  1. I tossed in my 55 vote, we are not to far behind the oldsters in numbers. My uncle is 81, he always was like a father to me, I cleaned up his shop and set a table and chairs in it, he going blind and cant drive no more, sure puts a smile on his face to sit in the shop and hear the tools working.
  2. They say, poor people have poor ways I have been doing some repairs on my original cloth wiring by wrapping the bare sections with thread and then covering with nail polish to glue it down. I have used it on my heater and also the ground wire in the distributor. Then the last few inches on the generator. yeah yeah yeah, I know, it needs to be replaced, but most of it is in pretty good shape and useable. Am parting out a 52 plymouth suburban, the cloth wire above the headliner, going from the dash to rear dome light is like brand new, I am saving that as if I found a pile of gold.
  3. Anybody save and reuse the staples in wind shield garnish moulding? Think this is a stupid question, is pretty simple to cut them and remove, throw away. Could also bend them straight and reuse them. Problem is, I do not know what material will be using for a rubber seal and how it would be attached. Any ideas what would be a good gasket material to use for this job? I assume it's purpose is to keep the garnish from rattling when going over bumps? Got to go over there earlier this week and rub her fenders a bit and talk to her. Need to get going and spend more time if going to get anywhere. Rear end is waiting for new seals and shoes before putting back in, and frame wire brushed and painted. Still ranting about social security, been 5 years this month that became disabled, even though 2 months ago I went to court and won my case, still not heard anything yet. Should have received a letter in first couple weeks stating what I could expect, and then a first monthly check a few days later. I wont blow my check on the truck, will go to better housing conditions where will have the truck with me, to work on it as I can. I pray nobody here has to go through the feet dragging federal government shenanigans. There is no safety net for American citizens. Seems if you are a illegal alien, they want to give you welfare and housing. This will be the year Molly hits the road, I can feel it!
  4. looks like something some farmer made back in the day, probably a good idea and worked a long time. I say it is not original nor factory, but been wrong once before ... or was that twice before?
  5. Love the idea of the slant 6, they ooze awesomeness. Good luck with it, sounds like you are on the right track. Good choice on the rear end and brakes, is several threads here on master cylinder swap. Rebuild your stock axle, king pins bushings shocks etc, will be a great truck and fun to drive. I would say a good time to update to 12 volt, might be mandatory with slant 6 starter. The slant six came out with the super 6, it had a 2 barrel carb, you might want to use the holley, why not. Please make a effort to find a new home for the stock parts not using, someone will need them somewhere.
  6. when I was a kid, had a 51 ford with a flathead v8, cold weather I had to leave the air cleaner off, close the choke, then take a grease rag and put over the top of the carb for extra choke. This way it would start right up, without the rag it was real hit or miss if it would ever start. Today I would maybe say the carb was wore out, who knows.
  7. Maybe even something as simple as a choke cable connected to the hood latch mechanism, to interfere with turning it to open. Simply pull out the cable mounted to the dash to operate hood latch normally. Can think of several ways of proper interference, just look at it and see what works for you? Secure? not really, will keep a honest man honest is all.
  8. what about door poppers? you know the whole lowrider scene with shaved handles ..... seems like could make something work.
  9. One modification I saw was a spin on installed in the stock oil filter, was a old ford on a different forum. I do like the idea, would cut down on longer lines, looks original externally, less mess when changing. I have to wonder what you would save? as p15 - d24 says, bypass works pretty good as is.
  10. sounds like the only thing you want to keep is the sheet metal, gives you lots of options. It all boils down to what you want to build. Basically you have a ball of clay and what it ends up being is in your hands. Seriously think about what you want to use the truck for, is it to take you exploring on back country roads, cruise night at the local A&W, or haul hay for your critters. Once you figure out what you want, then find a donor truck to suit your needs. And HAVE FUN working on it. If you are not enjoying it, then your doing it wrong. If you have any old dodge parts that can be re-used, try to get them back to someone who needs them rather then scrapping them. Looking forward to what you come up with. Merry Christmas
  11. The other 3
  12. The other end of the spectrum is insurance value, whats it going to take to replace.
  13. I know others have connected jumper cables. Myself have only used a 12 volt battery connected to positive ground . The battery does not care which way you connect it. Now jumper cables from a negative ground truck to a positive ground truck, I just as soon stay away from.
  14. use a 12 volt, just do not turn any accessories on. Or jump / hotwire from the 12 volt to the starter without hooking it up in the car. fwiw, I hook a 12 volt up in my pilothouse just to turn the engine over, do not turn on the lights and have no issues. The 12 volt gets the starter turning nicely.
  15. Bumping the starter is excellent idea, where I will go next. I would like to put it in gear and rock it back and forth just pushing on it by hand. 1 ton truck and not rocking as desired ... maybe a stuck wheel. Yeah the bump I compare to a impact wrench, is the rattle or bumping of the driver that really makes them a great tool for removing tight nuts. It is the impact that breaks the nut loose, then the torque unscrews it. If that makes sense to anyone that thinks just turning the key and holding the starter on would work. Got to have some bump if you want to hear the exhaust thump!
  16. Was thinking about you last Monday. I put atf in these cylinders a year ago, then again in the spring and then summer. Checked it on Monday and still stuck. This time I used a tricky oil can with a hose and is 50/50 atf/wd40, just easy to snake the hose past the valves and really pump her full. Curious to see how the wd40/atf mix works.

    Edgy

Anyone try this? I mean I cant just walk into napa and buy a performance cam for my flathead 218. Thought about sending one off to have it reground to a performance spec. And edgy comes to mind. Any thoughts on this? Is it worth it, will they still idle ... not about going fast, just sounding good along the way.
  18. My problem with aliens or et's, to me that sounds as if they do not belong here. When in actuality, they were here long before we were. And they pulled out the testubes and played with the DNA to create us. Does this make them our gods? no, they are just brothers with a different mother that have more knowledge then we do. Earth has been around for billions of years, I say it has been populated and depopulated several times in the past. To think we are the first and the most advanced, just a bit arrogant on our part. I love to look at these photos of ancient civilization, huge amounts of photos out there. Then I picture the artist with his stone hammer and bronze chisel carving them out. What incredible patience they must have had carving granite with brass. But hey this is my rabbit hole, go find your own! When you see a multi dimensional light being, driving a pilot house truck in space, be sure to wave and I will wave back
  19. nothing like having a friend running a oil burner for a shop heater, or maybe heating your own shop with used oil. Just a shame to pour it on the ground and waste it. Cousin runs a oil burner and he dropped a 55 gallon barrel at the shop for us to dump oil in, when full we call him and he comes pick it up.
  20. BWAAHAAAHAAA, so true thanks for the laugh
  21. Go for the red kook aide, it taste the best I heard it on the internet so therefore it must be true! There is probably 2 pieces of non truth for every 1 piece of truth. dis-information to hide the truth is very real. But what the Internet does, creates communities of people with similar interest like old cars. Can be in any part of the world and talk to each other anytime they want. Now when something is going on in your particular neck of the woods, you can spread it through the community pipeline, and in just minutes, the whole world now knows your dog just pooped on your favorite shoes. Back in the early 80's, government began spraying the skies with something. Nobody knew what it was but could clearly see it happening. Then as a community formed, soon could see it was going on all over the world. Then the CIA coins a phrase called conspiracy theorist and labeled a kook and laughed at. Then in 2016, CIA DIRECTOR JOHN BRENNAN ADMITS TO CHEMTRAILS (STRATOSPHERIC AEROSOL INJECTION) Just saying, because of the internets, there is so much proof out there with photos, they had to come out and say something. And IMHO, should just make you more curious as to who, what and why. Why are they spraying toxic powdered metals in the air? Why did they try and hide it from us for so long. Sure they say repair ozone, I think the ozone is up above, not down here. Why is the CIA fixing our ozone anyways? would a team of NASA scientist be more qualified? In recent political shenanigans, can we trust the CIA? Just little questions to make you go hrrrm. Can we build the pyramids today? I say no, how did they build them back in the bronze days with hammer and bronze chisels What are the African circles, were they built to hold cattle like we are taught? Why no gates, seems a pita to lift the cows up and over the walls. why does every water supply put fluoride in the water? Even though we complain and insist we do not want it. Why does Bill Gates donate vaccines to all the poor children, then later claims he is helping with population control. Why is Africa the richest and most abundant supply of gold, silver, diamonds emeralds .... and the people of the nation are some of the poorest in the world. Why were billions of $$ in gold stored under building 7 of the world trade center, why was the building destroyed when the jets flew into the towers and spilled kerosene . What was suppose to legally happen to the gold on 9/12? Why was it never recovered or talked about? What really happened in Las Vegas, was their really just one shooter? Why did the FBI close the case so quickly, when was so many unanswered questions. Why was the nina, la pinta, santa maria flying rothchilds flag Why does George Soros donate voting booths, are we to poor to buy our own? Why does one family own all the media corporations while another family owns all the mineral rights and another own all the banks, why do we call it the federal reserve, when it is a privately owned bank? I have a lot of questions, this labels me as a kook because I question everything. I wear that kook label proudly. We do have to leave this world to our grandchildren.
  22. Rod and main bearings have oil holes in them for lubrication. When the bearings wear out, the oil passages get slightly larger and the oil pressure drops. Low oil pressure is a good indicator your bearings are getting thin. And for that reason alone, if I had a good running engine, I might spend a weekend dropping the pan and checking the bearings. Before one goes out and scores the crank and causes more damage. Of course I would want to exhaust all other avenues of repair first .... like asking on the p15-d-24 forum
  23. The short snout is another big reason they were used for sure, 2 or 3 inches is huge when fitting a v8 into a hole where a banger use to sit. Not a lot of small block fords in early fords for that reason.
  24. 331 This first FirePower engine, used from 1951 to 1955, has a bore of 3.8125 in and a stroke of 3.625 in for a piston displacement of 331 cu in (5.4 L), and a deck height of 10.32" ("low deck"). Most used a two-barrel carburetor and produced 180 bhp (134 kW), with the famous exception of the 1955 Chrysler C-300 equipped with dual Carter WCFB four-barrel carburetors. Five different versions between 185 hp (138 kW) and 283 hp (211 kW) were available, depending on whether a single carb, twin carbs, or fuel injection was used. Fuel injection yielded the most power topping out at 315 hp At the time, small block chevy was cheap and affordable, there were millions of them built, there were aftermarket speed parts everywhere. Hot Rodders were poor and used what they could afford. They put 283 chebbies in everything, And they had fun doing it. I would love to have a Hemi, I would leave it sitting on the engine stand and wipe it down and polish it up often. My only point is, there were not a lot of them made, they are getting hard to find and any speed parts will break "my" bank account, yours may vary. Love it or hate it, small block chevies was the hot rod crowd in the day.
