MarcDeSoto
I am getting ready to start my 48 DeSoto bus. coupe engine. I need a 6 volt battery and was wondering what is a good vendor for these. I was thinking of trying to get an original size and type of battery. Any ideas? Thanks. moose
I picked up a group 2 at my local NAPA. Just around $100 if I remember right.
Scruffy49
Most any good tractor shop should have them. My truck takes the same battery as a Ford 8N/9N tractor. Aircooled VW 6V battery is about the same as well. I used to buy mine at Les Schwab tires when I lived on the west coast. Here in TN I can get them at any auto parts store, Tractor Supply, farm co-op...
Niel Hoback
TSC or Farm and Fleet. Big R, also.
TodFitch
Not sure if group 1 or group 2, but my "local better auto supply" typically has at least one in stock. Probably cheaper at a place like Tractor Supply, but I like to send whatever business I can to the local store to help keep them around. Plymouthy Adams
my local TSC to my knowldge never had a group 2 battery..they did not even have a slot on the shelf for this puppy..and TSC is now in a big push to have their name on as many products as possible..the Valspar line of paint is being sold off at liquidation prices and the new cans marked TSC..however it is my understanding only the label is changing..still the same product...and they love veterans..absolutely no discounts to veterans.. greg g
Check your area for an interstate or Exide ware house. I just got an excide group 1 (factory second) for 35 bucks. the one I replaced was installed in 2005 it was also an exide 2nd so I got my money's worth. I have also had good luck with Interstate 2nds also from their local ware house. Usually they sell these batteries that have shipping scratches or the decals are on a bit crooked for about half the normal retail price. Never had one las less than 4 years. The route drivers also return batteries to the ware house that are near or slightly past their recommended sell by dates. again about half price. BobT-47P15
Do you have any retailers in your area called "battery warehouse" or "battery outfitter" or similar.....battery specialty store?? They tend to have them. Also tractor supply, attwoods and other places as named. While you're at it -- don't forget to get some "0" gauge cables. Dan Hiebert
I use Duralast from Autozone. About 100 more CCA than a "plain old" 6v.
PapsPlymouth
i also use the duralast, comes with a 2 year free replacement warranty
WatchingWolf
Mills Fleet Farm Stores all over Wisconsin stock a farm rated 6 volt that I switch between the 50 Wayfarer and my 43 Allis Chalmers on a regular basis. Always plenty of crank and actually about 6 years old now....wow, I just jinxed that battery, didn't I?
Niel Hoback
Last week at the "Big R" in Michigan city the group 1 size was $68 and the group 2 was $79. I don't know how big a chain that is, but there you go. Search them online.
randroid
Gents, Rather than worrying about obtaining the proper "group" by which my future POC trailer queen will be judged, I've simply measured the space available and gotten the largest battery I could squeeze in. That gives me the best chance of getting the car started when it's -15 outside and the peace of mind that comes with it is always worth a few bucks more. -Randy
