  1. Had the same problem.. Ended up the unit wasnt getting a ground. Run a ground wire and it worked then. Be very carefull if you take the gauge out of the tank. Unhook battery first. One spark in the tank opening and caboom !!!!
  2. Spend the money for an " exact" replica if you cant find a good used one.
  3. What did the sparkplugs look like. Should be toasty brown. Their looks tell about everything.
  4. Braking is so important that Im getting front disc for my 46 Ply from Scarecrow now that I can use the original wheels.
  5. Being a two door it shouldnt be hard to sell. Solid as it is with all the parts should bring a couple thousand. Lots of trunks around like that.
  6. Biggest problem is I cant get the air out of the system. So with spongey brakes its hard to tell whats good or not. Tried about everything.. I suspect the front aftermarket cylinders.. Any trouble with brake fade on the Chrysler Rockwood ?
  7. WOW !! Checked out scarebirds site and their front disc kit will clear the stock wheels on a 46 Plymouth.. This is getting intresting. Whats wrong with putting in a dual master cyl. up on the firewall like newer cars other then it being obviously incorrect..
  8. Ill convert to front discs when someone figures out how to keep the original wheels if ever. Meanwhile Im still trying to get all of the air out of the system.
  9. Bernbaums have the complete shoe and are priced about average...
  10. Speedway Motors has a frame mounted dual master cyl. with attached booster including the pedal.
  11. Too bad you cant still get out the Sears catalog and order a rebuilt like the old days.. I ordered one way back in the day and it was a great motor. It was even .060 over bored.
  12. If the motor doesnt knock or use an awfull lot of oil you should be fine going about anywhere. I used to keep some really bad cars on the road by just using a heavy top grade motor oil if you are just Summer driving. Go thru the starter, generator, water pump, Maybe a new aluminum radiator and belt and hoses and she should be reliable.
  13. Maybe replace the wheel cylinders ?
  14. I had this trouble once and found the shoe lining had gotten brake fluid on it. Only solution is to throw them out and install a new set. You cant clean them..
  15. Mine were frozen so I had to get in there with a grinder and grind off the heads to get it apart. Drilled out the screws and retaped them for new screws.
  16. Is there any way to install power steering on this car that has a chevy 350 V-8 and keep the original steering wheel etc. I doubt it but...
  17. Soak in penetrating oil for a month and try again ?
  18. Wonder if drilling a hole in the hub to get a socket on the adjuster nuts would work without making the hub unsafe. Also wonder if loose pads could be the cause of difficulty getting the air out of the system... Think Ill give it a look into.
  19. Make sure you have real good brakes on that burner. Using a torkflite ?
  20. 1948 Plymouths had electric wipers Im told.
  21. I took a half inch plate and drilled the wheel bolt pattern so I could bolt it to the hub using the lug nuts. Then drilled and tapped out the center for a 1/2 fine thread bolt. Got it all bolted on and both hubs came off without even tightening the bolt. Go figure. All that work for nothing.. One in a million Id bet though.
  22. There are lots of stuff better than tranny oil... Reslone, Seafoam, etc.
  23. Please check out parts wanted.. THX
  24. Try coasting in nutrle and applying the brakes.
  25. Anyone know the weight of the bare motor ?
