  1. Replace all the brake cylinders, master cylinder lines and hoses. Money well spent.
  2. Another thing I love about old cars is that they didnt have annoying beepers in them telling you dont have your seat belt fastened etc. Government intrusions everywhere.
  3. My reason being..I retired and after awhile started getting bored with time on my hands along with getting out of shape. Then one day an ad on Craigslist for a 1946 Plymouth basketcase convertible. After looking her over I determined almost all the convertible specific stuff was there minus the transmission. When I was in highschool so many eons ago my friends all drove 1947-48 Plymouths and there were many back seat memories there ) her name was Kay) LOL along with the dragging them and working on them, I had a 1951 Ford but always wanted one of those Plymouths. I had two coups thru the years but a convert was my dream, Im almost done with the restoration now. Need to get the glass company out to install the windshield and then drive to town for the top yet. Old cars lend many things like the mechanical, design, electrical, paint, and on and on. Ive done all the work myself. The car will look stock from the outside with even a single exhaust but she houses a Chevy 350 and 350 automatic. The dash is still original with the old gauges including the speedometer. Getting close to $20 thousand in her now but just the pleasure of the work going on three years is worth it. Got a couple pictures in "likes" and will have the completed car there in a couple months. Caution !!!!

I told the scammer I would pay cash when the car was sitting in my yard. Havnt gotten a reply.. The scammer said she had the delivery all worked out with a holding company as she was out of the Country working for National Geographic. I googled her name and she was indeed a contractor for them, I contacted National Geographic and they said they had been getting similar calls and it was a scam... If a deal seems too good to be true it is.
  6. On Trovit site for car sales there is a 1948 Plymouth convertible for sale for $7500 .. This is a very well done scam using an identity of a National Geographic employees name..
  7. If the car stops OK drive it and they will wear in.
  8. If you go to my profile and click "likes" there are a couple of the seats. Ill post some of the car when I get the top and hood on.
  9. I ordered the door panel material and cut them out using the old ones as a pattern. They attach to the door using what they call Christmas trees in the upholestry trade which have like 1/32 thick heads by about 3/4 dia and plastic shafts with catches on them to snap into a drilled hole in the door.
  10. Took the Ply out for a very short run yesterday. I put a Chevy 350 with 350 automatic in it. I was surprised how easily it steered with stock steering and radial tires. No power steering needed there. Ill check but I think the Cheve motor-trns is lighter than the stock running gear. Stock brakes stopped the car ok also. Think Ill see about changing the rear end as the stock on leaves me without an emergency brake. Put the door coverings on tomorrow and then the top when it gets here. Spring is still a month away here and it looks like the Ply will be ready. FINALLY !!
  11. OK..So Ive gotten the windows working nicely..Here is the way I did the door windows on my 1946 Ply convert. After removing the trim and door cover I rolled the window down to the bottom stop and then removed the vent window and frame which was quite easy. Then removed the snap pins and washers holding the arms on the mechanism from the bottom window frame with the slides. The window comes out easily then. Re=installing the window I dropped it down and then slid the vent window and frame down making sure the guide wheels are correctly in the window guides fore and aft. Using a small "C' clamp I managed to get the washers and snap pins back on the arms and window slides.. Kinda tough to get the snaps to snap over the shafts ..There is a 9/16 nut holding the mechanism that is holding on a vertical slot for adjusting along with a rectangle phillips bolt pattern also for adjustment. What had me confused is that the coil spring with the mechanism tightens when you roll the window UP not down like you would think. Guess the window need help coming down rather that up like I thought. With the window out you can see it tighten as you crank the handle up. Lubricated the crank gear and all friction points and thats about it. .
  12. My car is a convertible with the windows inclosed with metal trim. Found some post doing a search and concluded its a S.O.B.
  13. Can someone me with the installation procedure for the door windows. My shop manual is vague. The springs must have to be loaded when the window is down.. Im confused . THX
  14. Carefull with the lenz if its plastic.. They are very brittle.
  15. Hold number one spark plug wire against your tongue. You will soon know if its getting enough spark.. LOL
  16. Remove the trns first.. You will most likely want to replace the clutch, release bearing and press plate anyway.
  17. Dual master cyl. with vaccum booster....SpeedwayMotors.com 800-979-0122 Page 51 in their catalog #507 $249

    Tires

Radials need a minimum rim width. Coker sells a 15 and 16 inch radial with the original looking tread and wide whites I bought and they look great.
  19. Looks like a good time for you to replace that Master cylinder .. They do make one that fits where the old one goes that has dual chambers and a vacuum booster on the back along with attached clutch and brake pedals for about $230...
  20. When I was a kid we took an old wornout Plymouth and traded it in for a chrysler six bored 1/16 over at Sears Roebuck for about $250.. People thought the old Ply had a V-8..Can you even buy ready to install rebuilts like a Plymouth anymore ?
  21. ID personally get it bored to the max. plane the head, replace the valves and seats ( if they have seats ) so to burn unleaded. Good idea for a HD oil pump. You need all the horsepower you can get for this car ..
  22. It could be for Overland which Chrysler ended up with in a very roundabout way... Follow Overland to Willys and follow ownership.
