Dodgeb4ya Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 A person that I got to know new I was looking for one of these 413 flatheads and he heard of one for sale out of a 1954 Dodge 4 tonner, told me about it and here it is delived today! Supposed to be a runner too. These engines are one of the rarest of all Mopar truck engines as the trucks they came in are really low production 1953-1956. Repair parts other than gaskets and fuel system parts don't exist. I have always been on the hunt for this big bore/long stroke unusual engine. 30+ years later I have a back up for big red-my 1953 4 tonner. I'm really happy tonight! Bob 3 Quote

NiftyFifty Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 That puppy would be cool on a rear engine truck.... Only place that thing would likely fit is a 9' box Very cool find, congrats Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Whats the doohickey with the big pulley up topside? Quote

austinsailor Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 I've been looking for one also. Found a couple, but none that anyone would sell. You lucky dog, you! Quote
greg g Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Wonder if that was set up for a triple carb at one time. The intake looks tinkered with. Saw one a few years back in a truck with a grain box on it was a K series chassis. When I was a kid the local VFD had a K pumper truck. Good place to start building a speedster............ 1 Quote
RobertKB Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Cool engine and glad you found it. I have heard of these and know they are rare. Got a picture of your 4 tonner? Quote

The carbs are the correct Carter E9G1's. Manifolds are correct and factory stock too. The "Handy" governers were removed though and a couple carb linkage rods have been replaced with aftermarket incorrect rods. I have the correct ones. These engines- never were triple carburation. I am going to run it to see how it sounds and runs initially. But first I do have to fix some damaged tin-oil pan, FP heat shield, go through the carbs ect do some inspecting. Quote
cavisco1 Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 What are the dimensions? Looks to be about twice the size of a 230 Quote
austinsailor Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) 30" head. 7 main bearings. I have 2 331ci versions. Pretty big beast. My 331's have a nice throaty rumble, I can't imagine what a 413 would sound like. Add some compression and a cam...... Edited January 11, 2015 by austinsailor Quote

RobertKB Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Thanks, looks great. So I assume that has a 413 in it? What were the 331's used in? Is it the same block as a 413? I have heard of and am more familiar with the 331 and the 413 is an eye-opener for me. Quote
austinsailor Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Mine were in my 47 WKA 3 ton, I think the other was about a '53 3 ton. Saw the truck when I bought the motor, he had put a Cummins in it in the backwoods of northern Wisconson. Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 It is my understanding these big truck engines are 12 port engines. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted January 11, 2015 Author Report Posted January 11, 2015 I have bought several of these big tonnage trucks and a 60 passenger bus. Displacements are 281, 306, 331, 377 and the 413. My red one is a nice rust free truck I've had since 1984.The other trucks I bought over the years just to save them from the crusher. I got all of them running just to keep the engines running and of value. Quote
HanksB3B Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 That's one heck of a beautiful truck! Hank Quote
