    V8 swap

What is the easiest mopar V8 swap into a 53 Plymouth?
  2. Mr. Gasket. Best to mount on the frame, but best if cushioned.
  3. That is where mine is. At 83, dont like to work under the vehicles anymore. Sky hooks are not readily available.
  4. I’m going back to the mechanical pump. Been running an electrical pump on my truck, but if it does not get fluid in a few seconds it burns out. I will put up with the mechanical challenges, I’m in calif so the mild climate and my cars always in the shop or garage may be a benefit. Also , to run an electrical pump safely, one needs an oil pressure cut off valve so the pump wont work after an accident.
  5. How did you get the CHP to come to your house to get you a vin number?
  6. Made a tool to adjust the carb float. Very easy to use, the screws are at 5/32”s, it is not easy for me to read numbers under the hood, this eliminates that. If the wood bar lifts, the float is too high.
  7. Modern engine filters clean all the oil all the time, maybe the diesel one is different. I may be in error, but just don’t like the clutter by the engine.. JMPO
  8. Years back Greybeard, since passed on, helped me repair and start my first engine, the 218 flathead. I asked about the oil filter. He said to leave if off, it didn't ‘do enough to bother with it’. He taught high school mechanics so was quite knowledgeable and a VERY nice guy. So now I have three of those on my parts shelf.
  9. I have a shifter for an R!0 roughly fabricated to work but not to show. But since i dont have an over drive in my suburban and no other car tp put it one, will not take the time to refine it. LIke you, I now live a life of manitanence. I go to the shop maybe several times a week now. Maybe time will heal the Lyme infection. Can only wait that outl. Paul
  10. In the past I toyed with the floor shifter. The design shown will not work on an R 10 overdrive transmission. What I wanted was for an R 10. My last attempt exists but is not tricked out and has not been road tested. I’m fighting old age and lyme infection so not pursuing much these days. It is an interesting study though.
  11. Have you taken Doxycycline? A doctor in Maine put me on that. Two pills for 28 days. My basic issues now are fatigue, when it hits I’m finished, nap time, Difficulty doing complicated tasks such as electrical wiring, and problem solving, weak leges and balance. I’m only 7 months into the infection and hopeful that i may come out at 90 % by summer, but there are no quarantines on that. Thanks for sharing, let’s keep in touch. Paul
  12. The longer Lyme goes untreated, the worse its effects. I went to urgent care for a cortisone shot in my knee, the nurse saw a red rash on my arm and automatically treated me for possible lyme. When we got home we found the bulls eyed mark on my shoulder. Lyme longevity is unknown, it can reappear years after first infection is ‘overcome’. Not good!
  13. Los, have you been tested for lyme infection? It is a very elusive infection. I certainly wish you get control as well. I am told I just have to wait it out for now, maybe a year plus. I can function, just not very fast nor very long. The upside for me is that i have very little discomfort, some muscle aches at times. Nothing sustained. Maybe I have just lived too long.
  14. UPDATE: was bit in early June, found out in 10 days, lucky, immediately on meds. Now seven months later, still major fatigue, brain fog, weak legs, very difficult to work sequential problem like electrical wiring, very hard, even engine startup, etc. Any one have similar experience. If so, suggestions are always welcome. Now trying to restart my suburban so I can obviously get it legal and drive it. Once cleaned up a bit, will sell it. Probably this spring.
  15. And Brent has a fantastic copilot. I’m returning this year with my suburban. May pitch a tent and stay a while, great place for a respite for my lyme infection. Nice clean air and open spaces. I will be bringing a trailer full of mopar parts, I’m downsizing, so the prices will be chartable.
  16. Sorry, i cannot answer your question, but I would not install that on my car. I cant see how that upright bowl will collect any sentiment. I think you received the wrong pump. JMHO
  17. What is required to mount an r11 BW transmission behind a 218 mopar engine?
  18. I have a switch and start button on my suburban. It is very helpful. It won’t work if the ignition key is off. When I leave the car, I disconnect the battery. Just a safety action, dont have any more cats to burn down this shop.
  19. Since you like the manual as I do, I m going to sell the two I have.
  20. I have two such chokes. Which is preferred, the automatic choke or a manual choke How dependable are the automatics?
  21. We all like vehicles with wheels, we grew up on tricycles and plastic Big Wheels. So show us your bicycles. Stock or otherwise.
  22. Serial number is D98798. A bulb remains in the lamp, will put batteries in and check if it works. If anyone on the forum collects bikes, I will sell it to them. For me its a fun piece, to another a part of a collection which I respect.
  23. What is a skip link. I believe i did, serial number. Will recheck, memory not so good these days,, lyme brain fog remains.
  24. I’m interested in those parts Just to have it complete. I has the original pint and markings, but its so old lt refuses to accept a shine. Even so, I would repaint it. Will likely put a bike mount on tghe front of my 52 Dodge truck and carry it as a conversation piece. TKS for responding. Its a crazy hobby. Last week I bought a two wheel trailer, cut off of a 52 Dodge truc,k, the bed sides do not have one dent and the tail gate is perfect. Paid $50 for it.
  25. Last spring i bought a 1947 Swinn bike. Needs the rear fender and half of the front fender headlight. Paid $75 for it. Not a collector but since it was a Schwin i went for it. Kids rode it, said it rode great.
