    1946 Deluxe

Rebuild , boreout, and soupup a Chrysler 250 Spitfire....A near boltin and a hell of alot less work..
  4. My frame there has several unknown holes all over the place. Could be assembly locating holes.
  5. Unscientific.....Shoot for perfect alignment and you will be off just about right.. LOL.
  6. Missed the aluminum part.. Yes the trns bell housing is aluminum... The original setup was side mounts which were about six inches from the front of the block and a transmission mount just past the trns. pan. so Ill either have to add the rear mount plate I referred to or add the side mounts.. Thx
  7. Branded said that could crack the trns flanges or block with mounts up front and trns mount. I do have the front mount that bolts to the front of the motor so it looks like Ill have to use the rear motor mounts to be on the safe side.
  8. That would be catastrophic.. I have two differing opinions now..
  9. This is a 1979 350 and the motor mounts on the sides of the block are only back about six nches from the front of the block not in the middle.. I have installed a mount that mounted to the front of the block so there is over 48 inches between that mount and the trns mount which is located right behind the drain pan. This Im sure is way too much. Thus the idea of the JEGS mount that installs between the motor and trns. Even using the block side mounts it seems like alot.
  10. 46 Ply convert. with the X frame. The JEGS page mentions no need for the trns mount but yes there should still be a crossmember.. A front motor mount is a long way from the trns mount. To long I think.
  11. I see the attachment isnt right. Try JEGS RM 6093
  12. Are those stainless steel strips between the rear fenders and body.. If they are like the ones I bought they are near impossible to install.
  13. Has anyone here installed the chevy rear motor mount from JEGS thats 1/4 inch thick and goes between the motor and the auto trns with mounts on both sides. It eliminates the need for a trans. cross member and mount..
  14. Whatever you do isnt going to be worth the effort.
  15. Not if it housed P-15 or D-24s.....
  16. Surprise I had when the 350 was all installed was there wasnt any room for the battery. They do make a high power small battery which fit nicely where the old one went. Opposite side I had to cutout a small piece of the splash panel to clear the manifold. .. Guess the story is that you just have to make it fit..Of corse a 350 isnt a 318...A friend put an old Desoto hemi in his 48 Plymouth and just left out the fender panels. Seemed that the heads were under the fenders... LOL
  17. Made it really tough to build a removable transmission cross member... I was like having two align cars because of lack of roof and the sills and floor were 90% gone. Then the top has to meet the top of the windshield pins.. Oofda
  18. I put a chevy 350 with automatic in my 46 but if I had to do it over again I would have stuck with the six cylinder.. A ton easier and cheaper. Those sixes are way cool with the dual carbs and dressed up .. I didnt know all that stuff was available for those motors. Dual exhaust with loud mufflers used to sound great.
  19. Wish I had seen your thread before I started my 46 Ply... Would have saved me a year or so.. Biggest mistake I made was assuming the convertible had the same frame as the other models.
  20. Darker paint will showoff the beauty rims more than a light color. Id go along with dark red...
  21. Site wont let me upload anymore pictures just now.
  22. Some pictures of the project
  23. What model type or what car off of is the steering box on your Desoto ? I have the starter switch at the key and am using the old starter button for the horn.
  24. Thanks bos... That helps alot. Im also wondering if its possible to somehow install a parking-emergency brake mechanism from another car into the Plymouth rear wheel hum to make it couple to a brake shoe and thus have an emergency brake... Im also checking into somehow fitting power steering while keeping the original column and steering wheel. The motor is now a chevy 350 so the reseviour -pump wont be a problem.. Next Spring when our local junk yard reopenes Ill get out there and look thru the place.
  25. Think Ive found a 1997 Jeep Cherokee rear end for my 1946 Plymouth. Will the original rims fit if this rear end has drum brakes or does the 1997 even come with drum brakes? Will this have the parking brake hookup also. Thx in advance..
