HughForrest
You didn't ask, but (respectfully) I think it is worth the effort to rehab the original gauges. It is very jarring to the eye when I look in an old car and see modern gauges/dash panel. To me those are a big part of what makes an old car attractive. pflaming
Ah so, maybe some rodent burned my shop down. Hadn't thought of that. Maybe one of those dilla's I got from GA. !!
Plymouthy Adams
modern gauges are nice if tastefully one...I see no harm in their installation...and for the most part a retro like the one pictured should not destroy the dash to a point that going back stock later would be a problem...modern speedo are very nice as you can dial them in quickly with a GPS on board regardless of tire size and axle ratio...I give the job a thumbs up... Young Ed
I appreciate your comments Hugh. I have not yet decided what side of the fence my money will fall on. If you take the cluster apart and clean everything, repaint the inside surfaces, and then install new bulbs(which you might already have) you can get it much better. Mine is quite readable and I only have 6v electrics
steveplym
Those new gauges are kind of neat. I've got classic instrument gauges in my Dodge and like them a lot. When I converted to 12 volt in my Plymouth, I put all new bulbs in and I haven't had a problem with dimness. It is always super bright. Could your old wiring have maybe had something to do with the dimness of the cluster?
Mark Haymond
New wiring, new 12 volt bulbs. Should be a bright instrument cluster. Edited August 7, 2014 by Mark Haymond
Don Coatney
I dropped the hammer today and ordered the pictured dash cluster. I did not buy it now on the bay. I went directly to the company website to place the order. Cost was about the same as eBay but shipping was included so it was cheaper to buy direct. I pondered a long time before I elected to go this route. Benefits are no hot oil plumbed under the dash, no high tension wires to the amp gauge as the cluster has a volt meter, a modern fuel gauge, electric temperature gauge, etc. Supposed to be a bolt up and wire up deal so time will tell.

BobT-47P15
Stuff is looking good there, Don. As you say.....the line seems to always be shifting. Will the gas sending unit include a new float, or just connect to your original float?

She actually did that a year or so ago. Marty
Dave72dt
That record breaking run was done at Alvord in Oregon and I think she got a podium finish at King of the Hammers this year, an off road race that's as brutal on equipment and drivers as anything I've seen.
