  1. you would think their listing under make and model would have the correct voltage unit listed.....my post was just to alert the wrong listing....good post on the correct voltage solenoid...
  2. the solenoid listed for the 48 Dodge on rock is 12 volts....amperage issues could be involved including clamping power of the secondary contacts when energized with 6 volts...
  3. It was just a suggestion that if you were going to continue messing with the older cars that troubleshooting techniques be applied first to ascertain the needs/problem....even if you choose to buy new over rebuild yourself...at least you should know what you are spending your money on will fix the real problem. I have too many cars in my stable and thus my money I try to spend more wisely, correct calls on failed components save not only money but time invested. Both resources I try to spread out the best I can allowing me to do more for less.
  4. it is not so much the cost as it is the need and utilizing proper troubleshooting techniques.....well at least that is the way I look at things....
  5. before you just arbitrary replace the master....I think a visual would be in order....unless you just happen to have money to burn then SHUT MY MOUTH...!!!!
  6. IF the master is not returning past the bleed hole and relieving the line pressure...the brakes usually stay on to some degree....now the master could not be returning due to trash/rust behind the piston and even a brake shoe can cause similar issues of not fully returning for the same reason...rust ring in the cylinder.....
  7. sure miss this scene....being in the south the change is so ever gradual there are no real highlights at all....enjoy....bit envious of the scenic beauty...
  8. by design these worked very well 60 years ago and will work again when 60 years of rust/corrosion is corrected and good connections established. Dedicated grounds is a plus and recommended but I do not see a need to go all the way back to the battery for this.
  9. sorry.......right post.....wrong thread...
  10. unfortunately if you do not do your own work on these cars many things quickly can push it into the Beyond Economical Repair regions. Sad part is even the at home novice following his book has as good and maybe better chance of long lasting repair than some of these repair shops. Their guarantee ends when it leaves the lot as nothing is their fault and there is so many factors that they can blame for their failure.
  11. indexing the pump is often not cross linked to the distributor in the books....only the later book will make reference to the 7 position.....but I agree with the fact there should be a line in the sand for this....if all were established by a book protocol there would be less guess by others when they encounter a car that seemingy will not time out right...less chance of someone calling foul and jumped timing chain....
  12. to get the slot at the 7-1 alignment angle...you will need to index your oil pump as it is the pump that orients to the camshaft gear and eventually drives the distributor...the manner to index the oil pump to insert on the cam and attain this position is described in the manual...you need to index the pump gear as it inserts and align to the cut of the cam gear the oil pump shaft will rotate just a tad...
  13. guess that is one reason I do not see much of this activity...I avoid facebook and google like the plague it is....and yes Yahoo also tract and tailors....
  14. yeah, old car owners are not dead, they just smell that way normally.

  17. got a couple minutes to work a bit on the Austin.....engine in...most all topside work done....next work I need to put it on one of the lifts....
  18. been awhile since I seen a Vincent.....as for readheads....not allowed to take them out.....
  19. those flux things were outlawed....too many sonic booms.....
  20. like most things new, they don't last if not broken in correctly....
  21. full disc caps......ooooooooooooooooooooh!! 50/50/50 buying plan................50.00 down 50.00 a week for 50 years....
  22. Great Scott......thats really heavy......the trilogy was on the other night.....usually a good way to spend a wet rainy night.
  23. again, blame me...I have been searching of late for a sliding bridge jack for my other lift.....?
  24. I apologize in advance to any of you folks getting shredded by ads and such as the resort of my liking of British or Porsche cars...!!
