aero3113 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 What do you guys think,I want honest opinions on how you think the visor looks. I was going to sell it but I think I like the looks of it and I only paid $66 for it on e-bay!!! Quote

Furylee2 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I've always liked the look of sunvisors on the old Plymouths. I got one for my 41 coupe, just haven't gotten it painted and installed yet. Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 The outside sunvisor looks great, I have always liked them on the 40's and early 50's vehicles. Growing up my Uncle John had a late 40's GMC pickup with the outside sunvisor, so naturally when I got my Plymouth 20 years ago this month one of the first things I did was save some money and bought a Fulton sunvisor from Moores in Rapid City. In fact my youngest son Shane, who is 27, has had a 1951 Chevy 4dr sedan that he got an outside sunvisor from Big Jim's. So needless to say we enjoy our outside visors very much. Thanks for sharing Quote
Young Ed Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I don't care for them on cars. Certainly go for it if you like the look if you like it. Typically I prefer smoothness. I took the spotlight off my car too for the same reason. Quote
oldmopar Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I had never considered purchasing one but my 52 suburban came with one on it. It does look good so for now it will stay on mostly concerned about having good road vision when driving. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I like the looks of a sun visor on any car except one that I drive. I can get a "kink" in my neck looking up at a stop light without a sun visor. Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I agree about stop lights, the first few times that I drove the Plymouth I made the mistake of driving up to the light like I would in a newer car, well after the crick in my neck a couple of times, now if I pull up the a traffic light and am the first vehicle there, I don't pull up as close as I normally would to the line. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I had one on the 49..stock factory style..similar to the item pictured above..kink in neck is correct..but does add a bit of looks to the car..it is the fulton brand with them big ugly mounts that I think detract from the car..I have one of them here also..came on the 41 Town Sedan..I also have one more like the one pictured above and though about putting it on my Suburban..not sure yet..the Stude has a visor of its own that is very Stude mount only..very sharp looking device... Reg Evans Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I like them minus the pin stripes. Just hunch down like the "Where's the beef" lady to see the traffic lights. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 After viewing the pictures, I would wonder if you should raise the front edge up just a bit further. Looks awfully low. You might should get one of these prism stoplight viewers to address the stoplite problem. Buy it now $22.95 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Traffic-light-viewer-GUIDE-for-Vintage-Rat-Hot-Rod-car_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1416Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem270295153926QQitemZ270295153926QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Or, the slightly cheaper stick on kind. BloodyKnuckles Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Personally, I love it! I think it sets your car off and out from the crowds. Cool! As for the crink in the neck, my chop top has given me plenty of tight necks. BloodyKnuckles Quote
Phil Martin Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Love to have one on my dodge Quote
steveplym Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I like the sunvisor on my car. Makes it look good. I, like Ed, did not like to spot light on the car. It always got in the way when driving and making tight left turns. Got rid of it, but the sun stays out of your eyes better with the visor, and off the dash too. Quote
aero3113 Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 It does sit low, I am thinking of maybe selling it and use the money for wide white walls. Quote
windsor8 Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I have a visor on my 48 Dodge and yes it makes it a little tricky to see traffic lights without bending your neck like a drain trap. I use the reflection of the traffic light in the paint on the hood. just be careful that you're seeing the right signals. Quote
PatS.... Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I have never liked the Fenton visor...side bracket is too busy and unsightly. I did like the Peckat visor. I had one on my frst 49 Chrysler, a dealer added accesory installed when it was new. The paint was shiney enough to see the reflection of the traffic lights in the hood paint. Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Here is a photo that I took this Spring driving down the road, I made sure that there was no traffic when I took the photo. As you can see, the view is good thru the windshield, even with the outside Fulton Sunvisor Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 If you had the visor off you would have seen the police helicopter following you overhead... Quote
greg g Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I saw a Peckat on a Plymouth suburban couple years back. It was a textured aluminum with brushed aluminum ends and center piece. Nice looking unit. the bottom was painted a ice Jailhouse green. Quote
daddyo23 Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I've got a Fulton and I like it. It does set the car off from the others. Quote
48Dodger Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Yeah, I like the visor. I get what Don's saying about the lights, but its not a daily driver like "old yeller", so maybe form over function wins this time. 48D Quote
Brendan D25 Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 aero, I think if you moved the visor back further on the rain gutter, it would give you better vision. Probably about where your rearview mirror is located. If you keep it will you be painting the same colour as the car. IMHO they look better painted body colour. Re traffic lights, most places now have a light at the right side of the intersection which makes it easier to see. Brendan. Quote
