  1. The cap only goes on one way . You will feel when the cap is in the right position .
  2. And make sure that you have a spring on your carb throttle , otherwise it will run wide open .
  3. That looks just like the brass nipple that I soldered onto the drain cock on my oil filter housing . It works well .
  4. If you keep conventional bulbs in the front , you won't need a special flasher . Only if all of the turn signal bulbs are LED . Also a rebuilt motor is tighter and runs hotter .
  5. The LED 6 volt bulbs don't get hot , use less electricity , and are brighter too .
  6. Here are my thoughts ; 210 is too high , test with another gauge as your gauge may be wrong . You can test your thermostat by putting it in a pan of water with a thermometer and heating the water . You can also put a household fan in front of your radiator and see what it does . Allow room in your radiator for the coolant to expand .
  7. Yup , he mentioned that he is now selling it because he now can't use it , as it is too pretty . Not not worthless however as he has several bids .
  8. See ebay eBay item number: 174041515892 I tried to grab a photo but it didn't work . An old Wilton vise that has been smoothed and polished , it looks like chrome .
  9. If you look it over real well with the engine running , you might see that the chug is coming from there .
  10. Charlie at Rust Hope is pretty good at answering questions about his kits , why don't you give him a call or email and ask about differences in the spindles . It sounds like you don't mind going with the 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern that his kit would use . You did read about his products on his web site right ? I can't help with part numbers for the different spindles .
  11. I don't know if it would be any cheaper , but you could look into having your existing cylinders sleeved in stainless or brass . Then the next time that they go bad you could just put in a kit .
  12. It really is a workout . Gotta be a contortionist . I don't do any work on mine at all unless I put on my worst clothes . Just do a 5 minute fix on a squeak and your clothes are ruined . ?
  13. We know that the wood was painted black from the factory , but paint will peel , as will some of the gloss varnishes . I used linseed oil on both sides before installation , most of which just ran off . After a couple of years i gave it another coat of linseed oil that penetrated better . My holes were pre-drilled from Bruce Horkey . My wood is a hardwood , perhaps hickory .
  14. Evidently you need to read the postings here more often . It has been mentioned many times . Same goes for the head bolts and the water pump bolts . Sorry for your trouble .
  15. My lid was leaking like yours . Over the years the lid had become dished down in the center and the clamping center was bottoming out before the lid got tight . A few well placed blows with a hammer got it to seal again .
  16. The spring perch is above the axle .
  17. Here is a photo from the shop manual for 1938 Dodge truck , the 1939 Dodge truck used the same manual but there was a thin supplement book used too . The photo is for the RC model ( 1/2 ton ) and the RD model ( 1 ton ) trucks . The photo looks the same as your photo . Also the manual shows the stepped wheel cylinders with the small piston for the front and the large piston to the rear . If you should decide to order parts for a 1939 Dodge truck , 1/2 ton , that would be model TC .
  18. Someone has had this engine head off before . They changed all of the head bolts to the type that is usually used for the ground cable or throttle linkage . probably that type of head bolt is all that was available to the guy . Just as Plymouthy has mentioned .
  19. It sounds like the stud holes are stripped in the hub . And I don't understand " I can't seem to find an easy way to get the wheel studs out " Don't they just punch out ? Would it help to cut the old studs off and buy new studs ? If the new studs are also too loose in the hub , it might help to weld them in place from the inside . Or find a replacement hub .
  20. Does it come part way out ? On some of the longer blocks you have to turn the crankshaft for clearance .
  21. See if this helps Differential Identification - Dana | RANDYS Worldwide www.randysworldwide.com › differential-identification-dana
  22. A resistor for the 6 volt coil is cheap and a common item .
  23. Also to answer your other question ; Yes the pistons will shoot out if the drum isn't on and you step on the brake pedal .
  24. That is not bad at all , the 1/2 tons are like that . There was a thicker military radiator in my 1/2 ton that DID require removal of the front sheet metal , but that is probably not the case for your friends big truck .
  25. The guys who pave the streets with blacktop .
