That is going to be one sweet rig. You got a good eye.

If I lived in a place where keeping one of these big ones wasn't an issue I sure would have gone for it.

DodgeB4ya"s truck is truly a beauty and paint is wonderful, however, I'm the campaigner for original patina!  Thus I have been tagged as Patina Paul (PP). I figure some one on this forum has to stand up for the truth! Can't hide anything behind OP.   ;)

I always love it when people down south have to "thaw out".....BWHAHAHAHA!   Sorry, but Mephis ain't got cold!   ;)

 

FEF's heater sure kicks the heat out up here!

 

I'm FROM the mountains in WA, winter 2010 it was -14F. Last night's low 30s was quite sufficient these days. At least the cold snap will bring on the pecan harvest. Good hard frost on the ground before midnight, will finish splitting the nut husks.

 

Now I remember why Lisa still wants me to fix BOTH 1/2 ton Dodges, the Sweptline heater will roast you out of the cab... So back to wrenching on the flatties and welding on the Swepty. Need to get "patina Paul" to come down here and make me some new rockers and graft a Ranger floor pan into one of the Dodge cabs...

It wasn't too many years ago when we had several weeks in a row when the temp didn't make zero during the "heat of the day". 30 at night here is just a nice crisp autumn evening.

It's winter, and at least in my 49, the heater is a farce.

 

I'm still trying to thaw out from last night, so cold in Memphis that the engine in my daily driver 94 Ranger needed more than 40 miles to come up to temp.

 Must be time to get a new thermostat and give it some running time before hitting the road!

It got down to 58 deg last night....actually had to put some sock on.... :huh:

Ya, it's been getting cold here too, the heater came on last night as it was set at 60 degrees!

She's home!

I am amazed how solid this truck is.  In WI our trucks are usually rusted out on the doors and fenders.  Great find.

 

I don't want to be like an old high school girlfreind that would tell me how wonderful her body was and never let me past first base.  But I have an original 5th wheel plate that would fit that truck perfectely.  I am keeping it for some day I will the lottery and find a COE semi tractor.

I have never owned anything bigger than a 2.5 ton.  I assume the fenders and the hood are longer then the small and medium trucks.

When Mark and I pulled a hood off one of these for his project I believe we measured the hood about 10" longer.

Now you have to find a trailer from the same era.  Now that will be a big find.

Piece of cake. I'm 35 miles NE of Graceland (Memphis TN). Have one in the soybean field edge that was parked during WW2 and never moved again. Once the leaves drop and the honeysuckle gets enough frost to die back I'll get some pics of it. Was an illegal cardroom during the war, has also been used as a still site by the neighborhood's late bootlegger. Would roll fine with new drums and tires. It has air brakes, the shoes and hardware look flawless. Landing gear is the old style double steel wheels on each crank down support. Single axle, wooden decking on 2 levels.

 

Think modern beer trailer, w/o roll up side doors. It has horse trailer type side openings, can't remember if the rear has doors or is solid.

 

Needs a LOT of work, but... if someone was desperate for a vintage semi trailer, the framework and upper deck are in great shape.

Here's a shot of the comparative sizes of the light, medium and heavy series Dodge trucks. The heavy duty Moly-Nickel trucks use non Mopar axles, steering gears and brakes. Not much drive train parts available.

Whats sad is the local excavating company here in Platteville just scrapped a really nice original Freuhaff trailer last year, one of the old low movers style ones! Nice looking truck btw, wish I could have myself an old tractor but dont think the WF32 (41' 1.5 ton) would really cut it!

Complete engine gasket sets are available,not sure about other engine parts???Carbs are marked 6H2  E7U2 made by Carter.

 

Thanks I was curious. I wonder if carb kits are available for those.
