Robin (UK) Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Took my Plymouth to the shop today, for new wheel bearings, service, tune-up and a few other tweaks. Bryan was there, collecting his red coupe and Deano's green sedan was on the ramp having headers and twin pipes fitted. We lined them all up outside, with a 47 Chrysler sedan that's for sale, and got this great shot. This is certainly a rare sight in the UK. Hope you like it. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 really nice! great cars. even the shop looks old fashioned, really neat! Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 I didn't know they had color film back in the late 40's. You could easily retouch that picture to make it look vintage and nobody would be the wiser. Looks awesome. Merle Quote
Robin (UK) Posted February 26, 2009 Author Report Posted February 26, 2009 Here you go. I've made it faded and yellowed. R. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Nifty pic, Robin. Looks like a cool old garage place. Is the mechanic an older or younger guy? Quote
Bingster Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 That is a fabulous shot. Nothing in that photo that readily betrays the date. And I'm quite certain they did have color film back in the forties, at least Kodachrome. Maybe somebody can give the date that Kodachrome was marketed. You really should market that as a poster. Joe Flanagan Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Have you ever seen "World War II in Color" on the History Channel? Amazing footage, all in color. Much of it is in the Pacific, though. Quote
greg g Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 great pic. Your repair man must be making a nice living off that lot....... Keep him fixed with Porter and Bangers fortnight or so. Quote

normanpitkin Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 hi ,wish my 48 new yorker coupe had been there too ! Finally picking it up with its new mot tomorrow and then to ipswich of all places to get it registered and ready to drive at last! Any thoughts where to buy a new battery in london by the way? Quote
Robin (UK) Posted February 27, 2009 Author Report Posted February 27, 2009 OK. Here goes with lots of answers: RobertKB and Suddensix, The repair shop is not actually in London. It's in a small town called Farnborough. I'd happily give you the address and the guys there are always willing to show people around, but there's not much else in the area for tourists, so I wouldn't recommend using a precious day's holiday just for that visit. You'd be better off going to a car show if you can. Suddensix Please let me know when you are in London. If my timetable allows, I'll happily hook up with you and take you for a cruise around town in my P15. Bob T The guys at the shop are all in their late 40s or early 50s. They are traditional hotrodders so they know their way round flathead motors and all the old technology. They are also real enthusiasts, so are happy to repair parts (instead of replace), fabricate pieces and generally work to solve problems. normanpitkin - William, Can't wait to see your car. Glad to hear you're nearly on the road. I haven't bought a battery in London but I have these links on my favourites, from extensive internet searches. Hope they are helpful. Please let me know if you buy from either place. http://www.barden-uk.com/6-12-volt-classic-hard-rubber-batteries.html http://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/cgi-bin/megastore/commerce.cgi?product=Batteries_Vintage_Vehicles!6_Volt By the way, Deano and I and hopefully a few others will be meeting in West London to cruise down to the Wheels Day show on Good Friday. PM me, or email if you'd like to join us. You'll be welcome. Hope that answers everyone. In the meantime, here's my attempt at producing a vintage color picture, with adjusted coloration and contrast and added graining and white border. Quote

Suddensix Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Thanks for the offer Robin, that would be a blast. We will be in London from July 12 to 17. I have to squeeze in an overnight to Essex during that time. We are staying at the Westland Hotel on Bayswater Rd. I will touch base with you before July. Cheers Gary Quote

Maybe I can pick you up and take you for a cruise around some of the sights? We should be able to take in Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and a few other places in about an hour or so on a round trip from your hotel. You can email me at: Robin@RockTheJoint.com All the best. Robin. Quote
