  1. Did you find a donor driveshaft or are you getting one made? Supposedly 83-85 v8 auto mustangs are the right length but those things are all soup cans up here
  2. You can check on the gasket that comes with a 1010 or 1071 filter. Personally I switched to the 1010 because I prefer the metal center vs the fiberous one of the 1010
  3. Put it on a YJ frame and call it good.
  4. I think it's a dodge. Grill looks a little fancier than a plymouth
  5. Man that chevy got smashed hard!
  6. And since you've already got a v8 why not put a modern diff in rather than hunting for 75 year old gearsets
  7. My trucks still have their carter's so I can't help with that side of it. However I'd be willing to take a look at your carter if you want to try and retain it.
  8. Yes it does seal off the cowl vent from rain. The main purpose is to provide outside air into the heater. I did all my wiring on the dash but put the radio in later. The biggest challenge and one I'm not sure I still got right is routing of the cables. My defrost, heat, and choke cables are difficult to pull.
  9. I would think scotch brite or steel wool is the way to go. I agree with the look too- for my 47 I purposely bought unpolished stainless
  10. Correct dual levers. I fixed the box from my coupe and managed to get it all back together! The driver's side heater makes it really crowded behind the dash on the driver's side
  11. You talking about the fresh air heater setup? Shouldn't be too hard to install if you have the dash pulled.
  12. What does it show for #40 and 41? The one I took apart just had a thick cork ring there so I may be missing a piece? Otherwise that appears to match what I have. I also am wondering now how I orient the steering gears together to get the steering wheel centered and the pitman arm correct. Is there a trick to it?
  13. That's how I read it. That 120 should be fine assuming the other 2 come in close
  14. I'm confused here. Are all 6 at 120 compression or did the other 2 come up short?? 120 should get you a great runner
  15. Be careful wanted posts aren't allowed in the open forum. However interchange posts are. Basically you want to make sure you stay with the same size engine. The bigger 6s with the 2 inch longer block have a different manifold setup. Beyond that there are a couple different positions of the exhaust pipe hookup but they will all bolt to the block.
  16. VPW stuff doesn't match what I have either
  17. Yes the box bolts to the inside of the frame and the pitman goes through to the outside where the arm and draglink are
  18. I tried that too... My book shows what looks very similar to what I have but it's labeled for the bigger trucks. No diagram for the pickups.
  19. Ya nothing of the sort. There is a bushing at each end but no seals other than cork between case and frame
  20. Last time we actually had a club meeting I sold a canister for $20. Maybe I should be grabbing them at the junkyard!
  21. Ok is there an actual seal in there? All I saw was a cork gasket between the 2 halves
  22. Thought I posted this a couple hours ago but no idea where it went or what happened. Anyway now that the threads are decently fixed I can proceed to repairing the rest. There wasn't really any fluid in it so I'm assuming it's a leaker (aren't they all?). The brake clean I sprayed in to clean didn't leak out of the bottom where the horn wire comes through. Isn't that the most common leak area? Only other seals are between the 2 halves and another cork at the output. There were still 4 shims installed too.
  23. Well it's close. Nut is still tight and won't thread by hand but it will go on with a socket or wrench. I split a nut both directions (2 actually the first time I got a coarse thread out of the fine thread bin at the hardware store) and with a combination of taping half of it on the threads to kinda push it back straight and then using both pieces as a die from the good threads to the top it's straightened up.
  24. At least for 37-38 plymouth trucks the bed floors are all steel. They started wood floors in 39. I would assume the dodges were the same
  25. I just took apart the box for my 47 truck. The threads for the steering wheel are buggered but I thought I better make sure the rest is good before I tackle the bad threads(part of me was hoping the whole thing was bad so I could start over). It appears the guts are in pretty decent shape except for being a leaker with no fluid coming out.
