Horrible interior for 15,000...dash has what looks to be peeling latex house paint, panels all wrinkly on the doors,etc.

So it wasn't just me thinking that? Mixing and matching eras for the instruments also did not work for me.

All it needs is a turbo. Should be a great road car, albiet a bit slow (wonder how it stacks up against stock acceleration wise) Yea the dashboard is not what most of us would like to have,and the seats (though volvo seats are comfy) could be shaged to something more in keeping with the cars era. If the guy drove to Alaska and back seems pretty well sorted.

The 5 banger MB diesel is probably one of the heartiest engines ever made, probably hundreds of thousands strong in taxis world over.

Front seats maybe OK.

Kind of odd with the digital gear shift readout next to the original

speedo......but what do you do with such a thing? Might have been

some less conspicuous place for it, but only so much space on the

dash.

Great looking car but as mentioned the interior is kind of hokey. If the chassis has not been cut up and has the stock steering, brakes, etc. I would return it to stock power train. Mercedes diesel in a '40 Plymouth is not my cup of tea. More likely someone will get it and rod it with a V8.

I saw the ad first time around and read the text. I like the story more then the car. As stated by the son.....

Ha! I had an old 53 Cranbrook that was all stock that I got 30 mpg (once ). Usually averaged mid 20s.

Nice. With fuel on the rise I think folks are going to have to get more creative to be able to afford to drive these old tanks. Although I will say old Mopars seem pretty easy on gas. Nice thing about diesels is the ability to run them on fry grease and drain oil. I had an old F250 that I used to run on drain oil myself.

I bet you would find numerous examples of odd engines in all brands

of 40s and 50s cars in Cuba. They just had to work with stuff they

could get over the years due to the U S embargo on goods.

There are old cars with Russian diesel engines and who knows what

else under the hoods. Necessity was the mother of invention there.

Here is an old Plymouth we saw in Cuba a couple years ago with a Land Rover diesel engine and (I think) dashboard.

I've got plenty more CubaCar pix if folks are interested. It was fascinating to what they did to keep some of those heaps on the road.

I knew a guy in Carl Junction, MO who was a mechanic at the local White Implement dealer. He built several hot rods for folks around the area before he died of cancer. For his personal rods he had a model T roadster pickup with a blown small block Chevy and a model T touring car with a diesel in it. He built both on custom frames/suspensions that he had designed/built.

I can tell you that the touring with the turbo diesel would haul butt. Of course it was pretty light weight but it would fly.

I'm with you guys on the interior; looks awful. But if the body is solid and not full of bondo it'd make a good starting point. I like the color, wheel choice, and stance but the interior and diesel would have to go.

that 300D from the late 70s W123 Mercedes is one hell of an engine,

the turbo diesel would be better but this is still great...

on the other hand i would still say it doesn't belong there.

the sound of it is just not right on this kind of car.

if i want mpg i'd have to choose another ride, i guess.

or a fish carb... zip+mileage!

interiour is straight from hell...

still kind of cool, i love the 40 coupe body and one of these days...

nice concept but yes the interior looks like the kid went to town on it in grade school. i would buy at $9,000. i was thing of using my mercedes S320 in-line v6 in my next coupe that i buy.
