  1. Good thought James. I grabbed my 51 parts book and it shows only one # for P22 and P23 along with the dodge and DeSotos all using the same. Also shows no diff # for the release bearing. Only break there is with and without fluid drive. This shows bearing with sleeve w/o fluid drive is mopar # 862859
  2. Not sure what year oil soup was working on but I put the slightly shorter jeep ones on the front of my 47. They installed fine and seem like they will work but I should point out truck isn't on the road yet.
  3. Be careful on swapping input shafts. There are 2 types of synchros and they don't mix. Few years ago Dad and I were sitting at a car show. Another guy we knew comes up and starts talking about how he saw a really nice 51 dodge that had been swapped to OD. Dad goes oh who do you think did that? He and I had done it for the prior owner. His gyromatic was clunking so out it went and OD in.
  4. Thanks not sure how I missed that!
  5. Also true headbolts have an undercut shank to prevent them from rusting to the head.
  6. It's not complicated at all. I used a long bolt chucked in a cordless drill as a redneck lathe to slightly reduce the OD of the /6 housing. Once you get it to fit in the block the rest is just basic dist reassembling and installation
  7. Apparently I bought the new units but only used the guts.
  8. Those look either newer or aftermarket. Does the rim have nubs or clips??
  9. Dad and I parted out many 50-52s preparing to restore his 51 convert. He kept everything even remotely useable but threw away every auburn clutch we came across...
  10. I doubt it. That big of a truck would have a taller frame. Any 39-47 mopar truck should work if you stay 1ton and under. Depending on how bad yours are though you might be better off straightening and welding. It's pretty common for the fronts of these to be bashed.
  11. If you end up hunting for a new one I'd put in a plug for a signal stat 900. Only well made modern unit I've run across
  12. Have you verified they aren't blinking outside and it's not just the indicator having issues? My truck has a very erratic indicator light but from my checking is always blinking at the lights
  13. Thanks we enjoy it. We just call it the wagon the 64 or the belvedere...
  14. I believe this basic body continued into 65 as the midsize platform after mopar accidentally thought they needed to downsize everything for 62.
  15. Maybe there was a pause in the term? My 64 factory brochure calls them either wagons or station wagons throughout.
  16. I personally went with a jeep 8.25 in my 47 but that was mostly because I found one for $40! Still waiting to get it on the road and see if that was a deal.. either way the ranger that came with that 7.5 probably had more HP than a flathead and it will be just fine in his truck
  17. The tricky part without being able to read the #s on the dist is knowing if it's original to the car. If 30years ago someone swapped in a different one buying parts by car year won't work. Have you pulled the dist and looked closely? Is the tag still there? I have some that have black tags and later ones that are red.
  18. Cruising again this weekend. Annual trip to the apple orchard. And swung in by a lake for a couple quick photos
  19. The good news short term is with that straight flange you can get an aftermarket clamp on filter to get you buy.
  20. That wouldn't surprise me. Also sometimes the Detroit factory may have had a different supplier than Cali. The one difference I've seen between newer and older is the height of the bolt hole for the brace. I had one all painted up for my p15 that probably came off a p23 and the hole didn't match up.
  21. I believe that's true for cars but not trucks. I think you could get a fluid drive 218 pickup
  22. I think your issue is no weight on the chassis. That extra weight should compress the springs some and possibly the shocks you already have will fit right on.
  23. Leo asked me at dinner tonight if I knew someone named ply Jim? He said he keeps sending them postcards. JB is that you?
  24. It's upside down but that's a napa gold 3943. Old pic so hopefully that # is still available or can be crossed to something that is.
