  1. Sowy to hear that. Atleast the pig doesn't need any lipstick.
  2. Thanks Joe. Judging by your profile pic, your beaut is in pretty good condition as well. My car photographs well, but could really use new paint, and stainless repair. I'm in a constant state or chrome envy. My Goat is the Greatest Of All Time. He wards off Gremlins.
  3. I've hit 95 once....I wonder what RPM it was turning...best to not think about it.
  4. Thanks! I'm missing the Dodge lettering.
  5. My car has 373s and 60 is no problem, 70 is fine. It really starts to sing around 80.
  6. Here are some pics of the 50 at a car show today. My new (to me) visor is installed with colour matched paint. I didn't bodywork it. Just hammered out the dents and straightened it. It is a five piece unit. To make it rigid, I fabbed up some spanner brackets to tie everything together. I've hit good speed with no issue. But I did notice the mirror shakes a little now.
  7. Small diameter rope tends to cut the rubber. I've always used 1/4" rope. Same stuff used for lawn mower pull starts.
  8. The rubber goes on the glass. Then the entire thing is installed onto the pinchweld with a rope...
  9. I think Keith is onto something. Because the shoes pivot from one end, in one direction they will self energize, and the other not. I've had the problem before, when reversing and hitting the brakes, something would shift so that when I went forward I would hear a scraping noise. At that point I'd jab the brakes hard, it would kind of clunk, and then be fine again. I found a good accurate brake adjustment fixed the issue.
  10. I use synchromesh. It is a GL3
  11. Are you sure? I thought the restrictor was there to prevent a drop in oil pressure. When I salvaged my oil filter system it was plumbed with the restrictor on the filter. EDIT I just took a look and it is as Dodgeb4ya said. Small hole on the gauge.
  12. The reverse light switch is triggered by the shift rod in the transmission. When you put it in reverse, the shift fork and rod slide over, if the hole was there, you would see the rod at that point. So I will say yes, you can drill and tap the hole. The differences in transmissions throught the years are minor. They designed your trans with a reverse switch in mind.
  13. That is the reverse light switch I believe.
  14. I like to call new parts "replicas". They are often made to look the same, but that's where the similarities end. Like suspension pivots and king pins. They look right, but are made of cheese grade material. Probably due to a lack of nickel in the metal.
  15. Someone else mention in another thread, that the rear wheel bearings often go unchecked. Well I finally started to do research when I noticed a noise coming from them at low speed. I should've pulled the plugs and pumped some grease in, and I still will. But, I need to source new bearings and seals, sooner than later. I'll trying to track down koyo bearings and skf seals, then I'll report on my findings. Any tip or trick on replacing them, let me know. Thanks.
  16. In my experience, rod knock shows up first when the engine is hot and oil is thin. Perhaps the sound you're hearing is exhaust or a belt. Something rattling as it's shaking to life.
  17. You probably need a speedi sleeve. I just did my 3 speed. It took an SKF 15620 seal and 99156 sleeve. I also put the right stuff on the splines to prevent oil from wicking out.
  18. My theory behind the ban was to make it easier for the gov to spy on you through your walls....
  19. Sometimes old parts are better than new. The tough break was that dang snap ring. I must has installed it incorrectly.
  20. That's exactly what I will be doing. I need a break anyways. But how long can I live with a crunchy double clutched third will be the decider.
  21. Well guys.....disaster hit. I took the car out and everything was great. Then all of a sudden, I couldn't get it into 2nd. I pulled it into a gas station and put it into first. With a crunchy bang something released and I had second again. I went straight home. As I pulled in, it made a weird wurling sound and came to a stop without brakes. It was binding up. I dropped the oil and a gold glitter bomb went off inside. So, I pulled the tranmission again....turns out, it tossed the rear main shaft bearing snap ring out. The whole shaft walked forward and whiped out third gear synchro and the pocket bearing. I can't imagine how a snap ring could do that unless a gremlin got into my shop, or I mucked up installing it. I blame the gremlin...So I pulled it down and went about rebuilding it again. I used green bearing retainer on the rear bearing and snap ring, I laughed like a mad man while doing it. So, now the good synchro was toast. And while the spares look good. They just done bite the same. Well sure enough, I have it all back together but I need to double clutch third. After this weekend, I'm ready to drive it off a cliff. This is the kind of thing that makes people sell there cars. I don't understand why the donor synchros suck. My only guess is that they are after market. I will be pulling it a third time to try to get third to work better. I bet the whiped out synchro would still work better then the donor. Part of me hopes it will get better with time, the other part knows that's wishful thinking.
  22. Thanks! I'm sure you know all about these things.
  23. It's negligible. Whoever had my car before me, thought the oil gauge went in that hole....needless to say, I had to massage the oil pressure gauge back into shape.
  24. I second VHT! It's designed for this kind of application. Very High Temp.
  25. Here are a few pics of my fan shroud. It was incredibly tight to install, and hard to photogragh. I made the main body of it that covers the whole rad. Then I put it all in place and marked the center of the fan. Took it back out and cut the hole. I used the bead roller at work to add a 90 around the hole. Then I made the shroud part as a clam shell. The lower part is fixed to the body, the top half is removeable. This is a long block in a short car. So basically the worse case senario. I don't have a before and after of the temp since my factory gauge was the real problem. However, it did bring a lot of confidence.
