  1. Real nice pics guys. Nice to see some are getting out and about...........Tim
  2. I know I have seen one of those hex signs around here somewhere..........Tim
  3. I had an issue with "sometimes" having to do one pump to get a full pedal and other times it was fine. I believe it was caused by the residual valve in the master cylinder not sealing to keep the 10lbs of pressure on the wheel cylinders. When I was bleeding I noticed if I broke the bleeder it didn't spurt out any fluid unless pressure was being applied to the pedal. I replaced the valve and the issue was gone............Tim
  4. Try swapping the plugs with a couple of the ones that are firing just in case it is a case of bad plugs...........Tim
  5. Greg, I agree completely. Given the way I use my '41 I think any of the pictured mounts would work. I was talking only of theory and extreme conditions that could explain a broken shock mount and the reasoning behind what looks like over-engineering of a simple piece. Time to go dream of rebound dampening and compression. Good night guys.........Tim
  6. Welcome, looking forward to some pics of your car..........Tim
  7. Greg, velocity-sensitive is a great descriptor for what I was trying to describe. What I am getting at is if the ability of the fluid to escape through the valving quickly enough due to excessive compression velocity is exceeded momentarily the shock could become rigid for a moment. For that moment extreme forces would be placed on the mounts as well as the shock housing itself. The weakest link in the chain would eventually fail, probably a shock mount. Alshere59, I always thought the mount breakage is most likely on the compression stroke of the shock due to the above description, but I also believe the most important function of the shock absorber is rebound dampening. The spring should control the compression of the suspension and the shock should control the rebound to normal ride height, Not enough rebound dampening and the suspension could theoretically over travel on the up stroke as well. Less likely though due to the weight of the vehicle. This would also use the shock mounts to stop travel. Like you, I love threads like this.............Tim
  8. I also agree that a shock can be compressed fairly easily by arm strength. What I am not sure of is what happens when that compressing motion is much quicker than my arm motion. For instance over a dirt road or pothole riddled Pennsylvania highway? Only so much fluid can move through the valving in the shock during a given period of time. Could this not possibly cause momentary forces greatly larger than normal to be placed against the shock mounts? Not arguing here, just wondering out loud. I have seen some broken shock mounts that obviously I could not break with my arm strength. What do you guys think? Am I way off base in my thinking?.............Tim
  9. Very nice, Thanks!....................Tim
  10. We have the Carlisle swap meets and the Hershey meet that always have some Mopar stuff. Not near as much as the other brands though. The most productive for me has been the Chryslers at Carlisle meet that is all Mopar. The majority is muscle car stuff but I have found old flathead era stuff there as well. At least it is all Mopar.
  11. When my Dad had his '48 Chrysler coupe he always told me he wished it had a "Highlander" interior. He described it to me and I thought I liked his burgundy color better until I saw this. Now I know what he meant. That is a beautiful combination.................Tim
  12. I like them on others cars. If I had a car with one I wouldn't take it off, but I wouldn't invest much to obtain one either.............Tim.
  13. Joe, over the years my ammeter has done that a couple times, usually after it has sat for an extended time. Each time a couple "taps" on the generator with a brass hammer has settled it right down. I suspect my brushes hang up a little and the taps loosen them up.................Tim
  14. Who needs seats? Vroom vroom sounds can be made at any stage of a project........Tim
  15. Looking good Joe, I think that is going to turn out great. That piece polished up real nice...............Tim
  16. Congrats on the purchase. Stick around here, there are folks willing and able to answer just about any questions you may have. Welcome to the forum.......Tim
  17. A Ford won the race but the pace car was a Plymouth in 1965! I believe that was Fords first 500 win too..............Tim
  18. That is a cool site. I love a good jigsaw puzzle............Tim
  19. That is a great and well deserved grin for sure..............Tim
  20. How about your point gap and ignition timing? They can cause rpm related issues.
  21. When I replaced the 218 in my '41 with a 230 from a '48 the temp gauge bulb from the '41 was too large for the hole in the '48 head. I used the '41 head on the '48 block because of this. I did have an aftermarket gauge that worked on the '48 head but the original would not................Tim
