2Nd International Work On Your Classic Truck Day

Recommended Posts

Changed my mind and actually worked on The Brick today. Took the dog house off, and then threw the truck on the lift. Looked around for a few parts I wanted to put in including the armrests I got from Kev.

Will post pics tomorrow....

I didn't get much time to work on my truck today as I was out trying to earn a $. I did get the dual horns back from the painter all painted in gloss black now - so I put them back together.

I have to admit that I am inspired by the 'WOYCTD'. I hope to be working on restoring my 53 Dodge 'coupe' truck for this special day next year.

When did they get the mini tubs? I wouldn't mind adding a set to my 49's bed, might help the tires clear with the Ranger rear axle slated for it...

Decided it wasn't just classic truck day. Found out the 4 white wagon wheels with P215/65R15 of the junk camper will fit both Dodges and the daily driver 94 Ranger. Will swap them out with the 14" mismatched alloys when it stops raining (need a new tire and I'm short of funds, so, 4 like new for free, on clean rims...). Worked on my 72 Super Beetle, need to charge the replacement battery out of the scrap 92 Ranger, the bug battery was run w/o caps (father in law is in his late 80s, it happens) in 2005 and then parked w/o them as well...

Found a sheet of new 18g steel in the garage, can fix my rotten door bottoms, with the never had wire in it 110V welder that was hiding in there as well. And found a spool of wire, still in plastic, in the cab of "Ancient Blue" (the 49), along with a bag of replacement tips.

And found a 6v worklight that plugs into a cigar lighter, takes a standard 7" 6v headlight. I'll take a couple pics and post them when I find the camera cord.

I assume that you are refering to the wheel well recesses shown in Jeff's bed pics? These are only on the 3/4 and 1 ton "Express" beds. They are wider, overall, than the 1/2 ton "Pickup" beds so they have the small wheel wells for tire clearance.

Scruffy;

That is a 7 1/2' long x 54" wide high side bed off my 3/4 ton as opposed to the straight side narrow bed found on most 1/2 tons. You could probably retrofit some easily enough if you can find them.......just need to notch out the boards. I know these came in 7 1/2' and 9' lengths but I do not know if they made a 6 1/2' long version.

unloading sap that my son and i collected earlier in the day. turned that into another 2 gallons of maple syrup.

i'll be repeating that process today, and it looks like more of the same for most of this week.

Cold, windy spells in NM? That sounds odd. You need to experience our cold, windy spells (like today) and yours won't seem to bad. ;)

Hey Wallyto .What would you sell a quart of that maple surup for. ? They dont have maple trees around here.. Never had the real stuff before. Noel

Ooh, you really need to try some. I now some Canadians that call that other stuff, "Telephone Pole Syrup". :D  It certainly ain't the same.

unknown. i don't sell it. i've been making, on average, 17 gallons of syrup per year for 37 years. some years it's 5 gallons, some years it's 24 gallons. family uses about 10 gallons per year. the rest is used as gifts, although i have traded some on occasion.

a good place to buy some would be from Bascom's in NH http://www.bascommaple.com/ they produce thousands of gallons of syrup per year, and they are set up to ship anywhere. i don't know what they charge, but it would be less than i would if i sold it.

Merle;

Well I think you got to try it Baja fishermans' breakfast style sometime.........Machaca & eggs with corn flapjacks and.Blue Agave syrup. Ain't no better way to start off a great day than a full belly and boat heading into the sunrise over the Sea of Cortez.

Although I'm not familiar with Machaca or Blue Agave syrup, I have no doubts that it would be an enjoyable breakfast. I enjoy many fruit based syrups such as blueberry, huckleberry, strawberry, rasberry, etc. Telephone Pole syrup referes to the maple flavored corn syrup commonly marketed to the masses.

I remember collecting the sap every spring. During my teen years that was my morning chore during the sap running period. Dad and I would tap the trees, then I would go out every morning to collect it and bring it back to the house. Then Mom would work on boiling it down, and bottling it up, throughout the day. It was a laborsome task, carrying buckets full of sap through the woods to where I could park the tractor and wagon, dump the pails and go back for more... But it got me out of milking cows in the morning for a couple of weeks. :D  And I think it tasted even better after that too. ;)

spent the day(international work on your classic truck day) doing exactly that.

Cleaning 60 years of oil and dirt off the fluid drive to find its not just round.

Removing the signal lights attached to the roof some time in the 60's.

Installing a new master cylender and starting on brake lines. long road ahead
