Merle it does. It has both. Not sure how that works as far as cooling. Can you have too much bypass? Anyway I broke one of the water pump bolts off so its having issues

I believe the determining factor is the thermosat housing , the water pump connection and the secret is the waterpump gasket. If some one could post the underside pics of the head, detailing their casting and passages, I would like to see the definative topography besides the infamous hump.

well im still on the hunt then.

Just curious as to why you need a 47 original head? Seems with all the non original modifications (powter coating etc) you have done it would not matter? I think this has been asked before, but I need to ask again, what is your end result objective?

When I built my car I struggled a lot with the line in the sand. As in where do I stop re-newing/modifing things? I reached a happy medium with a very drivable car that requires very low maintanance, but my car will never score high as an original. With the modifications you have done to your car it will also never score high as an original. So why is finding this engine head important? Share your logic with me as I do not understand.

These are the pictures I put up on another thread. Is this what you wanted to see Greg?

i am making my ar a functionall car that i will never have to mess with again once it done. By this i mean, to me paint doesnt last, so i can have everything powdercoated, so it looks good for the next 50 years or so. Basically what im doing is over restoring the car. i am making the car be able to do 70 on the high with the od tranny, and powdercoating frame, and block, and suspension pieces so ill never have to buy a can of spray paint ever again.

Beside those things, its gonna be a stock car. i am also going to put a moster sound system in aswell, the car will shake, when im done.

So you're converting to 12v and installing an alternator?

not doing any of that..so I assume you will be having a special rack of "charged at home" batteries to power the rocking shaking monster sound system...just call up old Crutchfield and have them send over 6 volt positve ground unit and monster amp, if they did, the generator will not recover the load, really, seriously, have you totally considered where you want to be with this car and what it takes to get there..all this and yet still a restoration...not trying to argue any point...just questions on your build stategy and ideas is all..

Correct Date Code, I have found two orginal p15 heads with the correct date codes you are looking for. Since they are so rare, the can be very expensive. Not sure I want to part with them, but will consider a more than reasonable offer.

i am going to have my sound guy come up with something, ussually they ad a 15 farad cap unit which stores energy, in my previous 6 volt car i had a really good setup, and worked fine.

I fried a stock generator just running an 802 tube radio, cassette player, headlights, and foglights at once. The only way that I would even consider the type of sound system you are wanting is with a high-output alternator. Since the car is currently apart any ways, it only makes sense to go 12v and then use the Technostalgia taillights and brakelight.

The "correct" head seems to be pointless when one plans to be putting in a pumping, shaking, and pounding sound system. Matching numbers on the head seems to be a moot point by then.

true but i already bought a wiring harness from ynz that was 6 volt, so i cant do that at this point.

What is it about the harness that prevents the passage of 12 volts?

A review of Ohm's Law might be helpful (hint this is not an old court room TV drama)

i didnt know you can use the new harness for 12 or 6 good to know?

Mike, a 6V wiring harness can easily support a 12V system due to the larger diameter wiring...however a 12V wire cannot support 6V due to insufficent sized wire.

In other words always wire these cars for 6V and then you can choose between 6 or 12 later if you change your mind.

thats the best news, i still thinking to stikc with 6 volt cause the guages and all the accesories, clock and radio are 6 volt.

How do you intend to get the amplification you desire out of a 6v AM tube radio? Lets just say that the sound coming out of a 6v AM tube radio has a sound quality you may not appreciate, and may prefer not to amplify it.

High Temp Engine paint holds up better than powdercoat where excessive heat is involved. But don't believe me, I'm brain damaged from breathing in too many powdercoat fumes.

Ben you must be a stereo&electronics type guy....myself one speaker or 2 small ones are good enough for me.:) My daughter Delia's ears have to be bleeding in order for her to enjoy music:eek:

Frankie car steroes are fun. I've got a complete custom system in my daily driver with an alpine stereo with Ipod control, 4 pioneer speakers and an amp each for the door speakers and my 6x9s behind the seat.

I never listen to my radio, DVD's, or anything else in my car. Never understood the reasons for huge or intricate sound systems. I just like being part of the car whether it is old or new. I have driven straight through to Vancouver several times from where I live which is over 700 miles and never have the radio or music on.

I gotta have a radio, I don't see how people can do without one especially on a long drive. Anything to drowned out the little voices.

We do books on tape or disc on long trips.

Today's music ain't got no soul. Might consider a Sirrius but can't justify the cost right now.
