  7. http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/images/pic01_brakefacts.gif This is the simplest explanation I have found.
  8. Neat picture. Lucky you for sure.
  9. Nice pic. thanks for sharing.
  10. Wow! Rough start to the trip. Hopefully all will be ok now.
  11. Greg, Have a safe and fun trip. looking forward to hearing about it.......Tim
  12. Have you tried to put it in first or reverse at the transmission itself? If it will engage there it is probably a linkage issue. Condition of motor mounts is important here.
  13. Good news, I'm glad you stuck with it.
  14. The '64 Plymouths are nice cars and that is a sharp example. The '64 Sport fury with a big block and four speed is one of my dream cars.
  15. In todays marketing world they would just use a vinyl wrap to get that effect. That is a cool car.
  16. Possibly damaged the contacts in the starter solenoid (relay) when the starter was binding and drawing excessive current. If the contacts burnt they may now have enough resistance that they won't transfer enough current to run the starter. Hard to diagnose from afar but I would look at the relay if the starter runs ok on the bench. Any plan for what to do about the depth issue?
  17. If it were me, I would try shimming the starter back from the bell-housing with some washers as Greg suggested. If this alleviates the problem you can then decide whether to pull the flywheel and inspect it and the crank flange or make a permanent spacer for the starter. In the picture you posted both starters appear to have the same snout length. Keep us posted.
  18. Been there several times. Mostly muscle car oriented but I have found some parts there. I like muscle car era cars too though. Not sure if I will make it this year or not.
  19. That pickup and '63 Fury make a nice pair.
  20. Could be the thickness of the crank flange on the 230 and the 218 bellhousing don't work well together.
  21. Are you using the same flywheel? I have read their are different tooth counts on some of the ring gears. Also, some of the crank shaft flanges are of different thicknesses which could cause some binding. Sounds like the starter is binding it up for whatever reason.
  22. I don't know whether to laugh or cry because I have been there too.
  23. I got some hard to find brake parts for my '41 Dodge from these guys, http://www.hagensautoparts.com/catalog/
  24. Very interesting. Thanks for posting that.
