    Oil

I have worked for the two largest nationwide homeowner/construction equipment rental companies in the US. Both ran the same diesel spec-ed motor oil in everything. From the cars/trucks/lawnmowers/ D-10 dozers/ delivery lowboy diesel trucks/service trucks. 10-40wt oil for all. Where is the problem? As often said before -to each his own. DJ
  2. I worked on a friends 47 Plymouth that had several head studs (replaced the bolts on the Alum. head motor) that kept leaking coolant. One of which collected in a spark plug well. Finally removed the offending studs, wrapped them with cotton string on the lower threads, coated the string with Permatex aviation gasket sealer. After reinstall and torquing-leaks were Finally gone. Has been well over a year now, all good. Head Bolts can and will do the same. Do not jump to the cracked head/block diagnosis just yet. Remove the head bolts adjacent to leak area (spark plug) and try resealing bolts and a re -torque of those bolts and another re-torque of all head bolts when warmed up. Oh ya, you may want to lower the coolant level below the head Before trying this. Saves a mess on the motor/floor! ? DJ
  3. Really, my response was just a "hunch"? I have not had a car with a voltage regulator as yours since I was ? 17 YO. Too many years past. Probably something I have read on this forum from others still using the stock type charge system. I'm one of the weird-O's that prefers 12 volt and 1 wire alternators. Sorry, DJ
  4. Red- - -Red for the Morris motor! ? MY vote, but it's yours- DJ
  5. Single muffler and outlet exhaust pipe on the V-8? DJ
  6. Put your hand on the voltage regulator as you remove the Cable from battery, could be the points of the regulator opening as you are disconnecting power to the regulator when disconnecting. You should be able to feel the click. 1 easy check, The spark at the battery indicates something drawing power if the Ignition is off and no accessories are on, (door open? interior light on?) when it is disconnected. DJ
  7. Loved the Crank out AC in my 37 Plymouth! That is flat out beautiful! DJ
  8. Just don't not over use it and wear the tool out! Where to send it off for a rebuilding?? ? DJ
  9. Then you will have a brand new just off the showroom car! Then you can tell the people looking at it that is NOS! ? DJ
  10. Now That is a request for parts for sale, Quite clear?
  11. If your search on U-Tube for: electric power steering conversation-How to's, there are at least two that document doing the conversation that retains the original steer column and the column shifter. Not on Mopars however, but the methods are the same. BTW, it is a drawn out process especially if also wanting to retain the original steer wheel and horn function as original but parts pieces are available in the aftermarket with some searching. I researched this for a while while seeing if a friend with a 47 Ply. Bus, Cpe. would like to do this change. If I could have done the work he may have gone for it but physically I could not and he was unwilling to be the Grunt labor! ? DJ
  12. It would be best for you to read the factory install methods as to method they recommend as it Not the same as other Mopar years/brands especially when the chrome trim is part of the install. I know that it certainly is for a rear glass on a 50 Plymouth. One opinion, DJ
  13. Concept car just waiting for someone to build/restore one. Combo Charger/Viper Who wants to be the first?
  14. So- if not done by you does this still apply? See attached- restored? Paul?
  15. Only in ? would anyone want to be seen driving this . Must be in Afghanistan. Otherwise I would not even guess! Improvised bomb? DJ
  16. Well your year of car should not have a manual choke. That is the problem. Should be automatic type. Not sure myself of type choke mounting as I have only owned 1950 models. They (1950 Plymouths, other Mopars used them earlier) had the Sisson choke that mounted on the exhaust manifold and have a rod up to the carb. to operate choke butterfly. Your choice modify the heater duct or change carbs and choke type. DJ
  17. Nay, a Jeep with what appears to be a GMC. Good thing he made it off the freeway where he was doing 70 mph! ? DJ
  18. I also think these 2 are the same. Buying them off EBAY is cheaper (free ship) however because Bernbaums direct purchase has a minimum flat $24 or $25 shipping (poor even short term memory) . Ok if buying something heavier or many parts but two rubber pieces? I have purchased parts thru other Co.s just because of their shipping charge. DJ
  19. Parts used by a former forum member, with these perhaps you can do a web search for pictures using the part #'s listed? Also check his website where his rebuild of a old mopar is documented . Very interesting! http://www.oldwillysforum.com/Plymouth/02-hom/home.html DJ
  20. I talked to a well established shop about spray welding worn areas of shafts etc. and he experience was all bad -pretty much all jobs became comebacks-IE not good. Sold the spray welding machine to someone else. So he went back to the old ways. Turn the shaft down and make or purchase a piece of steel to repair, heat and press on to get back within specs as he had done previously-No comebacks! Cheating did not hold up! Just what I heard. DJ
  21. Look for "zerk grease fittings". DJ
  22. Search on this forum for "spin on oil filters " or just "adding a filter" should bring up what Many other have done. Many came with no filter and people wanted to add one and keep it simple. Factory added filters with spin on filter late in the production years, almost all Industrial Flat sixes had them. Used to work on many old Mopar flat 6's in the 70's-80's in forklifts with the spin on filter! DJ
  23. Any auto part storse carries most available sizes. Online check of local stores? DJ
  24. Volkswagen built a big (for them) 4 dr. sedan with another co's 5 cylinder inline 5 (audi?) somewhere back in the late 70's early 80's (not sure, I worked briefly as a car salesman for Chrysler Dodge, VW dealership) and I really just as soon forget being a car salesman!. ? We had one 5 cyl. vehicle that was a demo over 1-1/12 years old that they finally got rid of while I was there! DJ
  25. Man checking prices on your favorite plug online are all over from $2 to $4. Ebay price seems to be lowest $15 for 6 shipped, from Maine, 5 day to Calif. from Maine-Not bad. $2 from NGK direct online but-shipping? Also works in some lawnmowers- - -? DJ
