1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl . . . Let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean.

4. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

5. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

6. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

7. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

8. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan;rap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

9. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, And run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

I wonder what Pepsi Does?

Beware! Urban legends, urban legends!

This list sounds highly exaggerated.  I checked with Snopes.  Coke will not dissolve a tooth in a matter of days.

And good luck loosening a rusted bolt by "(a)pplying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes."

I well remember in grade school (1950's) that a teacher placed a tooth in a glass of coke and left it on a counter for a couple of days and each day the degradation was clearly visible. I'll stick with Ginger Ale when I need some bubbly stuff.

Found this with a quick search:

AGD spokesman Kenton Ross said that RC Cola was found to be the most acidic soft drink studied, with a pH of 2.387 (the pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 for most liquids, with 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the least acidic—or most alkaline). Cherry Coke was found to be the next most acidic (pH of 2.522), and Coke was the third most acidic soda tested (pH of 2.525).

Battery acid has a pH of 1.0. Pure water at room temperature has a pH of 7.0.

As for Snopes, knowing where their funding comes from causes me to not believe anything they print.

I have not consumed a dark cola due to phosphoric content is about 13 years now..it is NOT good for the joints of the body....root beer is the only dark cola that does not contain phosphoric...most all other products get their 'bit' from citric acid..any acid is not good for the teeth...I have just about a month now been completely off all artificial sweetners...I have seen a marked improvement if joint pain relief since this...but we getting far off the subject...

Oh Oh...

Where's that?

Really?

Now this I'm interested in.

I chew a lot of gum with fake sugars in it. Xylotol, manitol, sorbitol, nutrasweet, etc.

Do all of these affect joint health?

Oh Oh...

I'd like to know where their funding comes from too, care to share? This is what they say about it:

Because snopes.com is all about rumors, it was only a matter of time before rumors began to circulate about it and its operators, such as the following:

"Snopes receives funding from an undisclosed source. The source is undisclosed because Snopes refuses to disclose that source. The Democratic Alliance, a funding channel for uber-Leftist (Marxist) Billionaires (George Soros etc.), direct funds to an "Internet Propaganda Arm" pushing these views. The Democratic Alliance has been reported to instruct Fundees to not disclose their funding source."

The snopes.com web site is (and always has been) a completely independent, self-sufficient entity wholly owned by its operators, Barbara and David Mikkelson, and funded through advertising revenues. Neither the site nor its operators has ever received monies from (or been engaged in any business or editorial relationship with), any sponsor, investor, partner, political party, religious group, business organization, government agency, or any other outside group or organization.

Barbara Mikkelson is a Canadian citizen and as such cannot vote in U.S. elections, register an affiliation with a U.S. political party, or donate to any U.S. political campaign or candidate. David Mikkelson is an American citizen whose participation in U.S. politics has never extended beyond periodically exercising his civic duty at the ballot box. As FactCheck confirmed in April 2009, David is a registered independent who has never donated to, or worked on behalf of, any political campaign or party. The Mikkelsons are wholly apolitical, vastly preferring their quiet scholarly lives in the company of their cats to any political considerations.
Fact check seems to back them up: http://www.factcheck.org/2009/04/snopescom/

actually, phosphoric acid will clean a metal panel of surface rust, leave the paint and will delay return of rust...but like any product..residue that is later lost due to dilution during rain or wash will lose its effectiveness....for the so called patina folks you will clear after the acid wash...little before and after and the after is about 30 minutes of my time...you can if you wish clean your gold in 85% phosphoric (industrial grade) and do no damage..it is a process that I put into effect at a place I worked that resulted in many dollars saved....

Being an extreme Right-Wing Conservative, or at least as the media would portray my convictions, I have heard/read about the Soros linkage from too many sources to discount it. Snopes has, on far too many occasions, been found leaning too far left to be an independent voice.

In this instance, proving a negative will be difficult.....

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programme.......

Not to go too forcefully OT, but regarding salt, I spent an idle moment comparing salt content per calorie of several brands of crackers and in many flavors.

Of all the various fancy flavors of crackers, the one with the lowest salt content was Sea Salt flavor.

The irony was unsettling.

Of course in this instance, the operative word is "flavor".....those pesky chemists can put just about any flavor you want on just about any product. Now that's unsettling.

Was not all salt at one time sea salt? Salt deposits and salt mines are found below many big bodies of water such as the great lakes and the finger lakes in New York state.

All of those lakes are fresh water.

Yup, all salt first came from the evaporation of sea water regardless of where it is now.  But then, how did it get into the water?

It's time to go to the garage and get a nice big refreshing Coke. I'm not scared.

Personally, the only active ingredient I find beneficial in Coca-Cola is when you add a healthy shot of whiskey ;)

On another "funny" note from that Great Lakes rabbit hole this thread went down, my agency had a significant project delayed for over two years because the HQ pogue taking care of their end of it actually thought the Great Lakes were salt water - couldn't find "technology that can stand up to that salt water environment" when I asked him face-to-face what the delay was.  About the time I quit laughing was when he figured out the error of his thoughts...

I think all of this Coke stuff is crap.  You can still by Coke in California so what could possibly be wrong with it.

I drink "Windsor" (good Canadian whiskey) old fashion's with Coke for the wash.  I have drank them for 30 years and other than my hearing and vision going I am perfectly fine.
