  1. From AllPar. Looks like five when I zoom on the firetruck too.
  2. I think you used to be able to rent a similar hitch from u-haul and other places back in the day. I remember placing a piece of innertube behind ours to help prevent slipping and scratching. Bumper hitches were fairly common around here, mostly bolt on if they were permanently mounted. I'll bet Dad's is still around somewhere.
  3. Love the look!
  4. Dad had one like that in the 70's. We actually used it and a tow bar to tow many a car. We clamped it on several 60's vintage cars to tow with. Everything from a 65 Satellite to a 70 New Yorker and towed everything from an English Ford Anglia to a Thunderbird.
  5. Very nice machines. Thanks for sharing.
  6. There are a few of those around here, still working at VFD's as well.
  7. Check this thread. A search for "Polarize" will bring up a lot of info. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=26276&referrerid=7217
  8. Good thinking! I love this kind of ingenuity. And nice craftsmanship as well.
  9. Here is mine last fall in font of a church and where it has spent most of its time this year, in the garage, because it just keeps raining. And the "as found" pic from 1990. I like the way RobertKB showed before and after. Decided to join in.
  10. I like the fifties cars too. That is a fine example. Good eye Rodney.
  11. Nice pics everyone
  12. Yes, it was there when I got the engine, wasn't leaking so I left it alone. Been 20 years and it's still not leaking. My motto is, If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. Funny when I first got it I was constantly watching it for leaks. Hadn't thought about it for years until I took that pic. Wondered who would be first to notice it.
  13. I want them all! The '41 Dodge would make a good stable mate for my coupe. I think I would go for the '53 though and then I would have a 40's, 50's and 60's example. Starting to sound like a collection goal. Hmmmmm
  14. The D24 in my car has no tube either.
  15. U haul has a website that lists prices, availability, capacities, etc. I looked at a local rental for a car trailer for a weekend and was surprised how reasonable it was. Long distance one way I never priced. Sounds like a great adventure. http://www.uhaul.com/
  16. I believe the FD negated some of that jump because of the inherent slip in the unit. Now I can get up to speed much quicker because I don't shift twice in the first 20 yards and the FD hooks up and allows me to accelerate harder without the slippage it had due to the quicker rpm rise. These motors have the torque to run very relaxed at a very low rpm. I never run much above 60 mph in the old girl anyway but more HP is always a good thing. I would love to have a 25" motor to do a rebuild on and add some bolt on hp parts but due to the distributor to steering box clearance issue (and the fact I don't have a 25" motor) I will probably do a 230 when the time comes. I may experiment with a 3.55 or 3.73 in the future also.
  17. My '41 Dodge has a '48 230 coupled to fluid drive and three speed. With the original differential (4.11) it was pretty slow off the line. Even worse with the sick 218 I cobbled together when I first got the car running. First gear was pretty much optional in any situation. Now I am running a 3.27 rear differential and I like it better. No race car by any means but more respectable. I can still start in any gear but it prefers first. I have driven a couple old flathead Dodge trucks with three speed transmissions and I believe they were about the same off the line as my old setup but they were probably geared lower yet. I do feel the fluid drive work now if I shift up too soon. Would not want to try these gears without the fluid drive. I think it would eat clutches.
  18. Welcome and keep us posted on your progress.
  19. That picture is something your family can cherish for generations. Nice job!
  20. Tommy, hang in there with your family. Time heals things. Lean on your forum friends and rant as necessary.
  21. Joe, I understand your reasoning completely. I have a practical wife as well. For some strange reason she thinks 2 antiques, a pickup truck, street bike and two daily driver cars are enough for the two of us. Ok, I understand her thinking, but, when my daughter is home from college we increase the amount of drivers in the house by 50%. That is at least 2.5 more cars in my opinion. Shhh, here she comes...........
  22. Congrats Chet. that is a great looking machine.
  23. My boss always says, "If you don't set a schedule, you will never reach a goal." Not sure I always agree but it is good to see you have set a goal and are working towards it. good luck and keep us posted.
  24. Welcome Dirk, your english is a ton better than my German. Glad to have you aboard.......Tim
