  1. Congratulations!
  2. Thanks for all the comments. Photoshopping the colors has been fun. I downloaded a free editor called Gimp and it works well. I like the yellow and tan more than I thought I would. The red keeps growing on me. Not a big deal, it is only paint. Probably change up the color now and then just for something different. I haven't got them balanced yet so I have to take them back off for awhile anyway. I agree Don the gold on your hubs looks much better than the red on your car.
  3. Cool toys. I like 'em.
  4. Great site, I bookmarked it.
  5. Thanks guys, keep the ideas coming. I am not very visionary on this stuff so I like the suggestions. Here are a couple more. Tan [/img] Light Blue Yellow
  6. I bought new wheels and tires for my '41 Dodge. They are 6.70-15 and my old ones were 6.00-16 so I had to go with a new hubcap combo as well. I bought full moon hubcaps and painted the exposed part of the wheels red because there is a small amount of red on the trim of the car and the old caps had some red on them. [/img] I think they look too dark so I photoshopped the pic with the wheel painted white. I hate to paint but I think I like the white a lot better. What do you guys think? I wanted something that didn't make the Dodge's butt look big, but decided that was impossible.....Thanks, Tim [/img]
  7. Greg, I agree on the 5lb. fluctuation. If it fluctuates it is too low. By the way, I think your signature line says it all and I have taken to quoting it quite a bit lately.
  8. Congrats! Glad you enjoyed it and the car performed so well.
  9. I don't even think of it as running low anymore. It is just normal to pull the stick and see the level at that mark. Someday when and if I ever completely rebuild one of these things I will have to retrain myself to keep it full.
  10. When I got my car over 20 years ago my Dad told me to not be afraid to run it a quart low on oil. He told me he had several of these flatheads in the day and if he filled them to full on the dipstick they would use a quart very quickly but then use sparingly after that. Both my original 218 and current 230 hold true to that. I keep them just above the add mark and check it every time I drive it. It burns a little (gives a puff of blue when accelerating after coasting down hill), leaks a little too, but if I fill it to the full mark it uses it up quicker than if I keep it a quart low. Has worked for me all these years. If you try it you have to monitor your oil level closely because you won't have as much of a buffer before it goes low.
  11. I have no problem with the original driveshaft as far as performance. They are strong and durable. The issue to me is the maintenance on the dust boots and the cost of replacement ball and trunnion joints. On my car I made an adapter to make the shaft reach the new rear I installed. When my shaft needs repair next I think I will invest in a new shaft like Jim had made rather than spend the money on the old style joints and boots. Plus I can then get rid of my home-made adapter.
  12. I have a stethoscope but have diagnosed many a problem with a broomstick. Still do when it isn't in a spot I want to get close enough to use the stethoscope.
  13. Nice find! I hope that was it.Sounds like it may be.
  14. Looks good. I have one of those on my wish list.
  15. Welcome to the forum. Try this link to a thread on the HAMB. I believe Joel rebuilt his rockers in the thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=346922
  16. Good eye, for some reason the pic we took of that one didn't turn out. Here is the link to the rest of the pics. http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f144/oldodge/Cruise-ins%207_30_11/
  17. That is the only pic I have of the '54 . If I see it around again I will get a few more of the Continental kit and visor. It was a nice car.
  18. My wife and I took in two cruise-ins yesterday with our D-19. The first was Bud Garveys Racing reunion and Cruise-In in Osceola Mills, PA. Well over 300 cars/trucks/racecars of every configuration imaginable. Then we went to the All Mopar Cruise-in at The Clearfield, PA. Elementary School. Not a big turnout, maybe 50 or so cars. Not alot of old Mopars either place but an enjoyable day driving around in the old car. Here are a couple pics.
  19. Looks good and sounds like a nice package.
  20. Congrats Moose. I am virtually enjoying that cigar as I type.
  21. When my original agent retired I was "assigned" a new agent by the company. I didn't like his location. It wasn't convenient for me. I had to petition to have another local agent. The new agent looked at my policy and asked me why I had certain things. I told him my old agent said that is the way the company worked and I had no choice. He made some changes and saved me some money. Stuck with him until he passed away unexpectedly. The new agent I was assigned to went to singing the company only does it one way song and raising prices so I left. I did deal directly with the company for awhile between agents the first time with no issues. When I notified them I was leaving after 30 years no-one even asked why. I think that said it all. Was a tough decision for me as I felt we had a loyal relationship. Apparently that was only one way, so I moved my homeowners as well. I don't recommend any one insurance company over another but I would make sure you have an agent you can trust to be "on your side". Pun intended.
  22. Insurance and exhaust are the two worst parts of the car hobby. I had Nationwide for 30 years. No problems until my agent died and my rates started going up with the new guy every time I got a renewal. Switched to Liberty Mutual a couple years ago. I get a discount thru my employer that makes them a lot cheaper. For years I stayed loyal to a company that had no loyalty to me. Turns out they are only as good as their agent. Imagine that, the human element still matters.
  23. Thanks for the link. I am always impressed by the clay mock-ups. The guys in the paint booth with the rag respirators probably didn't live to old age. To me those pictures show proud Americans working hard, earning a living. They probably went home tired, and satisfied.
  24. Looks real good! We always called those wheels "Aluminum Slots". One of my favorite wheels. How do you like the Explorer rear?
  25. All the best to both of you.
