    Covid

Update: our son is now definitely on the upward line, has been down, mostly fatuous for 12 days now. Yesterday his son, age 16 tested positive, so we try to live very carefully. My wife and I tested negative, I was more negative than she.
  2. Is the BBQ still on schedule? I hope so.

    Covid

Got positive tested covid in the family. Appears to be a mild, fatigue case. Doing all we can to keep things sanitized and not let it spread. our son has been fully isolated so, we may have a chance. how are others faring?
  4. Several years ago I rode with a friend to the California BBQ. He had a very nice 47 Plymouth. On the way home, the engine did just as you describe. It would run great the slowly lose power and finally quit. After stopping band tinkering, it revived. By coincidence, it was discovered that the top bolts of the carburator bowl were loose enough to let the gas evaporate. Tightened those four bolts and “bobs your uncle” problem solved. Those bolts need good lock washers. I hope this helps.
  5. Just be very careful. I would never do it again. Mine fell against the wall. I wasn’t close by, but be warned, the fall while in apparent slow motion, is FAST and silent.
  6. A friends amp gauge constantly flickers +- - . And he has a small park when battery cable is attached. The spark means something is grounde, awireor??? Yet the engine starts and runs and all else works. So what can cause that gauge to flicker?
  7. Seems you should not have painted that shaft! Just a suggestion. Mine is nice and clean.
  8. I got tired of the three on the tree so fabricated a floor shifter. The shifter movement from R - 1 and 2nd to 3rd is only 4.5 inches, quick and simple!
  9. Does your car have a fresh air heater? I enjoy your significant use of that old sedan!
  10. Since I have two, May put one on my shifter console. The plywood piece is a workable prototype, once road tested will fab one that covers the entire tunnel out of metal.
  11. Items mentioned, wish I had the third piece.
  12. Top one I believe is interior ‘ 53/54. Is the bottom one exterior?
  13. tail light challenge resolved, Restarted the engine yesterday, getting ready to test drive today. taillight designs. In 1946 Dad bought a new Chevrolet sedan, it had a rear windshield wiper, under the seat heater, and backup lights. The backup lights were not part of the taillights. There were no cars from 1943 through 1945 because of WWII. Many of you weren’t around then. Gasoline, tires, flour, sugar, and other war needed items were rationed. No one complained! Question: did the taillight/ backup combo start in 1953?
  14. Dave, wasn't Australia originally populated with prisoners by the Mother country? So returning to colonial days? LOL
  15. A couple of items since I last posted. As noted, I repainted the dash looks better with the exterior, I’ve aligned the hood also, since this photo. I need those park lights, seem hard to find.
  16. My age has caught up with me, much slower but wrenching most days. Suburban is about ready, little tine wasting items. Like the tail lights, all are NOT same, so a lot of time wasted until I remove them and found why one would not receive the bulb unit. Removing and replacing the ‘53/54 taillights is a tediously, tight task.
  17. This BBQ is an open borders event. But the above photo proves it does not always enforce social distancing nor masks !
  18. Bought these. Did not know these slim fins existed. Bought them from Canadian seller! Are these Canadian only early back?
  19. The dash, in progress. Interior details remain. Time takers.
  20. So, what have you decided? Want a suburban that is 95% done with all the upgrades you want? I have one.
  21. I never trust any Jack or small hoist. I always use Jack stands. I also give the vehicle a GOOD shake to settle in the Jack heads. What concerns me is cats!
  22. Brent, us left coast folk have 1:40 left, happy new year to you, your lovely wife and all still alert on the forum.
  23. My interest is hobby related and the sound of the flathead engine. Additionally the discussions with interested people. What I have learned and the people I’m now in touch with are priceless.. my one limiting fastir is my age. It has significantly caught up with me!
  24. Keith, what gas mileage do you get with that great car?
  25. Update. You all know it takes a lot of time and work to get this far. Still have some trim to attach.
