Rodney Bullock Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 We have all had our share of the winter. Lots of tragity everywhere. folks getting snow rain and now winds up to 70 miles a hour. I went down to the garage day before yesterday to discover a huge tree sitting on the roof of my garage:eek: Now I can't think of the damage it has caused. The roof is caved in and I can't get the doors open. I will go back the week end to see what can be done. Ihuess the cars inside and done for:( what can you do....right. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 if that was a gable style roof in the beginning.(judging by the angle of the rafters as shown)..it now appears to be inverted..I suspect there will be some damage. This is not a pretty sight..good luck..be careful... Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Well, the walls appear to be standing at this point. Lots of variables as to how much damage done. Hopefully is minimal........and won't look like this -- And, now the rest of the story......about a week and a half ago that house on the right, where the tree owner lived, burned. A passer-by woke the occupants who got out safely, but the house is a goner. Quote
Jim Yergin Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Ouch Rodney! Which cars are in the garage? Jim Yergin Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted February 17, 2011 Author Report Posted February 17, 2011 I tried to see how much damage today but I could not bring myself to do it. I will try tomorrow. I was supposed to go to Alantic city saturday I will try to sell my ticket. My friends are supposed to go tomorrow. I am so scared:mad: The Plymouth is in the metal garage:) Quote
oldodge41 Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Be careful around that building as it may be really unstable at this point. I hope the damage is minimal. Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Be careful, do not access this building alone, and have others around for emergency backup, have a plan with experience on this type of building collapse issues. Is the insurance company been there, to see what's what. and to assess the damages. I hope all is well, and any damage is minimal. Have someone in the know, on how to support the roof, get the tree off the roof, and anything else unstable and heavy, before trying to get the cars out of there. I hope things work out Rodney, I know this is devastating to you, keep your spirits up, take plenty of photos too, and let us know what you discover....Take care Quote
TodFitch Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Ouch! I sure hope that the car(s) that are in there are not badly damaged. Be really careful for you own safety when near that building. Quote
John Mulders Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Be careful, hope the damage is minimal. Had my share lately with waterdamage due to flooding and 3 trees down, not a good experience with the insurance company. John Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Rodney, from the picture it looks like the shed held up. That is one big tree, though. You're going to have fun cutting that one up. Let us know how your cars are. Quote
RobertKB Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Rodney, I hope all is well and damage to the car, if any, is minimal. Be very careful with moving the tree as we don't want to see a picture of it on top of you! Garage can be replaced. By the way, your post is not OT as your Plymouth is one of my favourite cars on the forum and I am sure many others feel the same way. Plymouth in danger is never OT. All the best! Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Rodney, when a tree fell on my son's garage containing his truck and his Jaguar, the insurance company sent a tree contractor to remove the tree for him. You shouldn't have to do that as its not safe for you and you probably don't have the equipment to do it without causing more damage. I suggest you not touch anything until a representative of your insurance company sees it and advises you. Above all, BE CAREFUL and hope for the best. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 My Granddad has all the equipment to cut and remove trees. We grew up there and I have done this many times. We went in and after the tree was removed the doors opened easy. The beam that holds the roof was the one that took the hit We were able to take two big car jacks and jack up the roof then used a 6 by 12 and sister the beam. Then we used bolts and these flat iron sheets with nails to reconnect the broken boards together then we put the scews in. The thing is stornger than before. It looked so hopeless at first. It really helps when you got master carpentiers as friends. It pays to help your buddies in good times cause when things go bad they are johnny on the spot. Now off to Atlantic city G potter king:) Quote
RobertKB Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Glad you were able to remove the tree safely and repair the garage. I assume that the Plymouth was OK?? Sometimes you get lucky and good friends are certainly worth having! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 The beam you see broken was 2 inches from the top of the truck. No cars were hurt by the tree. I must be living right as I could not believe it. This took about 4 hours, by 3:00 we were eating at Bob evans. You know who payed:o Quote

greg g Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Rodney time for you to light a big candle and to donate some of your ill gotten booty to some of the less fortunate in your area. Your Karma meter was on the positive side and you need to keep it there. Quote
