So I finally had a chance to pull the panel truck out of its winter hibernation.

Went for a drive and took this picture.

Great to be behind the wheel again!

Please feel free to post pictures of your rides!

Mark, when I lived in Needham Erickson's was frequently a destination for a Sunday ride. The other place we liked was the Bubbling Brook on route 109 in Westwood, MA.

Dave, I grew up in maynard, about 1/4 mile east of ericksons. Now I live up thhe road further west on 117, just over the stow/Bolton line. Ericksons was always a treat growing up, but we frequented Kimballs in Westford since my grandparents lived over tha way. Haven't been to the bubbling brook yet, but I'm always looking for new destinations.

You guys are so lucky. I can't get my cars out of winter storage until I free up some room in my garage :(. As you can see from the photos, my '64 tempest body is on one half of my garage and the chassis is on the other side. The plan is to have the body back on the frame by the end of April. It has new floor pans, new trunk pan and new rear quarter skins (that are tacked in - to be TIG welded by my son-in-law very soon).

I took my 47 and drove it 100 miles yesterday to move it to my new place in Galt, CA. I was a little nervous, as I haven't taken it for a long drive in about a decade or so, and I was going over the Altamont Pass as part of the trip. The trip was delightfully uneventful, and it went up the pass at 60 MPH in overdrive.

Come to think of it, it went over the top faster than that. I was thinking that the traffic was moving slower than normal until 3/4 of the way there, then I remembered that I had changed to a taller rear tire since I had the speedo calibrated. I was thinking I was going 60-65, but when I asked my daughter, who followed me up to give me a lift back, she said I was usually traveling at 65-75 MPH. Not bad for a flathead six!

As promised a few from my drive home. After hooking the battery back up spot started up on the second push of the button. Not bad for sitting since November. Drove home without too much difficulty but at about 1/2 way it started to rain and my wipers need help. Its on my todo list for this summer now! Hopefully the rain kept going and put down some moisture in the cabin area. The woods are full of downfall from a big storm last 4th of July and without much snow the fire danger is huge. They estimate only 40% of the storm downed trees are cleaned up. Currently there is a ban on all recreational fires including charcoal grills and even cigarettes!

The road pictures are great. Thats what I think of when someone sya Minnesota. When we were little kids my dad would let us drive on the Gunflint trail. It was a gravel road and we were in a dark green 48 Plymouth. Good pictures, just what I needed today.

Got her back together last week. Rebuilt the motor, od transmission, steering box, brakes and threw new seals in the rear end. Trying to clock some miles on her around town before the 2,000 mile drive home in a month

I cranked up my coupe this AM, wife said our dog went nuts wanting to ride. Went to get some gas came home, washed it up, did a quick trip around the hood. I think my water pump is not long for the world, its moaning at me. Try a can of lube, but will probly be looking at a replacement.

Greg I had to press the 48 into delivering me to work. I went to change the oil on the dakota last night and the radiator was spewing coolant. So today I'll be swapping in a new one.

I was able to finish a 1500 mile road trip back in the '70s in my Plymouth by simply putting some grease into the Alemite hydraulic (a.k.a. Zerk) fitting on the top of my water pump every time I stopped for gas... I guess you lose this type of fall back when you install a water pump with modern seals and bearings.

Yea no zerk on this one. Gonna hafta check my other engine to see if that pump is still on that one.

Greg, if you go to the trouble of changing it, put in a new one. Probably the last one you will ever use. Remember to use an anti-sieze on the threads as it works as a good sealant as well.
