JIPJOBXX Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 While out and about today I bought a bottle of Slick 50 because it was on sale and had a 10 dollar rebait. At that time I was with a friend and he stated that it increased his gas miliage and increased his RPM while at idle. Just wondering if I should use this stuff in my old six? My engine has about 3,000 miles on it if that? Thanks:cool: Quote
claybill Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 yes. i have used it on a bunch of cars. better idle, a mile or so increase. one time i drove 50 miles with low oil..didnt know it til i got home. thank you slick 50. i wish it was cheaper. cant see it doing any harm. bill Quote
chopt50wgn Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 I used some back in the day when it first came out. Now I use Lucas oil stabilizer with every oil change. Just add one of them to the oil instead of 1 qt. oil. It's also cheaper then slick 50 Quote
james curl Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 I have read all of FAA's test on air cooled Aircraft engines and they all agree with the study that Greg linked to his last post. Quote
Tom Skinner Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Are those real diamonds? Whew, I'm sure glad they are, I was worried for a moment. I use ZDDP additive in my flathead at oilchange time, and a little marvel mystery oil in the gas tank at fill-up. It runs as quiet as can be. Tom Quote

No water-wetter & water pump lubricant additive to your cooling system? Epsom salt for your battery? You're not trying hard enough to spend money and damage your car.... Quote

Tom Skinner Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Actually, I have googled ethanol free fuel stations in my zip code area and buy ethanol free fuel now. I really do get better gas milage and have a more responsive gas pedal on all my vehicles. That does make a real difference even if the ZDDP and Marvel Mystery Oil is or maybe a figment of my imagination. Tom Quote
greg g Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 acetone in the gas will mitigate the negative effect of ethanol. I swear its true. Quote

Merle Coggins Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 acetone in the gas will mitigate the negative effect of ethanol. I swear its true. I've heard that one too, and actually tried it, but saw no positive effects from it. Merle Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted April 13, 2012 Author Report Posted April 13, 2012 Think I will try it in my tired out 1988 Dodge Dakota and see if it helps. My old truck reminds me of my first Model A's as it cannot get out of its own way! Really a sick puppy-Jon Quote

Hate to burst your bubble but mechanics do not come in a can. Go ahead and spend the money if it makes you feel good. Best ask your wife before you do so:rolleyes: Quote
plyroadking Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 We were discussing ethanol additives in a diesel power class last semester and the instructor said that you can add water to a bucket of fuel and the ethanol molecules will separate from the fuel and bond to the water. You can the drain the mixture out and have pure fuel. Never tried it because with what they charge for tuition ill believe anything they tell me. Also as long as the ethanol fuel is only 10¢ a gallon cheaper ill just pay the extra for non-ethanol. Quote
