greg g Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Looks familiar but then again not. Any ideas out there?? Quote
garbagestate 44 Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 It could be a packard 8. They mostly had studs and nuts for the head instead of bolts. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 That little dashboard with gauges might be a clue.....I can't place it, except maybe Pontiac. Quote
dezeldoc Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Who cares, That little brunette in the foreground is a Cutie !! Man good looks and can turn a wrench to boot, what more could you ask for! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Here's a Pontiac straight 8 of about the same vintage........ Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Who cares, That little brunette in the foreground is a Cutie !! Man good looks and can turn a wrench to boot, what more could you ask for! Man I thought more of you than that..gave you too much credit..she is holding a screwdriver and not a wrench... Quote
1940plymouth Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 yupper it is a Pontiac, the dash board is basically the same as the '48 Pontiac we had last Fall Quote
greg g Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 Look at the angle of the spark plug being wielded by the blonde. I'm thinking there is a new AC plug in her near future Quote
desoto1939 Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Look at the angle of the spark plug being wielded by the blonde. I'm thinking there is a new AC plug in her near future If you look at the radiator behind the first girl you will see what looks like a Plymouth hood ornament. I would date this picture around 1936/37. If you look at the shocks in the first picture these were used in the mid 30's a back and the airplane were used in the late thirties. Any girl that can turn a wrench is always welcomed in my garage. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Young Ed Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 I wonder if it was some sort of training class. The first engine doesn't look mopar to me. Rich is right though the grill shell in the background clearly has a plymouth ship on it. Further back behind that there looks to be 3 more people sitting in chairs. Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Definitely a training class. The engine in the foreground has a cut away water pump, intake and exhaust manifold, generator and side of block. I'm guessing this was early to mid 40's ,the engines are mid to late 30's, and isn't that Rosie the Riveter with the plug wrench ? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 is that Virgil Exner's fedora on the crate? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Did you notice that on the cutaway places, someone had taken the time to paint the edges white, along with the fact the entire engine looks to be a light grey color. Quote
dezeldoc Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 Man I thought more of you than that..gave you too much credit..she is holding a screwdriver and not a wrench... Man now i am screwed! Quote
B-Watson Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 1941 or 1942 Pontiac. The 1946-48 Pontiac used the same style of speedometer but the gauges were round. 1940 also used the same basic layout but the speedometer was different. That speedo with the numerals in separate ring around the edge is the tip off to the make. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Teaching the ladies to be mechanics while the men-folk were off to war. That geeky intructor may be a "lucky" 4F and the potential "Jody" oft referred to in military cadences the vets may remember Seems to be a multi - discipline school, GM, Mopar, and what looks like an aircraft trailer in the shadows.
