  1. Has anyone ever tested or verified that ice will push the plug out when you jb weld them? Seems excessive. I use the smallest amount of the right stuff just for insurance, incase there is a flaw.
  2. The right stuff by permatex
  3. For rollers, I'd dig through a tire pile. Right now people are swapping to snow tires like crazy. I have 225/70R15s on stock rims for my 50 Dodge. They rub near lock in the front and slightly in the back when swaying the body hard in fast cornering. I like the idea of trailer tires, and I wouldn't be afraid to rip some test runs on them. Good luck on the move.
  4. 6-52-12 snap ring on one side and it looks like 6-24-6 on the other side. 6-52-10 basically floats on 6-52-5. To much torque and 6-52-5 will deflect and the whole thing will pop appart. I know, it happened to me going into reverse. I didn't have 6-24-6, so i used a long bolt in place of 6-52-7 to push off the bell housing and stop the socket from dislocating. This was on my 50
  5. I purchased those exact bushings. They worked fine. There is a clip that retains them. Without it, it will pull apart.
  6. I didn't say you can't ask your question. I simply suggested a place where you can ask it, without clogging up the main board or worry of looking like a newb.. Nothing personal. One forum I'm a member of has just that, and it's great. It's a no bull forum that hurts a lot of feelings, so it's a good testing ground.
  7. Fair enough. But knowing these engine like to leak from the rear main, your efforts will most likely be futile. Either way, it's a simple thing to deal with, without addressing the peanut gallery. Seems like a lot of good threads are being diluted by questions like these. Maybe we need a newb section...
  8. You will never, in a million years, wear down the ring gear from a little grit.
  9. Nope, you can't do it...completely impossible.
  10. The best way would be the way the factory specified..
  11. Well that's moronic...but, not surprising..
  12. Yea the rain is here, frost as well. I just picked up a block heater. Going to drive the old girl until the snow hits. Even then, I might say F-it, and drive it anyways. Depends on how crazy it gets.
  13. I'm just going to drive my 50...
  14. I think you need to perform proper preformed diagnostic measurements, and get back to us.....
  15. Wire wheel it, that's a given. Then, brush on a few coats of rustmort. Finally, brush on rustolium, or whatever paint floats your boat. But brush it on to ensure a good, thick coating that will last.
  16. Flat head specific, will not fit other models.
  17. I have a trick for these situations. The factory made things to be quickly assembled. A lot of connections are a simple rivet of mechanical connection. Over time corrosion creeps into the layers and forms resistance. Build solder joints between connections on the switch. Solder the trace or tab to the rivet. Follow the current path and eliminate as many mechanical connections as possible.
  18. Kyle is mind blowingly talented. He really puts everyone else to shame.
  19. A machinist could make you one from scratch.
  20. I'd like to tackle mine. But..I'm lacking a good schematic and am having a hard time identifying the old caps. Maybe I'll give it a second look this winter.
  21. Ali covered copper is the same as Aluminized. It's coated in Aluminum for corrosion resistance. It also reduces the amount of copper. Edit: rereading your post you said copper covered Ali. That's the cheapest stuff. I've seen it in transformers. Tinned would be similar to Aluminized. When you solder wire you need to tin it first. The copper is ran through a solder bath before the jacket goes on. It prevents green death from getting to the copper.
  22. So a guy with a lathe may be able to bore and bush it, otherwise you're up shat creek. I'm glad you mention this, because now it's on my mind. I'll have to check my own dizzy now.
  23. Sounds like an omen of things to come. A leaking frost plug tells me the block is full of crap. Overheating will ensue.
  24. As you close the hood, push back on it.
  25. That looks about par for the course. My welding tip is to go watch Make it Kustom. Carl gives good pointers, and his quality is well above Chad.
