  5. Restarted my suburban so to go for a drive. Noticed there was no pressure on the oil gauge, so shut down the engine. Oil leak at the connection to the gauge.! Not good, now I have oil in my dash harness, not bad, but any is bad. question: how do I clean out that oil? Rats, was all set up to take a serious test drive!

  7. Since the overdrive I an “addition “ to a standard transmission, and since I have a standard three speed, I wonder if the r11 will attach! Too busy working to finish the Suburban now, but later, maybe.

  9. Well, here are the answers to the above questions. Both of these are mine. The r10 is sold. The r11 is a large transmission for the straight 8 cars. I do not recall where I got it. But will sell it.
  10. Question: Do these interchange? Can I remove an r10 and install an r11 bolt for bolt?
  11. Keith, very close to what I did. I softly forced the against the shoes, to get marks. Then I used those marks as my first guide. My tool set just below the mark, then readjusted til the shoes were consistent. I put a film of grease on the axle, then slightly cleaned it off to relieve that friction so I could feel the shoes. Worked nicely.
  12. On my ‘53 Plymouth I studied how these brakes work, top and bottom adjustments. Nice. BUT you cannot adjust those shoes with the drums OFF. Thus the need for a tool to set them a tad smaller than the drum that they will serve. It took me two hours to do the firs, learning curve shoe/drum. It took 30 minutes to do the second.

  18. History question: I’m sure to produce such cars, special presses had to be made for fenders, body structure pieces, etc., and special mills for engine, transmissions , etc., . That said, did these manufacturers do a great deal of parts sharing or build from generic parts manufacturers? it must have been a wild time for mfr speculation. .
  19. Or maybe warm a sample to thin it, then pour it through a paint strainer?
  20. My dad bought me a ‘50 Plymouth Fast back without my knowledge, After highschool. I was mad at first but learned to like that car. Now without checking anything, my bro and i drive it to California and back, never worried about the engine. So with that, beyond compression testing, temp in various situations , and oil pressure is there any way to determine the condition of an engine without opening it up?
