I have over 10,000 photos on my 9 year old Imac backed up on a $45.00 hard drive from Walmart (actually two hard external drives just in case ). The computer did crash two years ago, but the back up saved everything. If sized correctly, my pictures upload with no problems. There must be an advantage - what am I missing here? Thanks. On this site and others you are limited to how many photos you can post directly from your computer. In my case I have used 58.93 MB of my 146.48 MB attachment limit on this site. I post a lot of photos here. When I post photos directly linked from Photobucket id does not count against my allotted space on this site. It is possible to delete the photos you post here if you exceed the limit but by using Photobucket I do not have to delete anything and my photos are visible as long as my Photobucket site remains active.
Plymouthy Adams
what you are missing that in the past you could NOT upload from your computer to this site, an online host was REQUIRED, many stuck with the photobucket account since then Edited July 14, 2017 by Plymouthy Adams
ggdad1951
hard drives die...sometimes randomly. Cloud storage gets backed up regularly and is more easily accessed from multiple locations (work PC, home PC, cell, etc).

Postimage.org is free, easy to setup and use (so far) and you can embed photos just like from Photobucket. And, it's not blocked my the firewall at work like Photobucket, Image Shack, or Fliker. curious to see how this works before I move everything over. Gettting images off PB sucks. No limit to files? JBNeal
I have been stewing on this and have decided to wait and see what plays out, maybe PB will make yet another change in the near future that will be less of a sticker shock. Their approach of a multi-tiered subscription plan appears acceptable on its surface, but 400/yr for linking is a non-starter for regular folks who opted-in with a free service...on an unrelated note, I wonder if it's illegal to have a bait and switch scheme with an online user agreement... If I were to make a change to another hosting site, I would just leave the photos on PB and upload from my laptop as I have most everything organized on that hard drive and a backup drive. But considering that I'm on a wireless modem in a rural area, uploading files again will be another time-consuming and tedious process...durn technology... Young Ed
I just found out for those of us that were already paying photobucket we're only good until dec 2018. So it just delays the end for us. I'll be curious to see how this plays out as I pay for a year that auto renews in June. If they are drastically changing my account 1/2 way though I'd expect notice of that. Plymouthy Adams
for those of you who are burning down your account, when I did mine I could not delete by any batch, multi select by check mark or select all feature...each was individual. I am glad I had little there to fuss over. As is often the norm with the bucket also, some deletions were quick..some got a busy response that polled you to wait till operation was completed. Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, auction listings, blog, etc.* The <IMG> function has not worked on this forum with the last forum upgrade. The direct link does work but Photobucket does not say anything about that.

Just get an ISP account. Pair (our ISP host) has packages starting at $5.95 month for 15GB of disk space. Best part is if you contact me via PM I will get you a discount code of 20% and the I will also get a discount back against the monthly site bill. To use you just need to upload your image files via ftp (their are hundred of ftp clients for Windows and Mac) and then you can embed the image URL anywhere you want. TO BE CLEAR this DOES NOT give you the fancy view my files online interface like the other image sites, it just hosts the files and allows access via a web browser. It's bare bones, cheap and a little technical to use at first. Depending upon what you need it might be a great fit. PM if your interested. Maybe I'm not wrapping my brain around this, but the reason I got on PB was because there are file limitations on this site...I had tried to setup directories within this site's photo gallery to show full pictures as attachments had reduced resolution restrictions, but ran into organization problems that my fuzzy memory is having trouble recalling. I am guessing that in order to incorporate some sort of link from this site's photo gallery to forum posts will incur some sort of cost from the host provider...? Plymouthy Adams
got my Photobucket third party hosting discontinued notice today...the blurb went on to say I can get an unlimited third party hosting feature for a fixed rate but did not discuss the price in the message. I have TWO images left on photobucket....maybe a premature burn down of the account but half the time it was so slow it was not worth the bother. At the time I opened the account, many forums did not have the upload feature from your personal computer so to host photo had to be on internet.....the feature is now predominate over all forums I participate, so I see no further need/use for the bucket Edited July 25, 2017 by Plymouthy Adams

HotRodTractor
Photo hosting sucks. Back in the day I had a Webshots account and had a TON of forum links to pics there (other forums). Then they up and changed their whole direction and everything was 100% broken. They did give notice and provide a method of downloading and backing up the entire contents of your space though if you needed it. I then transferred everything over to Photobucket. I had a Photobucket account since 2001??? but I had stopped using somewhere along the line... but it was easy to start right back up again and move forward. But Photobucket has been terrible lately.... It would be awesome if this site allowed the image tags (video tags would be great too!!!). I'm positive this is the only forum I'm on where I can't use them.
Plymouthy Adams
while cruising a forum came upon a photo that had been third party linked from photobucket, the alert I got stated I could pay the third party fee and see these pictures...so, are they then drawing money from both side of the fence? BobT-47P15
Just looked at my Photobucket page......has a thing to click and read about the new changes. They appear to be picking on the free accounts the most. Leaving alone the paid accounts until Dec 31, 2018. They also tell you how to download pictures to save to your own computer. Will read it in more detail. Ahhh.....found that they now will offer three different paid plans.....the Plus 50 for $5.99 per month for storage but NO linking or 3rd party hosting. The Plus 100 plan for $9.99 per month which offers linking but not 3rd party hosting. 3rd party hosting is where you can embed or place a picture on another site like a forum. The Plus 500 plan is $39.99 per month for unlimited linking and 3rd party hosting. The company claims their income has decreased due to ad blocking by individuals and other things that lessen ad income plus tons of 3rd party hosting.
