It is very enjoyable to follow someones build and relive some of the same moments. I do like the blue as well. You'll need to put a placard on it, "better than new".

Great looking truck, here's to many trouble free miles

Hank,  Is it possible I seen that truck in a Menards store in Wisconsin about a year ago???

I've been busy making patches and putting them in. I basically had to reconstruct the lower half of one of the stake pockets. It came out ok. I'll be able to work with it, but its not perfect. My welding skills are getting a lot better though. I now have 95% of the metal work done on the worst bed side. I put the new angle strip on too. All thats left is to grind all the plug welds for the angle strip. Its getting' there. Hopefully tomorrow I will start the other side. My metal working skills are not very good, I don't have much experience doing this, so I have learned a lot by this. Lots of trial and error when putting some patches in but I got it.

I came in from working on the truck tonight and my dad was watching the twilight zone. I looked at the t.v. and there was a pilothouse looking square at me. Kinda cool to come in from working on one to enjoy a few seconds of one on t.v. I had to laugh, cause the character jumped over the bed to get to a guy on the other side of the truck, and that bed looked as dented as mine when I started. The truck must have been over 10 years old at the time and was still looking pretty good. Here's the episode, the truck is around 20 minutes into it.

As far as the truck, I have the metal work on one bed side done. I got it cleaned up and worked the dents out as best as I could get them, and I put a light coat of filler over the bad areas. One day at a time...

My compliments to your dad (light blue coat in the picture below). He not only has good taste in cars but also good taste in TV selections..

It's been a while since I updated my progress so I think its time I give one! I graduated from college and I am working full time now. With a lot of other things going on I haven't hardly been able to get in the garage. I am really set on getting the truck done for the spring, and there is no way I will be able to finish the bed in time. With that said, there is one advantage to having a decent job, and that's the paychecks! After doing some searching, and having shop after shop tell me they won't touch my truck bed, I finally found a small shop very close to my house that I really never paid attention to in the past. They are more than willing to pick up were I left off and finish the bed sides and not drain my pockets in the process. It looks like the body work will be pretty much done as soon as I get the panels over there. For Christmas, I got the the interior for the truck, so thats checked off the list. I am also expecting the grill to be sent back to me after having it restored. If everything goes like I'm hoping, the truck should finally be done in a few months.

On a side note, I saw this nice looking panel truck on the internet today and thought it was pretty cool. Maybe its been posted before but I've never seen it.

If one found an old panel that needed WORK, the last 2/3's of the top could be removed, put a back in the cab and have a US UK truck. I think the panels all had bed floors so . . .

Joe, that you in the black jacket?

Nice Panel wagon. .

With some work I suppose you could make a panel into a ute. You would have to come up with a tailgate and back of cab like you said. And yeah, that's me in the black jacket.

Thanks for the photo Joe - works well as a new computer wallpaper for me! I wish that I could find a nice van to do up here in Oz as my Suburban is too far gone to bring back to life.

I look forward to seeing that truck of yours on the road soon.

I wouldn't mind a panel truck either, I think I like them better than the trucks due to the fact you don't see them as often.

Thanks Tim! It wasn't easy but it was worth all the effort. I was pretty nervous about finding a job but I got lucky!

Congrats Joe, what'd you do for work? If you dont mind me asking.

I have a Civil Engineering degree and I got a job as an equipment manager (more of a mechanical job) for E.S. Wagner Co. which is mainly a heavy roadway construction company. We are one of the largest in the nation. I was working part time for them as a shop mechanic during my last few semesters of school and they liked my mechanical abilities, so they thought I would work out well as an equipment manager. I'm very happy that I found a job that has a Civil and Mechanical side to it.  Heres our website:

Congrats Joe!

Thanks Mark!

Super cool joe congrats on that job. It sounds like it's a pretty solid position, hopefully you continue to enjoy it. I have a mechanical engineering degree but I work in the hydrogen/oxygen fuel cell industry. Glad to meet a fellow engineer on here.
