The question was ask, what cars were made in Mexico. Well..........look no further than Mopar. The first one I had that was assembled in Mexico was my 87 Reliant. So.........since Reliant and Dodge was usually assembled in the same plants, Chrysler probably still has at least a Dodge assembly plant down there. Then they ship them back into the US.

Someone said the burgers were not made the same as long ago. Well.........my guess is, they still have not changed. For most of us our taste buds have just become more sophisticated with age, and you don't like the junk fast food anymore. I know I said I still like White Castle burgers. However, since we don't have any here, I only buy them about once a year when going through Indiana on the way to Kentucky. That said, I don't eat near as many now. Back in the 60's I could eat about a dozen of those things in one sitting. However today, my tolerance level is 4 per year. Outside of that, we don't stop at any other fast food places, even while on vacation. We will find a nice sit down place and order our food from a waitress or waiter, then he/she will bring it when it's ready. After all, when on vacation one is not supposed to be in a hurry. That's why they call it a vacation, so you can relax and rest, not be in a hurry. So.........we take our time to eat while on vacation. Actually, it's about the same at home. No fast food joints, except for the occasional chicken from Culvers. That goes for lunch too. I'll go to a sit down place and take my time, it's my lunch hour.

Now, you say you have to you don't have time when working. Yes, I'm my own boss and can easily get away with it. But..........Before I became my own boss in 1990 I did the same thing. 12 PM - 1 PM and it's my lunch hour, work can wait and I didn't care who I said that too. I remember a small company I worked for just before doing my own thing. The owner wanted all the sales people in the office on Friday mornings, which meant I had to drive 100 miles to get there. Sales meeting was supposed to start at 9 AM. Well.....the owner would come waltzing in a little after 12 PM (lunch time) and then start the meeting right away, which lasted until about 2 or 2:30 PM. So........the third week I was there 12 PM rolled around and I told the other sales people, if the owner came in after I left and wanted to know where I was, tell him I'm out to lunch and would return at 1 PM. When I returned that first time, the owner said I was supposed to be there for the meeting. Then I reminded him, he was suppose to start the meeting at 9 AM, not my lunch hour at 12 PM. So........after that, the meetings still did not start at 9 AM, but he did have his self there by 10 AM to start the meeting. So.......the moral of the story is, you are supposed to eat slowly, so really there is no need for fast food of any kind.:)

A pair of double bacon cheese bergers, small order of fries, and two medium drinks came to a tad under twenty bucks. Lisa thought that was high until the bag of food was ready. This is one of those places where you place your order and they give you cups for your drinks and a number. The drinks come in two sizes. Medium and large. But you get free refills with both sizes so why buy the large. Also there is a big box of "in the shell" roasted peanuts and they are free to eat while your food is being cooked.

Well.........the Sonic place I mentioned did open Tuesday. Now I heard on the news that there is going to be another one built on the far south side (Oak Creek for those in the area). So.......I guess Sonic may be trying to get at least one place on the far northern side next. But........after reading about them hear, don't think I'll be in any hurry to try one.

... I will be stopping there! Saw the Food Channel special on that place. Mmmmmmmmmm......................

This is probably one of the last, original greasy spoons on old Route 66 in California. It's called Norma Jean's Holland Burger and it's located just out of Victorville on old Highway 66 on the way to Barstow (I'm sure Dennis is familiar with this place). It's been in existence since 1947 and it's world famous to Route 66 travelers with great, tasty food. No "Happy Days" malt shop look. No loud, bright neon lights overwhelming the inside. No reproduction Wurlitzer jukebox in the corner playing 1950's and 60's CD's. No waitresses dressed poodle skirts and poni-tails and chewing bubble gum. It's the real thing serving good old-fashioned American cooking...just like it used to be at very affordable and reasonable prices. No Sonic Burger, Legend's or Peggy Sue's can compete with this original greasy spoon. I'll let the pictures and info links explain the rest.

We have all the Sonic ads but none of the drive ins. We stopped at one in NC, that should about do it for me. We have several places qround to get a good burger, couple places where they form the patties as ordered.

I have been watching Diners Drive in and Dives of the food network, and when we travel these days we try to stop at the local non chain places, some are poor some are fair and some are great. But all are butter than MC D's or the other national chains. They're stock and trade is consistant mediocracy, so you always kow what your are getting.

There is lots of good stuff out there, unfortunately it not always EZ on EZ off.

When we visited the Coatney's we went to lunch at a local spot that was part diner, part soul food kitchen, part 6th grade cafeteria. The food was inexpensive, came in decent sized portions, and was no more then what we would have spent for value meals at a national.

Norm, we must have had the same boss!!! I had a boss back in the 70's who insisted on a sales meeting on Fridays at 9am as well.

We were supposed to be out selling, but would come in for this meeting which never began until 11:30 or so. A whole morning of earning an income shot. Lunch shot, and me pi$$ed off.

I, too left for lunch and then a sales appointment but I did it in the middle of the meeting. Boss says where are you going? I said to lunch and then to my 1:15 at so and so company.

It took 2 of these walk-outs and then the other guys left, too :D

Meetings then began on time and were OVER at 10!

(they were just b!tch sessions anyway)

Nowadays, my coffee break and lunch are top priority, and I'll drop everything to take them. I even take looong ones!

I've learned over the years that nobody recalls OR appreciates it when someone skips those for "more important" things.

In Chandler, AZ, you can have a triple bypass burger and some Flatliner Fries cooked in pure lard!!!

Want a diet Coke? Not here, you don't...they don't sell diet anything. Not even lettuce on the burgers.

Brought to your table by scantily clad "nurses":)

I haven't been there in years, but Ted's Hot Dogs on Sheridan Drive in Buffalo (actually the adjoining town of Tonawanda) makes great hot dogs. I used to see lines out the door for them.

Earlier in this thread there was talk about Five Guys Burgers, which I had never heard of. However, this morning as I was driving down a road that I travel occasionally, I noticed a new Five Guys Burger joint. I guess I'll have to give them a try one of these days, based on Don's report.

I'm certainly no health nut. But........I'd stay away from all those Butter Burgers and Fast Food Burgers with a ton of fries and a soda on a regular basis if I were you guys. Back in the 90's I use to have an independent local delivery service guy who did a lot of local hauling for us. He always had empty bags in the truck from some fast food place. One day when we called him to make a delivery for us, we got his partner. When his partner came in he said the guy had a heart attack and died. Said his arteries were all clogged from the fast food he always ate. So........just a word to the wise. The guy was only in his early 50's.

I don't know if the Butter Burgers or Fast Food Burgers with a ton of fries and a soda had any thing to do with his arteries being clogged, mine are clogged and I cannot eat at a fast food/greasy spoon resturant due to the fact that I am a Celiac & I cannot have any Wheat, Rye, Barley or Oats. :(

The VA Hospital called Friday and I have a surgery date of 2 April for a roto roter job to unclog mine.

Dennis:)

Does Chandler happen to be on old Rt. 66? I may have to stop there when I make my trip to LA after installing an OD.

Chandler is in the Phoenix metro area. I think US 60 went through there and US 80 might have too. US 66 cut across the northern part of the state, perhaps 150 miles away at the near point (Flagstaff).
